Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens is based off an award-winning gender-bender light novel that has obvious references to Cowboy Beebop (take note of Banba's and Lin's character designs- Lin being a mix of Spike Spiegel's ex-girlfriend- when it comes to eyes and hair color- while Lin's clothing is reminiscent of Spike's female non-romantic partner). If you read the light novel, the story is definitely one of revenge as Banba is on a quest to find his father's murderer. The anime didn't have the chance to go this deep into the original plot- so mostly, the story focuses on Banba and Lin's "accidental" partnership as detectives. The twist is that Banba's detective agency is only legit on the surface; most of its work gets done with the help and support of an underground fraternity of mercenaries and assassins led by Banba himself, who happens to be a skilled swordsman and a baseball aficionado at that. Basically he and Lin hit it off the moment they met. There are sexual innuendos that seem more humorous than serious- as Banba seems to be always happily craving for "mentaiko" (a dish made from fish sperm) and shockingly declared, at least once, that he prefers butts to boobs😅😂 I'm glad to have found an upload of this track. This anime is VERY underrated but worth the watch as it smoothly blends humor, suspense, and b/romance. I hope viewers would give this story a chance regardless of their shipping preferences.😍
