- The director of design for the upcoming game set in Tolkien's world talks about his history in the industry and his love for system-driven sandbox games like the one being crafted at Monolith.
This game is potentially going to be phenomenal or shit. Fingers crossed for the former, it has so much potential :D
I said the same thing when I first heard of Dead Island... I was SO disapointed. The game isn't bad but it was not what I expected.
Yeah, but if the devs really put a lot of hardwork into the game, I really hope it becomes an epic game and goty worthy.

The basic question that I actually have is that WB games wont screw the Console Gamers over again with Nvidia Monopoly that console gamers will not get more Blood Particle effect, Console Gamers will not get the extra Rain effect, Console Gamers will not get the Extra ingame Buildings etc., atleast not the Next Gen ones I suppose?
It looks good so far, I hope they don't screw it up, please don't screw it up, we lotr fans have been waiting for this for ages
So many different components mashing together. Fallout 3 did it and Arkham also did it. I really hope they pull it off.

u give us freedom in the game as u say to do anything we like but in a *small* world that is only mordor... if the whole middle earth was free then it could be one of the most games ever created! i realy want to explore all of the m-e

mordor is fricking huge and its not all just a huge black desert thing like it is in the movie
first there's no system that can handle that, second mordor is massive, and third this is before mordor was a shithole
The plains of Gorgoroth are very, very, very big. Take into account that they are so large that there are villages, garrisons and towers all over it. Just pull up a map of Middle Earth and see. Mordor is bigger than Rohan and The Shire put together.
Katsas Georgios i gues they will only add plains of gorgoroth and moranon the black gate.... no litlad no nurn and sea nurnen wich is the southern mordor.... if they add these 3 places it will be very big...

Game developers need to take risks and make a Lord of the Rings game thats epic in scope and size like the Elder Scroll series.
Just imagine being able to visit the Shire, Rivendell, Isengard, Helm's Deep, Gondor, the Palenor fields and even enter Barad Dur in Mordor in both first and third person. Imagine being able to create your own Uruk-hai and make him look like a grey skinned Axe from Dota 2, or make your hobbit look like Teemo from League of Legends. Imagine being able to participate in the wide sprawling battles of Helm's Deep or even ride upon the elephants as you charge towards the great armies of Rohan. Imagines casting firebolts at your enemy while simultaneosly blocking weapon swings with your sword. Imagine fighting 1v1 duels with bosses like the Bulrog, Saruman, Azog, Shelob and even Gollum. Imagine riding through the wide open pathways of Minas Tirith as Nazguls swarm over you and boulders are hurled at you from below. Imagine talking with Frodo and visiting his home and even participating as a member of the fellowship. Just imagine the possibilities.
We need a LOTR game like this! I'm suggesting Bethesda, Ubisoft or Rockstar be in charge of it since they can do open world right. But seriously what do you guys think of a game like this!
I hope they don't do that usual thing the Middle earth video games do, where you have mages.. OH GOD NOT THE MAGES. Completely lore breaking, and even more ridiculous when they've got Mages in every race (LOTRO).. I really hope this game does the books justice, and keeps the experience as canon as they possibly could without Tolkien's presence and guidance. The key is to work in the grey areas of Middle Earth's History, and not interrupt anything that already exists, except implement new things that had their bases build to expand on.
Developers have to know people want co op rpgs basically with full customisation. The problem is they only did that with destiny this game would be perfect for it. You're traveling and get ambushed because of something a friend did in your game. I'd play the hell out of that.
I played the first 3 LOTR games and after the return of the king ive just been waiting for something like this! Cant wait
One day I hope someone makes a huge Middle Earth game, with like an elder scrolls feel to it. but stray away from the the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings time period. There is a lot of other events and time periods that they can base a game around.
Like how these guys have been keeping it mostly under wraps so it gives us something to look forward to. Looks fucking awesome!

so is this game in any way an RPG-can you level up, gain new abilities, get new weapons and clothing? As good as this looks I long for the day someone creates a Huge middle earth RPG on console

somehow i dont think this guy gives a crap about the tolkien lore..so far shadow of mordor is amazing and not just because its lotr but in gaming in general...just hope it doesent break lore too much

Steezy Carlos Well i dont see the reason for condescending response...while he "might" know more i highly doubt its by far since im a big Tolkien fan since my early days...and i couldn't see in this interview where he ever stated that lorewise they took extra care...which in my opinion should be number 1 thing to be carefull when creating anything involving LotR or Tolkien

great interview. when he compared his goal of making the best possible game that happens to use a movie licence like arkam asslium does with the badman licence, that got me excited.
i really cant wait to dive into this games story =) i already have some speculations as to who the wraith probably is and his intentions with mordor

A coop component would be interesting to add to the game. It looks as if it has a lot of potential and would be much improved to add coop.

I feel like their going with a fallout new vegas consequence sense but more in depth I just can't wait for this game seems like a sandbox with so much new and great potential and just keeps me playing without getting bored like a fallout

If they can pull off a game that emphasizes story, a customize-able world, and the open world (goofing-off) gameplay we see in such games as Skyrim, I will be incredibly impressed.

This game will either be a surprise hit how Batman Arkham Asylum was, or a total miss like War in the North...
I just hope that the combat in this game will be fluid, cool to look at, and most importantly, fun to play kinda like the Batman Arkham series and most Assassin's Creed games (at least the combat system from Brotherhood and up) instead of a clunky combat system from games like War in the North and The Force Unleased where the sword is more of a club instead of a friggin' sword!
Story wise, I'm not too worried about it... They have the same guy who wrote Red Dead Redemption for crying out loud! What more do you want lol?
War in the North wasn't that bad, everyone I know enjoyed it, could it be improved? Certainly, but it wasn't broken or poor, overall it was a pretty good game.

PC, xbone, and PS4. Though they may release it on the 360 and PS3 too... i think I saw mention of that on their site....
