  • Same deal as the previous video where I swapped the Sonic Superstars music I didn't like with Transformers Devastation, only this time I swap the music in Golden Capital with Spark The Electric Jester music. Shoutout to techno5468 for suggesting it in the comment section.
    Also switched the music for Frozen Base Act Tails (even though the stage is fine, I just find the length and pace more appropriate for the song I used, compared to Act 1).
    Could've uploaded this video sooner, but I had a massive headache yesterday and was bedridden for the whole day.
    Anyways, please enjoy.
    Music used:
    - Spark The Electric Jester OST - Caria Valley
    - Spark The Electric Jester OST - Reynol Complex
    - Spark The Electric Jester OST - Mini Boss 1
    - Spark The Electric Jester OST - Mini Boss 2
    - Spark The Electric Jester 2 OST - Floresta Blanca

    The game needs banger tracks like these to go with these levels and bosses.

    Spark The Electric Jester as a whole is one of the best games ever made(and yes there is freedom planet but details....that two is a great series as well-w-) And playing this with it's ost.....

      @@madengineerkyoumaI personally prefer FP2 over the first one in a lot of ways from QoL improvements to better level design and more engaging boss fights combined with more movement and attack options.
      What did you found lacking in FP2 compared to the original?

    • @madengineerkyouma
      @madengineerkyouma 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@MariusUrucu First, the fact that FP2 has no Classic mode unlocked by default. I already didn't care for the story in the first game, the second one lost my interest even faster and even has the map and those boring hub areas to talk with NPCs. At least the first game had Classic mode by default.
      Second, while I agree bosses in 2 are better, combat during the level was better in the first game, or even in Spark 1. In FP2 I find enemy placement annoying and I'd rather ignore enemies than defeat them. They're more like annoying stage hazards. It's hard to explain in detail considering I haven't played the game since launch week (and coincidentally I used the refund money to buy Spark 3).
      And lastly, this is more of a nitpick, while overall the game looks nicer, as a pixel artist myself it causes me emotional damage every time the game zooms out and the sprites end up looking like a mess of pixels. In general I think the game should have been a bit more zoomed out by default and the sprites designed for that.
      Other than that, I thought the game was just decent. Not bad but nothing special.

    • @madengineerkyouma
      @madengineerkyouma 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@MariusUrucu Though to be fair I want to give FP2 another chance someday. It came out at the worst possible moment, only two weeks after Curse Crackers (which is, in my opinion, the best fast-paced 2D platformer ever. Also the only indie fast 2D platformer I know NOT inspired by Sonic or Wario Land 4) so the bar was set extremely high.

I have collaberated with over 1,000 artists and bands and I have created at least 35 albums since my debut in 1980. I have to wonder, if they were to make a 2D Sonic game that was just it's own thing or a modern iteration of it like Sonic Advance, would we then get a soundtrack that doesn't lean on trying to recreate the sound of the Genesis games?

    • @MariusUrucu
      @MariusUrucu  10 месяцев назад +7

      Fr, I genuinely think Sonic games, even the ones in the classic style should explore a variety of music genres and not just recreating "Genesis-like music" out of obliagation. Back then it was hardware limitation and even then those songs were good despite said limitation.
      It's the reason I look fondly at fangames like Sonic BTS and ATS.

    • @JadeJovian
      @JadeJovian 10 месяцев назад +4

      @@MariusUrucu
      The Genesis music is there for the same reason that Classic Sonic is. It's simply part of the artstyle. Yes, there were obviously hardware limitations but most of Superstars' OST uses modern instruments so I don't see how that applies here.
      It's not "Genesis-like music out of obligation", it's quite literally the same thing as we were getting back then.
      Jun Senoue and Tatsuyuki Maeda, the geniuses behind S3K and Sonic 3d Blast, returned for this OST. Their compositions are essentially identical to what they would make back then, and if they had been released in '94, everyone would be calling them bangers today.
      Also, "Genesis" isn't a genre.

    • @MariusUrucu
      @MariusUrucu  10 месяцев назад +2

      @@JadeJovian Then why limit Jun to synths instead of real instruments? Stylistic choice or not, it clashes with the other songs that don't use them.

    • @JadeJovian
      @JadeJovian 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@MariusUrucu
      Not sure what you mean by "limit to synths instead of real instruments".
      Jun Senoue used virtual studios here, and I'm 99% sure everyone else did as well. It's not like these songs are live recordings, so nothing here is a real instrument.
      It's very true that the difference in style between tracks causes inconsistency, but why blame that all on Jun Senoue? The other composers caused just as much inconsistency as he did.

    • @MariusUrucu
      @MariusUrucu  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@JadeJovian I just don't like Jun's music here, or at least the "instruments" used for his tracks, simple as, much like how it was in Sonic 4.
      I don't care who Jun Senoue is, if his music is underwhelming I'll call him out on it. The other tracks from the other composers sound much better.

    this game has some serious bangers, but sadly, it also has quite disappointing instrumentations in some acts, which is a shame, but well, it still has some real good shit so that will carry the whole soundtrack for me.
    It's a shame that this soundtrack doesn't reach the levels of the rest of classic game's osts, but well, sonic has always been one of the videogame music kings, so it's not a big deal seeing him "fail" in some musical aspects because, well, nothing can be always perfect.
