We had a leftover wheeled walker (with a seat) that made it easy to hold and move the ice machine for both my husband (LTKR Nov 23) and me (RTKR Feb24). A movable platform. Easy to move from room to room or next to sink to empty and refill.
A friend loaned her ice machine to me and then purchased one on Amazon. Best investment ever. I think surgeons should just add 200.00 dollars to their fee and send you home with one.
Thanks Dr. Smith, I appreciate the research and advice. I'm recovering from total knee replacement and will be undergoing the other knee replacement next year. I will be going with the Polar Ice Machine.
On my first knee replacement in December I had an ice machine that my doctor let me use. It also provided compression. The next knee I will probably just get the regular ice machine.
Dr Sam Smith - Thanks for the video on ice machines vs Ice wrap. You did not mention ice machines that can provide compression. What are your thoughts on this topic?
If you can find an affordable one, I love the compression cooling wraps. The only issue is the incision during the first few weeks might be sensitive to the compression.
This is a good one! It’s a little smaller. It stays really cold too. You can use code DRSAM10 for 10% off. www.polarproducts.com/polarshop/pc/Soft-Ice-Deluxe-Knee-Wrap-p146.htm
Yes! They do sell timers if yours doesn’t have one. Here is the link (use code DRSAM10 for 10% off! )www.polarproducts.com/polarshop/pc/Programmable-Timer-Temperature-Flow-Control-p557708.htm
@@dr.samanthasmith we were having to go and get a new one every hour. When I took the old one off after that amount of time it was very hot🥲I live in England so not a hot country at all 😂

Genius idea!! I love that!

I totally agree!! It is so so helpful
@@dr.samanthasmith It truthfully was better than pain meds. It was relaxing and soothing.
My surgeon does! The ice pad was integrated into the heavy gauze mummy wrap.
The hospital gave me an ice machine (Breg) to take home. Stayed cold all night. I only used for 2 weeks.

But one question, do you need to cover the knee with an ace under the wrap or is it ok to have it directly on the skin?
You’ll want to use a towel or sheet
Is there an ice pack you would recommend that is a little less bulky that can be used for travel?

The hospital sent one home with me however I haven’t been able to figure out how to use it? It’s not cold on the sleeve when I turn it on.
If it’s the polar active ice, you can call their customer service for help
I have Polar ice machine
I wonder if I can buy a time to go with that
Thanks

Ice machines are way too expensive. I’m 4 weeks and 3 days TKR and a pensioner.
They aren’t absolutely necessary but nice to have
