there a desert boot that is why they are soft, they will start to fall to pieces on you i like these boots im om my third pair a go to them after a few months and find that the rubber around the boot becomes britle and start to break up and the sole will start to separate from the boot
I have the desert defence since a year. what a coincidence. I like them a lot. Have you tested the savotta saddle sack 339? I‘m disappointed about it. After 2 months using it for light stuff i put about 12kilogramms in it and walked about 5 km. The whole frame bended. If you look from the side on it you see the original bending on the upper back area. Now it is straight on both sides. Additionally the upper crossbar has bend so much towards the inside that it rubs against the tissue if you put a lot of stuff inside it. I think the aluminium is to weak.
I added a waist belt before ever putting to much weight in it. I also brought the bag closer to my back by loosening up the strap. Only problem so far is the limited adjustability if your tall. But no problem with the frame yet. Having said that....I didn't use it on a longer trip yet. Only day hikes and weekends (with heavy load). So I hope it holds.... Greetings Wim
@@traveler5898 My waist belt will be delivered today. But i think the belt doesn’t help the frame against bending on the weak points especially if you want to carry wood with the frame only. After i saw your upgrade video i decided to do it too. I think it will hold the pack more stable against sideways forces. Without the waistbelt after the upgrade it felt better carrying it. I don’t know when it happened but i saw the rubbed area inside and thought something is wrong. Compared to pictures on the internet i saw the change on the frame. I think 12 kg are not much weight. I didnt even take all the stuff for overnight trip. So take a look on yours from time to time. Greetings Chris
Thanks Chris, I checked but so-far everything is still as it was. But I will keep an eye on it. If i get around testing it I will include that in the video. Maybe yours is a mishap, one in a million? But still it is not supposed to bend. Wish you the best...
I had the Maindle of the previous edition, the sole fell apart, I used it at the shooting range and in the city, Meindl, it's drama and junk. I have been using AKU Pilgrim Desert for three years and I will not buy any others. Meindl, it's junk and that's it.
I don't know. I think grease or wax prolongs the live of leather. Getting them wet helps getting the leather to loosen up but when they dry the leather starts to crack.
A lilt bit at the beginning but no. You have to waterproof the leather. And the cordura is not water proof either. But it can handle a bit of water (rain) if you don't step into rivers or deep puddles after you waterproof them. No gore-tex in the liner. Greetings Wim
Thank you for the very informative video!

Can they be hydrated to prolong their life? no matter their aesthetics
What is it you want to hydrate? The leather?
@@traveler5898 yes

Collonil CarbonPro or NanoPro sprays! That's what protects, not those grandpa waxes..
is it waterproof?
