Today I tried Gumi AI and VOCALOID6 and… It’s kinda confusing… No growl, no attack and release effects, no way to turn a VOCALOID track into a VOCALOID AI track and viceversa and while the new voices add multilingual function, Gumi AI doesn’t. I tried to make her sing ECHO and she did most of the vocals, but there were consonants that would go silent. In Japanese songs Gumi AI sounds natural and realistic, but she also sounds soft, which is not suitable for every song. I like that she sounds so clean, but I dislike finding it so difficult to change the emotions according to the song. There are “Megpoid effects” that I asume are intended to do something similar to the appends or extends, but there’s literally almost no difference. I genuinely think that part of VOCALOID charm is to be in the sweet spot where natural and robotic meet, so I don’t find interesting that a program can mimic human voice if it cannot mimic it in a range of registers and emotions, sacrificing all for a natural sound. I feel like VOCALOID6 and its AI voices are off to a good start, but it needs improvement :S
Honestly it's a shame we've had long-time players like Synth V in the field for years at this point, and despite that, Vocaloid has less features now than everyone else, including previous versions of Vocaloid. All that for a much greater price than most of the programs on the market as well. They should have worked on it longer before releasing it, because I imagine most people are gonna test the trial version and then say something like, "Yeah, this is cool and all, but I get a lot more control and features with Synth V and better quality AI voices for half the price of Vocaloid 6 if not less." Don't get me wrong; I love Megpoid AI and would probably purchase and use her voice bank if I was able to. I'm just saying, Yamaha should probably put more effort into their product if they want it to continue being a viable option on the market for long after now.
there is growl! click a note then on the top right, click the “i” button. there is options to add voice effects including growl and vocal fry! you can also add growl to the entire vocal track by clicking the track and going back to the “i” button to increase the growl factor. the gender/coolness factor is back too
Many ppl complain about V6, they said V6 in verge of death because competitor like synth V, cevio with their realistic vocals. I think Vocaloid isn't dead yet. Vocaloid doesnt try to be realistic, robotic sound is their charm. It's true there are many realistic vocaloid like gumi or gakupo, but dont forget miku and her cute robotic voice loved by everyone. This Vocaloid 6 is great, gumi sound realistic yet still gumi we loved (not like IA in cevio, IA in cevio is pretty realistic but she lose some of her characteristic vocals in vocaloid) I hope we will see the old vocaloid make it back to yamaha vocaloid 6

Of course idk how vocaloid works so i speak strictly from a listening perspective, not sure if she becomes any easier to work with in her newer iterations. How easy is the AI to implement?
It sounds so fucking good but doesn’t lose the robotic charm I’m only afraid that since everything is going toward realism, newer vociebanks will have less avenues for tuners to express themselves. Like the different styles everyone has.

BTW She does have multilingual function, you need to select the English pronunciation from the drop down when entering a note
