I feel like a back to back viewing of the documentary of the failed attempts followed by the finished product would be a really intriguing viewing experience
Been a huge fan since Time Bandits and have to agree about Brazil and its quality after repeat viewings. I am just glad Terry Gilliam got to make this. It is a shame his contempt for the industry has over shadowed recent works. His films seem like a perfect outlet for that anger but lately it has seemed crippling for him. Great , and honest reviews as always.
It's a shame he never found a perfect partner in crime who could produce his films over the long haul. From what I hear, he frequently has taken cash from rather unscrupulous sources which ended up biting him on the ass.
Snixelmix Nyx Brazil blew my mind almost literally the 1st time I saw it on the Big screen and have seen it many times and can still be baffled. Brilliant is a word I use sparingly but it applies to Brazil.
Read the book. It's really excellent. It's an easy-ish read, surprisingly funny, and shockingly modern. It isn't called the first modern novel without reason.
Thank you for posting a review of this movie. I really wanted to see it, but I couldn't find coverage for my shift. Love Terry Gilliam and Adam Driver so I'm really bummed that I missed this. Hopefully it will be available for streaming so fans can see it. If not, well, at least I have a new Orville episode to look forward to tonight.
Oh hell yeah. Very fired up for the return of the Orville tonight. My understanding is that The Man Who Killed Don Quixote will get a larger release in a few weeks so you'll definitely still have a chance to catch it.
It's a total knock-out and highly recommended. The film logic isn't clarified until the final scene. At some point, you realise that you are dealing with two parallel realities, and the fascination with the film is how Don Quixote & Toby can still converse to each other across that divide.
Agreed. I'm working on it. I'm trying to rely less on my text but I was operating with a limited amount of time and just needed to get the video out the door.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock I don't find that to be a problem for me because you're concise, but I think I am seeing a lot of motion blur whenever you move, it's almost like bullet-time.
Thanks for the review James. Haven’t thought about how old Terry Gilliam is and I am so glad he finally got to complete this. He record is a bit spotty but he is always interesting. Brazil and Twelve Monkeys are both in my top 20 favorites of all times. Time Bandits is a laugh riot and his Monty Python work is great. Also love The Fisher King and Fear and loathing in Las Vegas and the imagarium Of dr Parnassus (or whatever it was called lol) was interesting.

100% agree!
It was! And it made me appreciate the final film so much more, knowing all the problems it had behind the scenes.

Just saw it, and it almost didn't happen. The streaming was delayed about an hour, and one of the scenes was interrupted by loss of sound.
Very fitting!

Watching your eyes dart back and forth reading is really distracting once you start noticing it, FYI.

OK, cool just trying to give some constructive criticism.@@geekinwithJamesHancock
EccentricSM I never noticed that James so it’s not a glaring distraction and I have been watching you since Twin peaks and your old name🌷

This is the best Terry Gilliam film since Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Great review and nice context as always. Very fair and balanced. For all it's apparent faults this does seem a must see.
So what are your top 5 Gilliam flicks?
HOW THE HELL DID YOU NOT READ DON QUIXOTE!?... i had to read it for school here in germany
Well I was assigned it several times, I was just lazy and bluffed my way through the discussions.
@@geekinwithJamesHancock Cliff Notes?
Sometimes, quitting on an idea is better.
Very rarely. And the movie he made is still decent, it's not like the finished product is a disaster.
Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite directors - it's a shame he seems to miss the mark with this film.
Plenty of folks seem to be absolutely loving the flick so definitely take a crack at it and see what you think.
Thanks for the review James.

I support the Zero Theorem.
The people without love know the message of the climate... ;)
Yes the king Fisher was much better
adam driver is terrible in everything i've seen him in. this movie is so miscast.
If only Kylo Ren wasn't in this movie...
