Hi from Colorado. Great vid (loved the commentary along the way, too)! Was looking for a good overview on the process of swapping out the steering box. I feel like I have the knowledge necessary to do the swap on my 70 Beetle. Again, well done on the video.
Good video I just done this job on me 69 beetle was some what easier with more room as I could take the tank out. Fair play to yea a vey good video. Just drop mine also with spindles now it drives much better.
I was talking to the owner today about it. The plan is to get it back to stock height and restore it so it won't be staying ratty and slammed forever. I couldn't live with it the way it is myself either. It's awful to drive.
I wish they were all mine, but no, there's a few of us renting a space as you said. There's some lovely machines there! The MG and the T25 camper are mine.
Just wondering. You tightnen the pinch bolt of the pitman arm and there is stil play between the axle and the arm? Aren't there supposed to be locking plates on the steering box and pitman arm bolts?!
I'll say it to the owner of the car if he wants to pick up a new one. It's not actually my car. I wasn't aware of this issue. Thanks for pointing it out.
Honestly, it's a car that needs a lot of work. As I said in the video, my task was to change the steering box but I did tell him that many other components are contributing to the poor handling.
You make me feel like there is some hope in this world with your open smile and wonderful can-do attitude.
Thank you! That's very nice of you to say.

Yeah it's an easy enough job once you get the tank out of the way.
I am Curious to know how this New Steering box worked out after 2 years seeing it was a AFTER Market one ??
I have no idea to be honest. This wasn't my car and I didn't hear anything further about it.
Nice job on the steering box sir !! Got to love an early, ratty and slammed bug :) but they are awful to drive

Seeing as it was the steering I thought there would be split pins, locking washers and loads of Locktite but obviously not.
Many of the nuts are nyloc nuts. They're all well stitched in and going nowhere.
Awesome video 🤙 thanks
Thank you very much!
This bought in person at auction a few years back?
Very like one my father was bidding on at one stage.
I don't know to be honest. I don't think so, but it may be. Where was the car that you were bidding on?
@@Endfloat I wanna say kilkenny. I just asked the aul lad and he said it was a 65 not a 67. So different car.
@@usrnmeunknwn8691 ah right. Did he get a beetle in the end?
No. It was more of a case of right place right time, car was registered same year he was born so it got his interest. But have a t2 baywindow
good stuff ross keep the content coming. whats the story with the garage? are they all your buses or is there a few of ye renting a place out?

Thank you!
Super vid . Thanks
You're welcome! 😎
Those neoprene couplers are dangerous.
I've heard that and advised the owner of the car. It was the owner that supplied the part.
@@Endfloat I replaced mine too. I went with one that is rubber with reinforced cloth sandwiched inside. The neoprene one distorted really badly.
enjoyed it thanks

That would make sense actually. That said, I've never seen them on any other beetle.
That thing needs castor shims on the beams its too slammed
Those urethane couplers are rubbish, bin it before it breaks while driving

@@Endfloat a lowered bug on irish roads and one of those couplers is asking for trouble.
