- When I saw the Heuer 60th anniversary watch, I knew it was special, but when I saw the new Timex Marlin Chrono, I had a double take...I don't even know what to think anymore, watch the video for some creamy watch shots and my convoluted thoughts on watch PERFECTION.

Timex has honestly been killing it lately with this, the world timer, the mk1s and expedition norths, and the tonneau.
You know, I saw both the Timex and Tag a while ago. The Timex isn’t something I’d normally go for with it being a quartz homage. But when I saw the Tag, I realized I’m not willing to put down Speedmaster money for it. Nothing wrong with it; clearly would’ve been a good investment. But I’d sooner buy a Speedmaster. Now this video has made me reconsider the Timex. Yes it’s quartz, but I might just be entering my idgaf phase.
Yeah it's so much fun for pocket change compared to those other examples... I'll probably wear it, and give it to one of my non watch friends in the hopes of converting them 😄
@@WatchCrunchOfficial If you like it, why not keep it and wear it? Afraid of what the neighbors might say? Why this "I'll give my lesser cake to the peasants before someone important catches me eating what I love" attitude?
Are you willing to spend Speedmaster money on a Speedmaster?
Sounds like a fair trade
Why not consider the Fortis B-42 Novanaut. It's another REAL space watch. If have have extra change, that's the space watch I'll get. The moment is space tested, and is NOT hand wound. And I do get tired of all the Speedmaster look a like.
Great video! I just bought a Timex Expedition and it’s a good watch. Timex is a great brand and glad they’re stepping up their game. I love quality, but cost is very important as well. Having a family to support means more than an expensive watch 😂
Another legendary affordable watch is the field CWC G10. I just picked mine up (currently sold out), and it has almost killed all the other watches for me. Hesalite glass, 36mm case x 10.5mm thick, fixed lugs, super accurate, issued to British Army for like 30 years... all for £279...Charming little beauty . I love it
I've been considering getting the CWC SBS for a while now, they make good watches!
@@Osama-Bon-Jovi-01 yeah that's very cool looking too
Love that mega-dome plexi on the Timex - so much warmth and character.
Kudos to Timex for making such a beautiful chronograph but honestly I’ll go with the Tag. I’ve been looking at the glassbox for weeks and I’m honestly in love with that piece.
I love what Timex has been doing around the $200 price range. Any lower you take Chinese homages and any higher there's loads of established brands amd up and coming micro-brands to contend with.
Just got the Timex this week as I missed the boat with the Tag earlier this year. Has been on wrist continuously since. The bracelet does feel a little cheap (especially the clasp) but the aesthetics are totally on point.
Yes the bracelet is light, but comfortable
I own the 160th anniversary which is the same as this Tag Heuer but all silver dial and sub dials. My only annoyance is that the box sapphire crystal’s rim around the edges covers the second markers around the dial which can only be appreciated while looking at an angle. I wish I could get a plexiglass custom made and replace the sapphire glass. That would be perfect. Other than that these models are excellent quality, perfect size, amazing movement very well finished.
I grew up in the seventies, when the Timex brand, might as well have said 'Woolworths?!'
Times have definitely changed - I love this new chrono!
Damn, I remember Woolworths! 🤯
The Tag “Heuer” is a beauty. Too bad they were limited. Hopefully they will release the same look with a Tag Heuer logo on it. I could settle for that.
Great video! I genuinely appreciate your openness to understanding why homage watches aren’t necessarily a bad thing considering it’s simply a symptom of commercialized consumerism. The watch world is not unique in this way, especially when we expand our perspectives to take into account how “homage” designers or manufacturers make luxury items attainable to the mass market. These are certainly not the same quality as the true artisanal luxury watches but most of us can’t afford time pieces of limited quantities: after all, the US middle class is shrinking so the number of people who can afford such products are limited to financially well-off or the financial irresponsible.
I was lucky enough to get this Heuer 60th anniversary model.
It first came out in Jan but I must have slept on it I didn’t want it till I saw it in March, by that time it had long sold out, but I had to pay the premium for it. Still happy I grabbed it. As these are hard to find on the secondary market. Which I assume that the people who do have it , are true watch enthusiasts and like myself glad I have it in the collection.
Congrats, hopefully you didn't over pay too much!
The Heuer is a very lovely watch and for me as a technical guy the movement looks superb. The Timex is nice, but the date window screws up proports to a point I feel triggered badly… Anyway I have to give it a try, as I love plexi domes. Could be a sporty addition to the Junghans Max Bill Chrono. Thank you for the great review and highlighting these two gems! ❤️
Nice review bro. Digging your channel lately. Thanks!
You did a review now I can't find one 😂 keep up the good work. Enjoyed the review.
Max, love your channel/review…keep up the good work! Unlike other youtubers, they always trying to sell you something.
Appreciate the encouragement 😊
Nice review. I'm definitely interested but the steel bracelet isn't stock is it? I've only seen the leather strap.
Dan Henry 1964 Gran Turismo Chronograph is another alternative that is even better looking than that timex( I have both).Give Dan Henry a chance it is the best brand for vintage inspired under $300. I think you would love the 1964.
Love what Dan is doing 👍
Dan Henry has beautiful watches but I cannot bring myself to buy a watch brand that’s called Dan Henry.
Yes, I have the 1964 no date silver panda tri-complex (now sold out) and I love it.
Dan Henry is a stunner.
@@arielspalter7425 I thought the same! But I received more compliments from it than from my Rolex and Cartier so It changed my mind. It is my favorite beater.
Timex isn't necessarily plagerizing. They are dipping into their own very deep and rich history. The new Marlin taps from its own past Marlins.
Yeah, they heavily inspired from ther own Timex Viscount too.
Don’t forget Timex’s tonneau/barrel model that completely embodies the ‘70s vibes.
The fact that Tag made that watch limited is infuriating. The watch industry these days is absolutely horrible.
Marketing FOMO. 😮💨
Every limited edition watch is just a watch for the scalpers.
Great video and observations, thanks for your review
Timex is killing it last couple of years. This, the previous range of marlins, the james brand collabs, the giorgio S2. The conversation has moved from "It's a good Timex" to - "It's a good watch!!!"
Ps: The perfect watch exists. It's called the grand seiko sbgx261
I respected your opinion until you stated that the perfect watch exists and it's a Grand Seiko SBGX261. That's a bold statement that no one has the right to make. Well, um, upon further review, holy crapola, you actually might be right. Stunningly perfect dimensions and simple yet refined look for various occasions.
cute japanese oyster homage
I have a Timex Explorer Diver that is at least 20 years old. Whenever I wear it, people compliment me on it and ask how much it was, its quite laffable compared to quite expensive watches. But I still love it regardless.............
The Tag Heuer is truly beautiful another watch that in my eyes is just as beautiful at about 1/3 the price is the HAmilton Intramatic chronograph 😊
Yes, owned it, great watch 👍
Why did you sold it, Max?
@@camilo862 excellent question, I still own mine and will most likely never leave my collection
I've had the Timex Marlin Chronograph, Blue Dial in my shopping cart a few times now but haven't pulled the trigger.. But even just the aesthetics at under $200 seems worth it.
It's a killer watch 👍
Weird question but what blue linen(?) shirt are you wearing in some of the shots? Oh, watch is a beauty too!
Both my wife and I tried on the Tag Heuer, at a boutique and my wife was ready to go 50/50 on it lol. But I wasn't ready to spend that much for a Tag. But it was beautiful and wife approved. As for the Timex, I gifted my dad the Q GMT Batman, for Xmas last year. Now im considering either the Q Chrono or the Marlin Chrono, as a gift. Im torn and can't decide. Maybe ill get both and keep one..lol
Tag is killing it lately. Nice to see them get some love from the US.
Love that Heuer. The glass box Carreras are awesome too
TH GLASSBOX is very nice option!
I agree the Timex get positive nod given that the price difference. But one thing that Heuer collector almost cannot find in other chronograph I think is the lugs. Carrera lugs are just perfect for the case. IMHO.
How fun are those Art Deco numerals, love it.
the timex with champaqne dial also looks really good
Tried finding the Timex Marlin online but seems sold out everywhere. Know anywhere to purchase or if it will be restocking?
Do you have a link to purchase the Timex? The only ones I’ve seen on the website don’t have the bracelet
Now everyone is on the Timex bandwagon
The 160th Anniversary watch from a few years ago but with black dials. Nice.
I love this watch so much, so perfect for my taste
Call it watch fatigue or sanity taking over in reaction to luxury watch prices increases, but I now consider spending multiple thousands of euros (say more than 2) on a watch I might wear 3 times in a month not a sensible behavior.
Sure, I enjoy wearing my Grand Seiko to the office and my gilt dial BlackBay 58 keeps a special place in my heart, but receiving the most enthusiastic comments for a 61€ Mecaquartz vintage Patek Pagani homage (thanks Jody btw) made me reconsider a couple of things
And having so much fun rocking my big boy blue dial Casio Duro or my 1990s RJOQ56 YEMA Superman Worldtime (no less 😉) drove me to skip the very good looking Tissot heritage 1938 and pick a sector salmon dial with a touch of Breguet numerals €137 Merkur, which nicely scratches that 1930s itch without the gilt.
I guess that Timex would do the same.
LOVE the blue Casio Duro
I think you treated Timex with a proper amount of fairness. Thank you. Good, good watch channel. Cheers from Texas.
Cheers Richard 👍
MORE HEUER, LESS TAG!!! 🤟🏻
If I had to choose a Carrera, I would probably go for the 90s reissue with the Lemania 1873. Although, in my opinion, the Carrera 60th anniversary is the most beautiful and successful combination of tradition and modernity ever.
I love new TAG but I will never spend this much , in saying this I tried on 5 different chronographs on Sunday and would love a skyblue Toptime or the blue Carrera . Just gorgeous though no argument. Timex looks like the gateway :)
Marling automatics is what I’m interested in. They’ve reissued a few.
I have that Timex Marlin, you can’t go wrong with it for that price range!!
Nice video. I live at a watch price point where I’d likely never buy an auto-chrono simply because of the maintenance/ repair costs associated with them. I like this Timex, but… I’ve got the Speedtimer from a year or two ago. Doesn’t make sense to go in on the Timex as well…
Speedtimer is a good one 👍
"A nice vintage 2447 will set you back 3 times that." Wrong, only the panda SN and reverse panda NS (and their tachy siblings SNT/NST) will. 7k USD for non pandas is where the market floats. Also good luck even trying to get a 2447SN, they are so rarely on market you'd be lucky to see one available (regardless of condition) once every couple years.
Love both these watches.
Love the Tag, wouldn't pay that much money for it, got a Skymaster 38 (Mk2) by Maen instead. Super happy so far!
I look at it this way , the Timex, Seiko watches are a great buy for sub $700. they are just great everyday watches. Then the more expensive watches like the TG, you wear them for special occasions or if meeting new big clients or more important meetings. same with suits and shoes your not gonna rock a 5 K bespoke suit from London for a regular Tuesday at work and lunch at BJ's
Where can I get a similar band that's on the Tag for the Timex?
I went with the Dan Henry 1962. Seiko Meca-quartz, double dome ar glass, matte white dial. Looks way more expensive than $250.
Isn't this the same movement in the Falcon eye chronograph?
That TAG HEUER is a beauty. Limited release sucks. So i got the TH Glassbox reverse panda.
What is the Name of the Timex watch? Its not in the description...
The Dan Henry 1962 and 1964 have scratched my severe Heuer Carrera Chronograph itch.
Max: "I'm starting to think there is no such thing as a perfect watch." World: "Fresh take. Thanks." That aside, all modern watches are derivative of something that came before. IMO, we're better off asking the question, "Considering all the things important to me right now, do I like this watch in front of me right now?" For me, my response to a Timex is often no, but often yes. This Marlin chrono is a yes for me. So is the Carrera chrono.
Ok, Using my Tag Monaco as an example, I would never buy a cheaper look-a-like version made by someone else. I would rather buy an inexpensive watch that had its own unique look. I love that Carrera!
Well Carrera is stylish, but I can't get rid of the thought that a chronograph without tachymeter make no sense to me. So I guess I would go for the quartz Timex with design that make sense to me, if the choise was only betweens those. Good thing that I'm not on the market for a chronograph. 😁
3 Heuers here. But all 1960s, because these were my childhood years.
If the Timex were 36mm, i'd buy it right now
38
Owning many of dive watches and others, I can say that the perfect watch is probably my Hamilton Khaki Field. Suitable in all occasions with the right strap, and keeps chronometer level time.
Can't go wrong with a hammy. Just wish they had screw down crowns.
I know! My Below Zero does, but my Khaki, nope!@@WatchCrunchOfficial
@@WatchCrunchOfficial Yes! Screw down crown, better lume, and AR in the inside of the crystal.
Does the bracelet have decent weight to it?
I was down until I saw the art deco numbers at 3, 9, and 12. And though nice, the subdials look a little off in their sizing. Looks a little squint-y. But for the price whatever.
Currently looking hard at the Tag Glassbox or a Zenith. We'll see
Something about that Timex has a bit more character. Maybe its the way it looks on the bracelet, maybe its the text on the dial that make the Tag look stale in comparison. Definitely an awesome semi-vintage looking piece for a reasonable price.
I also have my “Panda” chronograph and that is the Hamilton H38416111. The best bang for the buck!
Hey Max, great review. I’m going to post it on my IG with the question of “what is the most beautiful chronograph”? Personally, I think my 2018 Omega CK2998 is the best looking ever. It follows the same formula of modernizing a classic design as your beauty is f a Heuer.
The 2998 is great, and it's a pulsometer no?
Indeed yes it is!
See @seiko_tod
1.Daytona newman
1. Speedy 321
2. Ebel El Primero Full Steel/Zenith
I only started watch collecting a couple months ago. I jumped right into the vintages (I know it is a minefield but I'm a sucker for vintage stuff). Vintage watches just look and feel different to modern ones so hearing the complaint about smaller size in vintage watch but wanting a vintage look because of history just made me scratch my head. This demand creates a vintage inspired watch that try too hard to be vintage. It will never be. To be happy one should accept the smaller vintage size and thus it will be a perfect watch for that desire.
Heuer is a very expensive $800 - $1000 watch. Timex made unbelievable strides in design and quality in the last decade. I love them.
Can where I can by the Timex I love this watch, Marlin
Who is here after the latest WatchBox collector convo, he had this watch, stunning!
It seems to be sold out everywhere, how to get one ?
I honestly don't think that if you love the look of this Heuer the Timex is going to please you as much. The Timex dial is a bit messy and lacklustre and the proportions are off. There is no sense to comparing a watch of thousands to the Timex, even if the Heuer is comfortably overpriced. The fact for me is that I left Tag Heuer to the side for a long time. Considering their pricing I will continue doing so. But recently this and another release have been undeniably excellent examples of designs. What strikes me in the footage in this video is that the quality of the Heuer can be spotted in the more distant shots as well. It really is a very good watch, and that's coming from someone who's not into its vintage forebear, nor the brand, nor chronographs
In between the Heuer and the Timex are s the Tudor Chronograph at $5,500 list. Discounts on the grey market.
This watch (this one specifically with the stainless steel dial) is like permanently sold out all the time here in Europe lol... never see it not be out of stock. Damn!
The tag is ok. Nothing i would swap my speedy for, though.
Look at a Dan Henry 1964 GT with silver dial and beads of rice bracelet. Feels and looks like you're wearing a vintage mid 60's Carrera or Seamaster chrono. (Dan nailed it for the price)
the lug of the tag are enormous ... why can't they make the same model as back then but in 38/39mm ?
Need help, how do you set gmt?
just the removal of that horrific date window alone justifies the price jump
it even has sweeping hand
I am clearly a watch junkie as I want both
A true enthusiast 👍
In what way the timex looks looks like a Heuer more than a UG Compax Nina rindt, a Daytona, or a beautiful Enicar Sherpa graph ??? It looks like a vintage Chronograph, that s all…and you have plenty of cool neo retro style chrono like the Hamilton or the Dan Henry for instance…
the marlin with metal bracelet is almost impossible to get!
I have 3 Timex watches. Problem is they can't be serviced except for the battery replacement.
And they are unbelievably loud for a quartz
QRTZ - of course it can be even lower than USD150
btw - the hour numbers shld have been remvoed
I sold most of my watches Rolex breitling… did go fast, I still have the heuer and it’s a nice one (I wanted to give it away very cheap / quality A) nobody buys it. So u just wait 5 years and u get the heuer for 1500 and u r still happy.
Every time I see video of chronograph, stop watch are always running. But that won't be the case most of the time. Big stop watch second hand will be stuck in middle of the watch face through logo and stuff and the fact that noone usually shows it just prove that they are bothered by it as well. That's my grape with chronographs. I like them but I would prefer central second hand to show a time and the small seconds to actually show the stop watch seconds.
I think it goes more in the Hamilton Pioneer direction imo.
Max, another banger of a video. Only a psycho like you would skip the average click bait and compare watch like this👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Haha, thanks my friend 🤪
@@WatchCrunchOfficialI didn't see it on WC yet
0:47 does it tell the same time? Yes
What is your wrist size?
Real question is: why the hell does Tag thing their chrono shpuld cost more than a Speedmaster Professional on a stainless steel bracelet????
Think you just hit the nail on the head mate..
😁
There is No such thing as a Perfect watch. 😉
N yes, it Is a notion or concept in our heads, formulated by our preferences, ideals, likes n dislikes... 😁
IOW, if one feels that that Timex Marlin Chrono is perfect to them... Then it is. 😁
I wasn't in the market for another watch.... Now I'm looking at the price of that Timex.....
Nothing is perfect for everyone. The challenge is to find what is perfect for oneself. That Marlin Chrono is perfect for someone.
Hey! Could you review HMT? It’s a Government of India made!
Is Panda on Jubes normal? I feel very odd here.
Is is automatic or quartz??
Wow, so Tag Heuer listened to the watch community and brought back a 60ies chronograph? Then we really need to pester Omega on a daily basis to bring back their 60ies Seamaster de Ville chronographs with the 321 caliber.
