  • A walking tour of Utica Avenue from Malcolm X Boulevard to Crown Heights Eastern Parkway offers a fascinating exploration of one of Brooklyn's most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. As you stroll along this bustling avenue, you will encounter a mix of residential, commercial, and cultural establishments that reflect the rich history and contemporary character of the area.
Starting at the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard and Fulton Street, you will begin your journey by immersing yourself in the lively street activity. The first few blocks are lined with various shops, restaurants, and small businesses, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of the community. Take in the sights and sounds of vendors selling fresh produce from local farms, tantalizing aromas from Caribbean food trucks, and the vibrant colors of clothing stores specializing in African attire.
Moving further along, Utica Avenue becomes a melting pot of cultures. You will notice a mix of architectural styles, from classic brownstones to modern apartment complexes, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the residents who call this place home. The neighborhood's Caribbean influence becomes more pronounced as you pass by lively reggae music playing from storefronts and the aroma of jerk chicken wafting from local eateries.
As you approach Eastern Parkway, you will encounter an array of cultural and religious institutions that further highlight the neighborhood's diversity. Mosques, synagogues, and churches coexist harmoniously, speaking to the interfaith bonds that unite the community.
You'll be captivated by the beautiful murals adorning the walls along Utica Avenue, depicting scenes of unity, empowerment, and celebration of the neighborhood's cultural heritage. Keep an eye out for the captivating artwork by local artists that pay tribute to the African diaspora and its contributions to the neighborhood

In the 1970's, I lived in Brooklyn on Utica Ave. Singer Stephanie Mills lived across the street from me with her Aunt. That area was predominantly Jewish. I was one of only two black families living on my block. I still own a house 🏠 over there. Great video. Best of luck to you 🙏🏼

Yes, this is true. My mom bought her house in 1976 in this neighborhood. My mom passed and left the house to my siblings and I. I live here. It has changed a lot.

Thank you for the wonderful tour of Utica Ave. I lived on Sterling place near Utica in the 1960s. A lot has changed. My girlfriend lived near Utica and Church Ave. So I used to walk or take the bus.
