    Recently used Lemon Squad myself, I wanted someone to double check my own inspection of the vehicle. I was glad I did, we were already thinking this particular car was overpriced, but when we had the inspector out they were able to point out a few things that I had not yet seen and answered a few questions based on gaps in the service history... with answers that probably pointed to some bigger issues on this particular vehicle down the road. Needless to say we skipped on that vehicle.

    My wife and I bought our first travel trailer last fall and he is absolutely right. There are tons of little issues that they have brand new. Most of those things can be fixed yourself if you’re handy to be fair. I would rather fix things myself once than to have the dealership half ass the work.
    I’ve reinforced the bed, dinette, lubed up the window tracks and doors, and adjusted the cabinets hinges. Now the thing feels and looks the way a new camper should.

      A lot of RV manufacturers are just slapping things together. If you search RUclips there are a lot of videos on this and how most are junk if you aren't buying higher-end rigs.

    • @Lamtitude
      @Lamtitude Год назад +1

      @@olikat8 very true, but even the high end ones have some very cheap things in them. I walked through a Black Series travel trailer and saw some unacceptably cheap things in it, considering it’s $60,000 price tag. The dinette felt much cheaper than the one in my $30,000 trailer. 😂
      Edit: I forgot to mention Airstream. They have some of the worst quality interiors for the price. Hardly any amenities either. It’s like they haven’t updated their standards since the 70’s. They look amazing on the outside though. Haha

    I could have used this service back in Oct 22 when I wanted to inspect GLS450 out of Florida as I was going to fly from out of state. Could not find anyone locally to go to the dealership and do the inspection. Heck most shops were closed on Saturday (When I was landing for purchase) . Finally had to convince Local Mercedes Dealership at Melbourne to take pre purchase inspection.
    I could have definitely saved more if I had Someone given me report before I fly down there.

    Recently used lemon squad to inspect a 2015 Audi R8 that I was interested in purchasing out of state. Unfortunately my experience was less than stellar. Ordered the inspection on Monday. Inspector did not inspect the vehicle until Friday evening. Communication was terrible and I was the one reaching out for updates. Almost missed out on the vehicle because inspection took so long to be scheduled. Once I received the report pictures were not high quality. Spoke to the inspector on the phone and he did not have much to share with me except that the car was wrapped. (Which it was not, it had paint protection film on the front clip) Hopefully others have a better experience than I did.

    Just my two cents but I've noticed on a lot of chassis built vehicals like school buses and campers and motorhomes and most anything custom built the work is usually nowhere up to factory snuff. They will wire stuff in to places it shouldn't be and fabricate complete junk on top of good existing structure and call it a job well done. But that's why they can sell it to you at an affordable rate.

    I can say as an American that has also purchased cars in Germany, TUV and Dekra are on a totally different level and have higher standards than even some “professional restorers” in the US and they’re just inspectors. MOT in England is in a different league as well. Then again, vehicle inspection standards just like drivers license standards aren’t a total joke like they are in the US.

    Don't know the legal implications of this, but is there a way to access the grades publically? Seems to me a public database that connects the VINs to a Lemon Squad grade would help a lot of people. You might lose some business but you could also sell the inspection reports to more people i.e. someone might be turned off by say a head gasket issue but someone else may want the project.

By that, I mean a "new" business concept, It rarely goes in the direction you thought,, So as long as you can roll with it you will do just fine,, When I started my construction products business 20 years ago I expected it to be 90% homeowners, the rest contractors doing residential work. Wow was I wrong! Its currently 95% contractors doing about 60% residential work.Does it matter who buys ? it does when your selling, I still get customers asking about a contractor discount, and I say the same thing, "if I give a contractor discount,, who do I charge full price to ? It's brad nails and staples, the 120v electrical is in those awful combo junction/device things, etc, etc. Lol but we started with something clean, seemed the big deal about buying used was nothing ever felt truly clean and ready to go, an RV is always needing a little something fixed, so I'm not too upset, that's for sure! It's been fun, and I'm no stranger to fixing stuff so it's not like it's gotta go to a shop every time a little something goes wrong. But that doesn't mean I haven't been surprised at how light and cheap they're allowed to make stuff.
      For context I've also travelled in a class a motorhome on a couple occasions, and was a very similar story. Seems to be the common experience for people that actually USE an RV not just park it in the driveway or yard 🤣

A combination of chicken tax, illegal imports the works just sets up the primary concerns and at the same time the tempo to "invest" in these vehicles. The lack of competition (capitalism) is at the forefront of all things in the US concerning living quarters in mobile housing/cars of all things.
