If you leave a layer of snow under the house it’s an added layer of insulation between you and the ice so it definitely helps keep it from getting super wet!

This is awesome I fish Lake Erie for the slob smallies but only open water. No ice fishing in site for me this year unless February decides to bring winter with it.
Yes leave the snow, it provides a cold barrier between you and the ice. I drive a zamboni and if there is frost on the ice in the morning we leave it on, its like a protection layer from the elements including sun etc.

You should try putting your heater on a milk crate to keep it off the floor. That’s helped me with less water under my mats this winter Ice camping
