- A lot of my frustration/swearing in this run came from the fact that my chain fell off a few more times (chain guide was a little damaged) I managed to pedal it and crunch it back on those times luckily. I'm not frustrated by the other riders more so the predicament!
2021 Megavalanche final run.
Was so keen for this race and learned some things to apply next year!
Got away without any actual crashing on the glacier but got a bit tangled in other peoples crashes which resulted in my chain coming off fully at the front and wedging at the back between cassette and frame and in the derailleur! Luckily it was fixable. Started again in 57th place and worked forward to a top 10 finish..

At this point, I watched like over 20 Mega and Maxi races, but this video is one of the most exciting ones! Congrats! That's a proud 9th 👏
What I really liked about this is in search for the slop and other 'edits' everyones super chill and laid back but then it comes to racing and we see the raw emotion. I think a lot of riders are a bit shy to show that on their social media when really if you're a racer and someone takes you out or your bike lets you down, it bloody sucks and its okay to say effin hell! Great ride dude
Thanks! Haha yeh the laidback spirits definitely go out the window when competition is involved., particularly this one with how stressful/intense the time is leading up to the start and then the first section too! Hopefully this year I'll be smooth and swear free haha!

I was searching for your run since i watched you passed the 10th 33rd and 44th place racers in their videos. In their videos show how you got in the first jam in the other shows you fixing the chain and the last video, flying by the 10th place. You are a great rider. Good luck next year

Brutal seeing everyone slam into you right at the start! Some effort to claw it back to 10th after having to stop and get the chain back on!

Man, that was painful watching all those people pass by while he fiddled with the chain. Props to Papa Moyn though, that course is crazy and at points the penalty for failure would be a trip to the hospital... if you're lucky.
Amazing, such determination. Tightest possible inside line at the first corner is what I would aim for.
Yeh I think that could be the move! Issue is its really off camber super inside and the snow is a bit different every year/ sometimes icy and unpredicatble. Turned out it was decent this year so could corner on the off camber. My plan was to get turned and across but by then was carnage. Just need to make a massive effort to be first at the first turn in future haha!
Truth is, if he’d made the most of the front row start he could have avoided the mess at the top and sailed down no swearing, chain on etc
Yeah definitely 'you make your own luck' here. Then moans that slower riders are in the way
@@Bally46 Never once moaned that they were 'in the way' Also never mentioned anything to do with luck. Fact is i set up for the first corner to actually get round it and was in the top ten getting there, some years the first few go in too fast and crash on the ice. This year it was people behind me who went too fast and crashed into me, it's all part of the race and funnily enough I understand that it's very difficult to get a clean run.
At the end of the day though there is an element of running the gauntlet or luck or whatever you want to call it with 400 odd folk on the start line of a steep ski piste into tight first corner.

yelling at others to go faster is a waste of your own energy. Everyone's going as fast as they are able.
Once you got some open trail, you were definitely moving. Follow Killian Bron through the first turn, he seems to have the tactics sorted. You get through that you may win this thing. Some of your speed here is the fastest I've seen.

Haha The Mexican was a definitely work of Beauty to be fair! Will have another Search for the slop series later this year which will hopefully incorporate some comical themes.... and the Mexican!
The overtake on 20!!! Amazing! If it wouldn't be for that crash you may have won the race.
Absolutely no doubt. The guys who finished in the top four all managed to avoid the crash. If he'd missed the crash this guy clearly would have been top three or four.

Amazing skill that would’ve podiumed you at least and also smart pacing on the key climbs. I cringed so many times for many passes. Staying calm and positive is so hard full of intense adrenaline when things go sideways!

It seems half the battle is avoiding the initial pile up. You could have had a top 5 finish. Coming back from 57th was more impressive. I enjoyed watching you take creative lines to pass, much like Kilian.
One request: Could you please angle your camera about 15 degrees upward? I'd love to see the horizon and scenery as you fly.

Yeh I've studied the different options for the snow to avoid the initial carnage, I ran out super wide on the left in the hopes of then crossing back under but maybe full inside is the job... The camera was mounted onto my visor which was partly broken in the snow crash and ruined the angle too sadly!

Cheers! It's 2600m / 8500 feet difference in height between top and bottom, plus a few climbs on track too so I guess total descending close to 9000 feet. Nice big one!

Very impressive. How were you viewed by competitors 2021 before this race? Did they consider you one of the favourites?
I've won my qualifying heat a good number of times and had been top 10 overall several times before. So maybe not a favourite to win but definitely for top 5/10.
Hopefully after 2nd place this year I can get to a win in future!

Camera angle was too low... too much front wheel vision and enough view in front and ahead.
Aye the helmet peak(visor) got partly detached in the first turn mess. As the rules are that camera must be mounted on peak it meant the camera was pointing lower than it should

Great run, very annoying camera angle :-(
Yeh the camera angle was slightly unfortunate. It was mounted to the peak/visor (because it has to be there for uci races) and one of the peak attachments got knocked out in the first turn pile up so the whole peak was sagging a bit lower meaning camera was a bit low too (also explains the squeeky noise as the peak waggles about)

I started pretty much right in the middle. I had 4th starting pick from seeding races. First pick started immediately to my right and 2nd and 3rd both to my left. Eventual winner also started left of me. On the right the start is flat for a bit before going down so is slower to get going and the first corner is off camber on right. Just happened that everyone from the right smashed into everyone on left haha! What really sucks is starting on the further back rows, guaranteed carange then!

Mostly fell behind as my chain fell off and I care about what I’m doing so there’s going to be a bit of passion involved! Try finding something you like and want to do well at then see if you experience frustration when it doesn’t go to plan. I’d be willing to bet you do!
The camera angle shows far too much of what is in front of you. We don't care about where the path goes or the opponents you overtake. We're far more interested in looking at your feet.
I've never seen an experienced rider; struggle that much to put a chain back on or swear and bitch the amout you do. congrats on 9th place, please work on sportsmanship
The chain was wedged between the frame& cassette also behind the chain guide from the impact so it wasn't a simple chain back on. Swearing is from frustration at a race going pear shaped, absolutely nothing to do with sportsmanship.
I can understand it if it's a timed run but with so many ppl around.. I'd find it very unpleasant and even distracting to hear someone's "frustrations" behind me. Not taking other athletes into consideration is pretty unsportsmanlike. That sucks about your chain.
You were very rude and very despotic, you don't deserve many of those passes.

Don't remember getting angry if someone fell... but yeh I'm a bit frustrated and shout for warning as I pass etc. Remember the camera is about 10cm from my mouth and other riders are several meters away so the shouts sound loud and the other stuff you hear is muttering to myself. Either way if youve ever watched or taken part in any sport, you'd see that I didn't actually do anything unsporting but cheers for the feedback all the same
He's complaining that everybody around him is slow when it was him that caused the crash when he hit the snow wall and his chain came off no pleasing people from Scotland
