fantastic tutorial. got great results on my first try following your method!
Very happy to hear that!!🙌💪
I’ve been trying to weather my kits for a bit, but this method is incredibly simple and effective. Did some testers on my sacrificial HG and it looks great.
Thanks for this, it's a great middle ground between results and effort!
Thanks so much for watching!
Love that you used a gundam from Stardust Memory. And you used the music from that show too! Stardust is one of my favorite gundam shows.
Cool vid. Simple and to the point. Very helpful. Thanks dude!
Super stoked to read this. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Amazing tutorial man!! ❤️ thank you!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Keep doing it bro, u are great🙏
Thank you so much for tuning in!!
thanks i saw your video now im inspired :D
Awesome tutorial
thank you!!
Great video your awesome!
Thank you!
Great video man! Would you also recommend the Mr Weathering Color washes?
I haven't used those yet so I cant speak on em yet, I will try to hunt some down though and hopefully do a review in the future!
Hey hello!
What is the model of the Gundam do you have in the final of the video? I what do buy one for my collection.
Really cool tips man very helpful, great video.
Keep up
Hello Ruben! Thanks so much for watching this video! The model used in this video is the Real Grade GP01 Zephyranthes. I got mine from USAGundam but Amazon has them as well. Happy building my friend!
thank you for making this tutorial gonna try this on my unicorn kit and make a timelapse video
thanks for watching!
These look great! Are you varnishing the plastic before adding the oil stain or just straight onto bare plastic?
Yes varnish with Matte topcoat before and after applying weathering mater
Question: Do you weather first, or top coat first?
before use weathering ,do you have repaint first?
Do you topcoat then weather or kust weather straight on to plastic then topcoat?
Great tutorial; thanks for sharing! 🙂 A few questions-
Are you applying the weathering to bare plastic, or were the white parts painted first?
Does the Tamiya weathering kit work on both acrylic and enamel paints?
Finally, do you use any top-coat to seal your weathering, and if so, what type?
Matte coated first.
Yes as far as I know
Yes I use mr hobby acrylic matte
What other brushes are good to wipe away excess besides the one that comes with the weather kit?
For wiping away excess if you dont have the one in the kit I would just use a clean, unused paint brush. Or maybe a q tip.
thanks for this video! Simple and straight to the point. Does the weathering come off even with top coat?
Thanks so much for watching! Nope as long as you matte coat before and after it will be there permanently unless wiped off with rubbing alcohol or scratched off.
On my last build I was trying to save on money so I didn’t do the final topcoat, we shall see how it holds up but so far so good.
@@zeroshobbies Hey thanks for the quick reply! OK good to know, do I have to do the first layer of matte coat? Or can I get away with not doing it and only doing a final matte coat? Also keep me updated on your last build!
@@zeroshobbies One more thing could you make a tutorial video on how to matte coat properly?
Question, what if I want to do this with dark colored and metallic plastic? I want to add rust to gunmetal and silver parts
Can you use any other tools besides those applicators you have? Also really nice tutorial and plan on getting my hands on the weathering master
Possibly a hobby or craft sponge ?
looks badass
Thank you for watching!
What model you working? 1/144? Or the 1/100?
do you go with rust and blue for the blue parts? Awesome video!!!
Thank you! The blue parts I used mostly oil stain with a touch of the rust.
How was the first part weathering done ?
Nice vid. New to weathering here.... Just a quick question, after weathering, do we need to do anything else like maybe another topcoat or that's the finish line already after weathering?
Yes do another layer of matte topcoat to seal everything in after you’re done weathering
thank you
Thank you!
Did you spray a layer of matte coat before weathering? Looks great!
Yes! Sorry I should have clarified this- spray a layer before so the powder will stick, and then spray one more thin layer after to make sure it stays there. I like to use Mr Hobby Topcoat.
@@zeroshobbies hey i have a question do you use a primer and if you do use can you tell me what kind of primer do you use? Thanks.
Great video. Would satin (between matte and gloss) top coat work as a base for these tamiya pigments or does it have to be matte?
Thats a good question! I think it depends on the brand bc some satins have more grit than others. I would prob go matte just to be safe.
Great video! I'm new to the hobby, and have a question about weathering/line: Do you apply the line work after a top coat? Do you use a flat matte coat before any of the weathering/line work? Also what do you use for panel lines? Thanks!
Thanks for checking out my video! I do all my line work first thing while the part is still on the runner. I use flat coat before and after applying weathering. And I use tamiya panel liner and Gundam markers for panel lining, they both have their strengths in certain applications.
@@zeroshobbies So your saying the line work is put directly on before anything else? Before any top coat? Or after the first layer of top coat? For example: Step 1 Spray top coat. Step 2 panel lines. Step 3 Weathering. Step 4 Last layer of top coat. Also is the top coat a matt finish?
@@Cheers_Mcgee he wrote he does the panel line 1st while its still on the frames/runners, then he spray it before weathering and spray again after weathering. It also depends on your own liking too
What a great way to achieve pre-shading. Say, what clearcoat did you use for the pigments to adhere to the model? I'm customizing a Transformer and I want to try this for myself. Also, how well does it stay on AFTER the final clear coat? Does it rub off?
you want an acrylic matte coat, so far the only ones i know of are mr hobby topcoat (blue can), or mr army painter. i have better results with mr hobby. even on an unpainted kit, it helps to secure the decals and weathering.
that being said i do 2 matte coats- one after decals to get a surface for weathering, and another when im finished weathering to secure everything.
@@zeroshobbies is it more of a "can" or "need" with both acrylic and matte? Getting mr hobby super clear which is lacquer based also didn't know you could seal off the weathering with top coat
@@epistarter1136 you need acrylic, usually it’s in the blue or teal can. In my experience laquer based topcoat will eat your decals.
Thanks for teaching us how to use the gosh damn Tamiya weathering kits on our fucking Gunpla kits
haha you are very welcome my friend! thanks so much for watching!!
What kit is this i wanna get it, and thanks for the tutorial you've got yourself a like and sub my guy
RG gp01 and thank you!🙌
@Zeros Hobbies thank you so much guy ❤️
After your first topcoat, can you dig in straight away or do you need to wait then weather it.
as long as your topcoat is dry your good to go
Edit: After reading and watching other resources, my only question left is if the initial topcoat is applied while still on the runners after the liner?
So, my questions are, you have all the decals on, so this is done after decals, and then, have you set all the parts aside for weathering BEFORE construction? Can this be done when the kit is already constructed? And, do you use a spray of topcoat on the Mobile Suit BEFORE or AFTER weathering?
Btw I have done hundreds of high grades with no liner or weathering, and I have bought this exact Real Grade GP01 kit in this video to try and move to the next level, as well as this exact Tamiya Weathering Master D kit. I just dont know the proper steps.
Sorry I’m just seeing this now, here’s my process: build frame, dry brush with gunmetal x11, put on all armor, separate kit into limbs, head, backpack, and weapons, apply all decals, as you finish each section attach it to alligator clips, apply first layer of acrylic matte topcoat, do weathering, final topcoat, assemble sections into final mech.
Holler with any questions I hope this helps 🙌
You can do the topcoat while it’s constructed but you’ll risk the topcoat not hitting parts hidden by the skirts. I guess you could remove those and pose it then spray but I recommend breaking it down into sections- much easier to manage
Hi,may I know what is the model of your Gundam kits, its looks so beautiful!
Thank you! This is the RG GP01
Hi I’m a bit torn in spray painting or to not spray paint my kit and just go panel lines, markers and weathering. Can this weathering on kits work even if they are not spray painted? Thanks.
yes, just apply a layer of matte coat before and after weatering. the kit in this video is unpainted.
do you also do paint chipping? or is that too overkill?
I always end up overdoing it. But thats just me. Ive seen others do it and it looks really good. I did do some dry brushing in this video: ruclips.net/video/fZOhsdKZZ1c/видео.html
Do you top coat before or after? Or not at all?
Both. Acrylic matte coat :)
So did you use a top coat after decals and lineing and then do this?
Yes. Acrylic matte
is this applied on top of a clear coat or straight onto plastic?
On top of a matte clear coat. Then use more matte clear coat to seal it in.
Dono will u reply or not ,what color for dark parts, black on white works but about dark blue piece.
Up to your preference but I like using the same mix on blue- 90% oil 10% rust
Do you spray the entire model with a clear finish to seal it all in when you’re done? Thanks in advance!
Yes I do!
@@zeroshobbies Awesome thanks!!
Thank you for this tutorial . BTW, Is it possible to remove Tamiya Weathering Master, in case we make a mistake. Thank you.
Yeah it comes off easy with water
@@zeroshobbies Thank you very much.
After you apply weathering do use top coat?
Matte topcoat before and after
Do I need to top coat it before painting or weathering?
Before painting, no
Before weathering, yes
Newbie Question: I just received this set and the instructions mention “semi wet” applicator, yet I can’t find one video instruction of anyone touching base on this. All videos show the powder applied right onto the model. Also the powder is hard and you can’t just scoop it off. Okay so do I need to break the powder down? Does the model or the brush/sponge tip need to be semi moist? Anyone with a experience are more than welcome to respond, thanks in advance.
No moisture needed I do the process dry with matte topcoat before and after
@@zeroshobbies thanks
Do you have to paint the kit before you can weather? Or you can weather right away?
You have to at least matte coat it so the weathering pigment has something to stick too
@@anddyyxx thanks for the info. Good content tho. More tutorials
How would I weather on parts that don't have the raised contour lines? Does it matter?
This is a really good question. Thankfully with gunpla you wont run into too many completely flat parts. If they are rounded I try to follow any edge the best I can. If it has panel lining you can always trace the lines with the weathering master as it will make them more pronounced as well.
@@zeroshobbies Great! Thank you for the quick and informative answer!
@@iambeepbop2452 anytime! Thanks for watching!
Do you topcoat after this?
Yes before and after. Matte topcoat
Do you use any clear coat with these? They seem like they would smear
Yes! Sorry I should have clarified this- spray a layer before so the powder will stick, and then spray one more thin layer after to make sure it stays there. I like to use Mr Hobby Topcoat.
@@zeroshobbies thanks. I'm doing the DeAgostini Millennium Falcon and I'm trying to get as many you'd as I can
@@zeroshobbies did you spray the layer of top coat on before or after you did the panel lines and stickers?
@@iambeepbop2452 I prefer waterslide decals but you can topcoat over stickers. Spray a layer before so the powder will stick, and then spray one more thin layer after to make sure it stays there. I like to use Mr Hobby Topcoat.
Thank you this is great tutorial
