Congrats on the catches. Nothing wrong with throwing them back from time to time.

Just a helpful hint on measuring fluke. Lay the fluke on top of the tape measure. When you place the tape measure on top (brown side) you are now adding the girth of the fluke-which will give a slightly higher measurement than the fluke actually is. It doesn’t really matter on a fluke that is obviously over 18 inches but it can make the difference if it’s around the 17 inch mark and the 18 inch mark.

Hey Andrew, I hear you. If it’s too close to call I just throw it back. You can see the measuring board I used. I usually measure from the bottom but I grabbed the old tape measure to get a second look. Measuring in the sand can be tricky because it’s uneven. Thanks for watching.

Regulations suck, but they keep the sport alive for the most part! What still blows my mind ishow you fish for anice "keeper" Fluke at 18+ inches and those damnthings can get to be 3 to 400 lbs! Lol
    Good luck Steve!

I know regulations are a pain!! Maybe flukes older brother halibut can get that big but at least around here in nj 20lbs is just about the state record. Thanks so much for stopping in!!

Always great on opening day, but you always gotta get that keeper. I suspect you may decide to hold on to it next time

Just wondering do you think early season fluke fishing from surf is better or is middle to late summer ideal. I just got into surf fishing for fluke in LBI last yr and love the fluke content, it's fun. Also are waders for this type of fishing a must cause of the colder water or is it optional when the water warms up

Hey Andrew, for the surf its a little early. I’ll start fishing the surf around June to see if anything is going on. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s earlier though this year. Waders are optional. I’ve worn them on my last few trips but I just went out yesterday and I didn’t wear them. Depends on the weather. No waders for me means summer! Thanks so much for watching!
