I know this video is like, nearly a year old, and so you might've figured it out at some point, but that scene with Alec shooting arrows off the roof after the Demon killed Jocelyn, if you look at his hands you can see they're bleeding. (It's also mentioned by Magnus later in the episode) Alec has always had self harming tendencies, in S1 he refused to use an Iratze on an injury and wouldn't let Magnus heal it either, and also wouldn't stop training. It's pretty much canon that when Alec is feeling bad about anything, he'll train until he hurts himself in some way. Which is why his immediate response to go to the roof in episode 8 makes sense, he already had those feelings, we already got to see them subtly, but he was always pretty good at hiding it by hurting himself in training or just not using Iratzes, while at that point he outright went to the roof because he wasn't thinking straight (not that he ever is...) and so his immediate response was to kill himself.
