This made me realize that somethimes simplicity isnt all that bad. I always try to make complicated chord progresions
I feel like simplicity comes with maturity. The more you play and write, you'll realize that sometimes keeping things simple is much better and you can get your musical ideas across clearer and in a more easily consumable way if that makes sense.
@@alexanderhanksx and not only with writing also with soundesign.
The same goes with sounds. Jarre, for example. He didn't write melodies with beeps because he couldn't afford multiosc gear.
It's not the chord progressions, melodies or rhythms that need to be complicated. The complexity comes from combining these different building blocks to convey certain emotions and ideas.

Techno beat makers when they learn about voice leading
Lmaooo
yeah this isnt even a secret lmfao
"Techno beat makers"
Beatmakers?
Explain voice leading?
That really spooked me thanks for the heads up. Idk what could of happened if I wasn't ready to be scared.
Could have*
@@entx8491 could of
@@marthastewwart which makes no sense. I guess you're okay with that, cool.
Modern EDM musicians when they encounter music theory
😖😱😱😱
Modern trap producers when they hear anything music theory related
⚰️
@@NoahZarke the only thing gaeyer than reading is reading theory 🗿
@@mfThump facts
@@mfThump people are actually advising for me to go to school for music 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@mfThump as I’m in AP theory I so agree
techno never dies
I was thinking about that
First thing I thought of as I saw the title of this short
Debatable
nothing to do with vid, stfu
@@l8nghts he said techno tho 🤦♂️
keep playing each key over and over until you can hear what note will play before you press it, you will get to the point where you can hum a note and your finger will go to the correct key without you even thinking, the brain just does it. Then after that you do the same for each cord set until the same thing happens, and after that you will be able to play what ever you want.
thats the dream
yeh, im not at that point but im convinced something like that is entirely learnable. im trying to get there with guitar as well
@@rayvven6646 Its 12 keys keep pressing the keys until you can hear the note in your head before you play, then do the same for cords.
@@jochem420 One thing at a time, learn either keys or guitar, you cant learn both at the same time.
??? It’s not that hard to learn both at the same time, just takes extra practicing time in your day
i tend to "overproduce" so this really helps me take a step back and keep things simple and easy to listen to. i try to keep my music unpredictable, but not too complicated. when i over produce, i get the inverse of that. complicated and predictable. So THIS really clears my artistic canvas, if you will. LOVE ALL YOUR TIPS AND TRICKS!!! THANK YOU!
Oh so you're basically teaching us how to F A Minor
Nothing of that tune was techno, that was trance if I ever heard it.
this sounds more like trance🎉
Same I thought
You described Tiesto's entire mojo in under 60 seconds! Insane!
That's pretty neato. I kinda want that glowing synth controller though.
It’s a lumi midi controller by roli. They made the seaboard rise 1 & 2 as well which are pretty cool. Would love to own my own tbh
I need such rainbow or sth similar to play easier, I mean it would help me memorize where each sound is. Is such coloring it a preset?
thanks man
Voicing is a good way to create progression when the drums are leading
I dropped a minor turd earlier . . . It was disappointing considering all the buildup.
"Pushing the turd, one octave up" 💀
For anyone that wants to understand it better, they're basically chord inversions.
Technically, I think inversions are when you move the root, but I tend to think of it as moving any interval outside of the basic triad pattern. Don't just move thirds. You can move the root and fifth up and down octaves too.
This is also how trance tends to get those "big" supersaw sounds. They spread out the notes far and it sounds "bigger," but also makes a better mix since supersaws have a lot of harmonics.
Pushing the turd! ❤
😂
Simple chord progression, always includes a good turd!
pushing the WHAT
Read this as she said it, spat my coffee out
This made my weekend 😂
Y'all please learn music theory this is just embarrassing
what?
@@VaporSynth Ain't no secret chords, just learn the F minor scale lmao
No thanks.
Oh yes so right never noticed that but with your sound choice it's so obviously
It's not exclusive to techno, I've been using it in my trance tracks - it's really basic and would be nice to explain that the middle note change is actually switching the chord to Db Major which in this context is that magic/sad/nostalgic partner of F minor
Link? I want to listen to your trance tracks :)
It's basically just inversions, set up so only one note is changing. It works, but doesn't build any tension. Though you can view it as actually just doing a third interval and then having a melody line being played between those two notes.
@@deanolium yes, it's actually F minor on its root note and Db major in 1st inversion, both in open voicings. Kinda nice pair of chords, because they are very close together + they work well over a "pedal note" which is a technique used for a few hundred years already (starting with old organ music)
@@setoburu check out "Matt Bukovski" if you're interested. Cheers!
@@piotrbukowski9566 that got too much technical for techno lmao
A lot of the Bonzai trance coming out of Belgium late 90’s was doing this too. It’s not really a “techno” owned approach as such.
That sample sounded great at the end.
So cool!
Useful for any electronic genre too. Thank you for this!
Is that your big secret?
Trance
Hey guys, I'm wondering about the pad. Is it jsut a saw with high resonance ? how to get this choir effect ?
This is really usefull! Thank you!
Thank you as always! Alice my favourite teacher.
shit was CRANKIN!
I'm just learning how to fiddle with keys and this is very cool trick. Thank you!
amazing as always alice!!
can hear tons of song with this now
thnx
Kermit?
What is that keyboard called?
Lumi Keys by Roli
I absolutely love your chanel, the best tutorials ever.
Release this!
Ogm we found russian kermit
Don't laugh, he is transitioning, he can't help it 😬
Thank you!
Nice chords!!
Thanks Alice. Always love the brilliance of your teaching style
The "context" 😅
you remember the game "Music" from PlayStation One? Well, this is typically this "context" we created 🤣
Its not for techno only
It works with a lot of genres, obv
Did you released the song? Those harmonics sound beautiful!
Basically how to play Blinding Lights
You could put any melody over that same drum and sub arrangement, and it wouldn’t matter. Make sure to add some spoken quote about dimensions before the drop
i thoughti t was putting a 9th not raising it up an octave tf
pretty cool. the chords and effect sound great awesome
Thanks for this!
Eventually learned this on my own after decades of Messing around. Wish YT was around back then. Wonderful vid 😼
You always teach me so much! Thank you!
This is awesome
I couldn't think of any music that sounded like this
Handy, thank you!
Interesting
So get rid of note 3 and put it one octave higher. Sounds lovely!
This is amazing thank you ❤
Theory hurray, i had a look into your channel and boom. Exactly what i was looking for. Not the GAS acquesition pipeline most of the popular channels do. Really well presentet helpful topics. Awesome
So the room and 3rd notes are pedal notes, and the variety comes from the middle 🤔
thanks bro
Nice. Only complaint is the video didn’t align with the sound when the chord was played. Besides that, it was great and I learned something new.
Very helpful in trying to learn piano
Ooooo that sounded niiiiiice! Honestly, the sound on its own without the beat gives me vibes I can't explain. It's like I've heard it before in a game, movie, or even a dream! But it's totally unique, perfect in a Space themed movie or Vieri game, something like Halo!
This is called a “line cliché”
Would go great for a wall of sound prog metal production might use this
Also could have started sandstorm
Cool!
Pretty cool, but I need that sidechain cranked
old school techno producer here .... this is the simple secret for the "cool" chord sounds 👍
Is this secret chord (fm and c#)?
Let’s go!!! 💃🏽 🕺🏽
Maybe be used in trance music
that kick drum tho lol
Thanks!
Whats the name of the synthesizer? Thanks!!

Huh, I was already making chords like this.
That's fucking sick and usefull for begginers :)

Fire 🔥
what plug-in did you use if i may ask?
Cool!!
Very relaxing :)))
I'm really upset that you can't save shorts, so I'm just gonna comment so I can reference this vid in the future
Totally thought this was going to end up being Darude Sandstorm
This reminds me of sewerlvt, love your tips
Dope ❤
That's nice.
Whats programm do you use at last video seconds?
Thanks dude.
what is the name of that keyboard?
Hi, I came across this by accident, there are many secrets in everything, but it's hard to discover 🙂🙏
wow you have a roli lumi
I love you after this hehe
