Hello! Did you know I recently released a 97-page book titled The Neocaridina Shrimp Handbook? I have a 10-gallon ecosystem tank and I put 6 Red Cherry shrimp in it. I absolutely love them! The are always doing something. Very active. They are a magnificent beginner shrimp!
Glad I've found your channel! When I get a place of my own, I'm going to set up a freshwater aquarium. I'm coming into this hobby as a first time rookie so I'm doing as much research as possible before I take the plunge - pun intended. I'm going to gear my tank around neon tetras as they're my favourites, but I want them to have companions and shrimps are the target ones. This video was really educational for which species to look at. 😀👍
be sure to drip acclimate shrimp, I bag acclimated around 10 ghost shrimp and nine of them died within the first month. I then researched just a bit more and found out that the best way to acclimate shrimp is via drip acclimation, and what do you know? I added new shrimp, but drip acclimated them and not one of them has died.
Set up a separate container for them with some of their transport water, slowly drip tank water into it until the water is mostly tank water. This allows them to adapt slowly to the changes, sort of weans them off of the mystery shipping liquid. (Shipping water is pretty empty but can carry issues from the shop the shrimp came from)
Been going through your videos.. 🙂. so glad i was still able to get a free ebook from the link in the description. I bit surprised though that not more people clicked on it yet.

I'm new to fish keeping and I bought 3 ghost shrimp from PetSmart and all of them died in 5 days. They were in a 55 gallon tank with only a few fish. I'm guessing the tank wasn't cycled yet. I know it's cycled now and heavily planted. I went to go buy some tonight but they didn't have any. So I guess I will go with those cherry shrimp you recommend. I just want some for house keeping.
The transparent or semi transparent shrimp like ghost shrimp and Amano look like little water fairies under natural sunlight swimming around in the water column, They have iridescent qualities that probably aren't as apparent under artificial light...!
All of your ghost shrimp pictures are pictures of Whisker shrimp aren’t they? I thought ghost shrimp had orange rings on their legs/whiskers. And are much smaller. I have a whisker shrimp, thought it was a ghost shrimp too 😅
i soon want to start my first shrimp tank. i was thinking about maybe just red cherries, but do amanos make for good neighbor? i like how they are a little bigger in size and the fact they dont reproduce is even a plus in my book in the sense i just want to add like 2 of them to spice things up a little between the red cherries.
I have a ghost shrimp they keep dying for some reason. I have crustacean food but they never eat it. Only time they did was when I gave them frozen blood worms
Loved the Vid but is a petty you did not talk about size... Im looking for the smaler one that doesn't grow much and remains tiny for my big nano tank project
im planning to get shrimp, i wanted a ghost shrimp because as you said, they are pretty good, and don't need special needs. but i would like to know if a ghost shrimp being paired with big bully goldfish was a good idea.. i also have some cannibal snails that eat each-other. if the ghost shrimp is in danger in that tank i might just hold back on getting them. I'm afraid if one of them gets eaten. 😅
Hi. The snails will be fine with the shrimp, however, I suspect the fact that you use the words ‘big’ and ‘bully’ means your goldfish will eat the shrimp 😩
Do you use driftwood in your tank or other items that alter pH over time? Shrimp are highly sensitive to pH changes in water, so if your tank isn't stable, that could be the reason. If your water is stable but alkaline or acidic, that's a problem too. They need very neutral water.
I bought two ghost shrimp. The first one died within 24 hours and the other one died a few weeks or Sum later. I thought they were so cool (and expensive) so I was sad they had passed away…
My shrimps keep on dying? I think it’s because I’m not acclimating them right so I’ll get a drip acclimating kit, but the parameters are all good, ph 7.6, nitrite and ammonia is 0 and nitrate is 0, I have a betta but he had tank mates in the past and never bit or ate them, so he’s calm, I’ve had snails too but they keep on dying as well..
You can but peeling them takes forever. Yesterday I sat down to eat lunch and thought I'd have a shrimp sandwich with about 4 oz of meat and I am almost done now, but it's time to go to bed again. I think I might need better tweezers also.
@@sunworksco from what I know they serve saltwater shrimp and they are huge compared to these hobby freshwater shrimp (talking 20x). Also you kinda look like Tim Dillon lol

Sounds like a good enough reason to me 🤔
Let’s go! Have you gotten them yet?
@@jimothyj2638 I will have shrimp by June!
Yes! Have you got them yet?
I had a dream I had $500 extra unexplained every month... And it turns out I just need to buy 6 shrimp for around $6.80 total and then wait

Amano shrimp hands down…voracious eaters of all types of algae and very hardy.
Great info, Thanks 🐸

It's probably good to have one of r two messy fish with shrimp for perfect combination

Fine video; curious about temperature ranges and tolerance to winter cold - any cold tolerant species?
Neocaridina shrimp, such as Red Cherry shrimp can easily go down to 18 DegC (65 DegF) and probably lower 👍🏻
Thank you I had received the ebook for free
You are very welcome. I hope you find it useful. Richard 🦐
Are there any difficult Neocaridina to take care of? I was thinking they’re all the same. Mainly carbon/blue rillis. Would be a great video !

Amano’s are amazing shrimp. They are practically indescribable and they work well with Red Cherry Shrimp 👍🏻
How do you keep them from not getting sucked up on the intake filter?
Use an intake sponge 👍🏻
When you mix a a different colored shrimp will they interbreed?
Yes. You typically end up with a colony of grey, clear or brown shrimp 😏
I have a ghost shrimp they keep dying for some reason. I have crustacean food but they never eat it. Only time they did was when I gave them frozen blood worms
i have a colony of 300+ neocaridina species in my 20 gallon myself

Sir can shrimp live with guppies?
Definitely. I have a colony of yellow shrimp with 5 yellow male guppies 😍

I've killed ghost shrimp so many times......but my other fish have still thrived.... Make that make sense!! 😅

If I buy 3 different types of shrimp and have them live together will they survive?
They will certainly survive, they might just crossbreed 😎
I think I can only keep caridina shrimp... my water is quite soft.
Cardinia shrimp love soft water. However, it’s much easier to increase the hardness of soft water than the other way around 👍🏻
I can’t find any shrimp farm and the links don’t work

How many should I get to start off with?
At least 10 👍🏻

did you drip acclimate or just temperature acclimate? drip acclimation can be the difference between shrimp living and dying.
