The way he works with words is amazing, always. He will describe something we can all relate to, but do it in a unique (Kristofferson) way. It is interesting that youcau brought up the song 'Baby Come Back' I believe those word are the unwritten thoughts of the singer in this song, a man feeling intense heart ache.
If you want to hear a fun song by Kris, I suggest 'The Best Of All Possibl Worlds' Another song, worth a listen to is 'Silver Tongue Devil' in this song Kris compares himself sober to the drinking Kris (The Silver Tongue Devil)

Kris’s dad was an Air Force Major General; Kris was an Army Captain and Ranger-qualified as well, prior to getting into rotary-wing flight school and his assignment to Germany. Kris was disowned when he turned down a teaching assignment at West Point & resigned his commission to be a songwriter. Thus sweeping floors, and sending Johnny Cash tapes, even smuggled in by June, which Johnny says he ignored. Kris “borrowed” a helicopter as he was also flying offshore to-from rigs in the Gulf, landed on Johnny’s lawn and left him “Sunday Morning Coming Down” which became a hit and Kris won Song of the Year at the CMA’s. So that was the beginning of a life-long friendship, appearances on Johnny’s TV show, became one of The Highwaymen, etc. Besides songwriting, he acted in about 90 movies, and for the 1976 film “A Star Is Born” won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. Truly a diverse but accomplished life!

There is just something about Kris Kristopherson. He is so different than Cash, Waylon and the others but sounds just as good. It's like he is very serious about singing his songs. Or maybe it is because the songs are sad.
His smile is a huge bonus!lol
    Thanks guys!

Yes Dustin, I'm the Amelas one, pronounced "aimless"! Your choice of tunes Keith is very special to me. It was my soulmates favorite Kristofferson song. Libby passed in August of 2009. We shared the birthdate of April 2 but I was one year older than her. She had a granddaughter born on our birthday! We weren't married, we wanted to stay friends always and did.
The bottle said Texas and Kris was born there, many of my favorites came from or went to Texas. (Think Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, ZZ Top, SRV and on). Amelas stopped drinking in 1983, I had to stop smoking cigarettes to stop the whiskey. I miss them both but don't trust me. Whiskey triggered drugs and messed lives up.
Kris was a ranger too and the floor sweeping was done with a purpose in mind, it was the studio Cash recorded at. Kris wrote Sunday Morning Coming Down with Johnny in mind. Kris didn't think he himself could sing at the time. Johnny Cash made the delay mistake and required Kris to get the helicopter. It's very possible that " Loving Her Was Easier " was written with Janis Joplin in mind and not my Libby. The time frame match closely.
If you want a non-sad Kris tune, I'll tell you a fact Keith. Kris could sing his songs only, for two and a half hours or more nonstop. I'll save you the trouble or pleasure as I see it. You have a show to do, I don't. The Silver Tongued Devil album is a great place to start, some fine stories on it! The song the album is named after is a great starting place.
    Amelas

You guys would love his song 'Silver tongued devil and I' or 'Help me make it through the night' aren't sad. 'For the good times' I 'Why Me, Lord?' are great too. I'm sure you already know he wrote 'Me & Bobby McGee' & also released it. Janice Joplin isn't the only one & I love his version too. He is 87 now & just put his 550-acre ranch in California up for sale. Apparently, he is facing his final days & wants to make things easier for his kids. So sad. I love his music & his movies. My fav is 'A star is born' with Barbra Streisand is a classic! Also, don't forget he was in the group 'The Highwaymen' with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson. He wrote lots of songs that others recorded, Like Johnny & Waylon & Carly Simon & Jerry Lee Lewis, to name a few. Not a one trick pony.

Thanks for the reaction to a great singer and song writer. One of his later albums "Closer To The Bone" (2009) had some songs that were more reflective than depressing. Perhaps the title song "Closer To The Bone" or "From Here To Forever". I don't think they were big hits but still some great work on his part.

When Kris decided to leave the military, which mean leaving a West Point posting as an instructor and pursue music, he lost all his family. His parents never forgave him, even when he became famous in music and film. I have always felt that some of that sadness is in all his music. Even when he was around the family he made for himself. Which included the Cashs, Willy and Waylon and others. As far as sweeping floors, he took that job to meet Johnny.. but it was June Carter that started talking to him first.

Waylon Jennings recorded several songs written or co written by Kristofferson including a superior version of this song which was a hit for Waylon in 1971. I'd bet that Kristofferson would agree with that. One great example is the song 'The Taker' written by Kristofferson and Shell Silverstein and was on the Waylon Jennings album The Taker along with this song.
