So sorry to hear about his nails. We had a standard schnauzer who had multiple health problems especially fungal ears. We coped with good vets and medication but it breaks your heart to see them unwell. I hope things get better soon.

My boy Winston has had this Lupoid disease. His toenails fell off as well as swollen feet unable to walk. We soaked, cleaned, had nails trimmed. But one vet, before retiring, found out what it was, or else he’d been put to sleep. He was put on Pentoxiphyline, Niacinamide, and Doxycycline, daily for the last seven years. He grew a couple weird tonails, but didn’t fall off. He had several big lumps removed, he was fine. I was so thankful for his recovery. He is nearly fifteen, has congestive heart failure, and will not be here long. Refuses meds now, etc. he’s led a good life after the meds and right care. I hope you are able to treat your pup successfully. 😊

Dear Kim, you do the best you can with the information you have. Miggy will be fine, he won't miss the toe. You miss the toe, and you don't need to because it doesn't adversely affect his life. When you think of the weather, storms come and go, with good weather in between. Well, life is like that. We have difficult times and in between we have wonderful times. When we're young it seems like everyday is good. However, as we age, have illness, lose loved ones, take on responsibility, etc., the storms of life come more frequently and it seems the good times become more rare. It's why we cherish our family and those good times. I hope these words encourage you and help you gain some perspective. I'm so sorry that MIggy has this illness, but I'm thankful it's not contagious. I'm thankful it's manageable, Miggy can recover and still have a happy life. Kim, Keep an upbeat and positive spirit. This positive will transfer to Miggy and he will respond. The first few weeks will be hard, but Miggy is the one that can handle it. Just wrap his feet or by him some of those little boots they have for the weather and see if he can’t play in them. God will show you the way. Praying for you Miggy.

I dealt with it for 13 years. Was on both meds you mentioned and also the fish oil. I got it off Amazon made for dogs. Also was on a BP medication that helped to but I don’t remember the name it was half a pill daily. Doo little took it all his life. My Doolittle was a mini schnauzer. Good luck. Doolittle would lick them off and other times they would just fall off. Just to let you know all his nails fell off and never grew back. But Doolittle played ball like Miggy. Prayers and good luck.
Poor guy. I'm sorry, Kim. Don't second guess yourself, though. You did what you felt was best with the info you had at the time, PLUS toe cancer isn't uncommon in schnauzers, so the path you took was what was best at that time. And.... I sit in front of stores to decompress, too.😊

Hope that fish oil works well. I ended up getting Nutramax Welactin with Omega 3s and it has been great for my 2. One is a mini schnauzer so I cut them in half for him with a knife and cutting board to start the cut since they are a little hard to pull apart. Every dog is different, as I have learned too! Just in case this helps 💕
I have a 16 year old miniature schnauzer. She is getting a plant based diet and loves it. I bought and read the book "The Plant-Powered Dog" by Diana Laverdure-Dunetz, MS and W. Jean Dodds, DMV. I've been making her food since 2022. I do also give her kibble from a commercial brand, completely vegetarian, a little with each dish of plant exclusive food she gets. I am also whole food plant exclusive in my eating too.
@@Anon_E_Muss I get that question a lot. Humans and dogs get plenty of protein in many foods they eat. For example, do you know how much protein in in pumpkin? Beans? Oats? Chia or flax seeds? Plug data into Chronometer or similar app and you'll see that many plant foods have protein.
@@createwithconfidence8094 yes but dogs need more protein from meat than humans. I use chronometer for my own macro tracking to ensure I get enough nutrients.

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry. Last thing you needed. Seems extra over whelming because you have had so much hit you all at once. I am praying that since Omega 3 oil is a "good" fat it won't cause pancreatitis, but I can definitely understand your concern and taking it slow is never a bad idea. Trying to take care of fur babies is extra challenging because they can't talk and tell us what is happening. And please don't feel your videos are downers. Life happens, especially as they age. I know I have gleaned such helpful information from your videos and I'm sure others have as well. Take care of you too. Scented epsom salt baths help me when I need to de-stress. We use the Welactin omega3 for dogs we've gotten it at the vet and chewy i think. Also maybe some doggie boots would work (if he'll wear them) to run around play etc protect his feet and nails. I know i've seen those different pet places & online.
Hi Kim I am so sorry to hear about Miggy and his condition. I know exactly how stressful it is especially when you are so attached like I am with my fur babies. Thank God it is nothing terminal but I can tell after dealing with this for so long it is getting you down and him. I have one of my doxie fur babies that is crazy about balls as Miggy is. I was just wondering what would I do if this happened to her. Just thinking......maybe if you get him a PLUSH toy something specific for outdoor use (Maybe couple so you can wash in between) and give that toy a name to make it special. Instead of kicking it just barely toss it to him so he can bring it back it will fulfill his need to want to play fetch. He is active like my Molly so giving him something specific outside to play with and have in his mouth may help with the need to want to run after a ball and injure himself. Also just friendly help not sure if you ever tried the soft collars or not it looks like Miggy may need to be in a collar for while off and on depending on his situation. My dogs did extremely well with the Bencmate collar because they are still able to especially drink when they want to because with his meds he may get more thirsty. I hope some of these suggestions help. You are an amazing fur baby mommy and they are truly blessed to have you! God bless each and every one of you. Keep us updated my friend......
Hopefully he will be back playing ball soon. Going thru some issues my 11 year old also Milo. He bumped his nose a while ago and the vet said for Bleeding to give him chinese herb called Yunan Baiyao for bleeding. It worked and the bleeding stopped. I still continue to give to him because he has a splenetic tumor on his spleen. Totally understand the health issues.
No second guessing allowed. You don't have a crystal ball do you? We do what seems right at the moment, and if circumstances change, you make decisions for those circumstances. What if you had left the toe and the diagnosis had come back as cancer? You did not make a mistake, Kim. Now to get those new nails growing in healthy, so Miggy can play ball!!

I dealt with it for 13 years. Was on both meds you mentioned and also the fish oil. I got it off Amazon made for dogs. Also was on a BP medication that helped to but I don’t remember the name it was half a pill daily. Doo little took it all his life. My Doolittle was a mini schnauzer. Good luck. Doolittle would lick them off and other times they would just fall off. Just to let you know all his nails fell off and never grew back. But Doolittle played ball like Miggy. Prayers and good luck.

Poor guy. I'm sorry, Kim. Don't second guess yourself, though. You did what you felt was best with the info you had at the time, PLUS toe cancer isn't uncommon in schnauzers, so the path you took was what was best at that time. And.... I sit in front of stores to decompress, too.😊

Hope that fish oil works well. I ended up getting Nutramax Welactin with Omega 3s and it has been great for my 2. One is a mini schnauzer so I cut them in half for him with a knife and cutting board to start the cut since they are a little hard to pull apart. Every dog is different, as I have learned too! Just in case this helps 💕

I have a 16 year old miniature schnauzer. She is getting a plant based diet and loves it. I bought and read the book "The Plant-Powered Dog" by Diana Laverdure-Dunetz, MS and W. Jean Dodds, DMV. I've been making her food since 2022. I do also give her kibble from a commercial brand, completely vegetarian, a little with each dish of plant exclusive food she gets. I am also whole food plant exclusive in my eating too.
How do you ensure your dog is getting enough protein? I would be very leery of not feeding a dog some meat and organs as a diet staple....
@@Anon_E_Muss I get that question a lot. Humans and dogs get plenty of protein in many foods they eat. For example, do you know how much protein in in pumpkin? Beans? Oats? Chia or flax seeds? Plug data into Chronometer or similar app and you'll see that many plant foods have protein.
@@createwithconfidence8094 yes but dogs need more protein from meat than humans. I use chronometer for my own macro tracking to ensure I get enough nutrients.

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry. Last thing you needed. Seems extra over whelming because you have had so much hit you all at once. I am praying that since Omega 3 oil is a "good" fat it won't cause pancreatitis, but I can definitely understand your concern and taking it slow is never a bad idea. Trying to take care of fur babies is extra challenging because they can't talk and tell us what is happening. And please don't feel your videos are downers. Life happens, especially as they age. I know I have gleaned such helpful information from your videos and I'm sure others have as well. Take care of you too. Scented epsom salt baths help me when I need to de-stress. Sending love, hugs, and prayers.

We use the Welactin omega3 for dogs we've gotten it at the vet and chewy i think. Also maybe some doggie boots would work (if he'll wear them) to run around play etc protect his feet and nails. I know i've seen those different pet places & online.

Hi Kim I am so sorry to hear about Miggy and his condition. I know exactly how stressful it is especially when you are so attached like I am with my fur babies. Thank God it is nothing terminal but I can tell after dealing with this for so long it is getting you down and him. I have one of my doxie fur babies that is crazy about balls as Miggy is. I was just wondering what would I do if this happened to her. Just thinking......maybe if you get him a PLUSH toy something specific for outdoor use (Maybe couple so you can wash in between) and give that toy a name to make it special. Instead of kicking it just barely toss it to him so he can bring it back it will fulfill his need to want to play fetch. He is active like my Molly so giving him something specific outside to play with and have in his mouth may help with the need to want to run after a ball and injure himself. Also just friendly help not sure if you ever tried the soft collars or not it looks like Miggy may need to be in a collar for while off and on depending on his situation. My dogs did extremely well with the Bencmate collar because they are still able to especially drink when they want to because with his meds he may get more thirsty. I hope some of these suggestions help. You are an amazing fur baby mommy and they are truly blessed to have you! God bless each and every one of you. Keep us updated my friend......

Hopefully he will be back playing ball soon. Going thru some issues my 11 year old also Milo. He bumped his nose a while ago and the vet said for Bleeding to give him chinese herb called Yunan Baiyao for bleeding. It worked and the bleeding stopped. I still continue to give to him because he has a splenetic tumor on his spleen. Totally understand the health issues.
So sorry. But the boys have THE BEST mom❤

Yes I keep the foot that’s affected now wrapped but the problem is when the nails start lifting it’s painful to play.

What if you had left the toe and the diagnosis had come back as cancer? You did not make a mistake, Kim. Now to get those new nails growing in healthy, so Miggy can play ball!!
