THIS is the right tempo ! yuja so smart deep and gorgeous !! at this real adadio you can hear all of ravely amazing subtle harmonic genius touches ,,god its so beautiful !!
More than Yuja Wang being one of the world’s greatest pianists, her interpretations strike me most. Some of the pieces she plays are completely of a different style, but no matter what she plays, the composer is represented in the best possible way. However, this piece provides a setting like no other. It’s magical, as if one sees the good shaping the world, but its risks and downsides as well. The change one wants to see, the efforts they will make, it’s all there. More than that, it’s as if one is in peace meditating during all this time. Most people would say it the opposite, but if you think Ravel is beyond brilliant by a lot, Yuja Wang is at the same level. This is one of my favorite concerto movements!
I have a great interest in, and a pretty extensive knowledge of, classical music. The reason for this is that, 30 years ago, I happened to stumble upon this very movement.
The second movement is perfect in terms of what is "classical": perfect balance between emotions and structure. Even Mozart could have been proud about it. Yuja played it in this classical sense - deepest emotions but never sentimental and with classical lightness. Divine. Could music be more beautiful?
This is the most beautiful adagio movement I know of. Italian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli owns this concerto. Yuja sure comes close. If you like this movement then check out ABM.
+Stanton Swafford I agree with you that ABM is awesome, but I think Martha Argerich owns this concerto. I have listened to her and ABM side by side many times and I have to give it to her, ABM is hands down my favorite pianist.
We are blessed to have favorites. From those who reach back to Liszt as a comparison to those who prefer Argerich or Benedetti and Ott. Each has her and his interpretation of a concerto that another has mentioned he discovered in Yuja Wang's interpretation. I remain in awe of woman with the depth of musician she has and ponder the joys ahead for what I trust will be a long and productive career that has already reached pinnacles others only dream of.
Yuja does it again. Not too loud not too fast. A rendition full of nostalgia, creamy beauty, dreamy, loud enough to be perceived. I think Ravel would be enthralled as I am. The only rendition it can be compared with is Martha Argerich's, although she plays a little bit faster. Amazing musical sensibility, this girl has.
To me this is a summer night song, when the air is cool, and you can smell the damp grass. A skyful of stars gradually tilted towards the horizon and poured into a still, dark lake...
Ludovico Einaudi would love to have composed something like this, if he had talent and a soul LOL. But maybe he makes money every time he gets played when your call's put on hold, and when you're in an elevator.
This is the longest piano solo I have seen Yuja played. Where is the orchestra? This is the 2nd movement and there is no hint of jazz here. Is this a Ravelian slow waltz? Who said Yuja cannot play slow tempo? Indeed, a very slow flowing melody, and I am not sure if this is suited for her given her fast finger reputation. Pardon me for saying, but I almost lost interest with this long winding melody. When will it end already? But, you have to give her credit for being able to hold her musical breath for such a long stretch, and do it flawlessly. In fact, the melody seems to flow naturally without end in sight or towards a specific point. Until, at 6:15 when there is a change in dynamics and the melody comes down a bit leading to the end with a high note. I am going to make an outlandish claim here. This is a perfect summer song. The sun is out and the beach is a walking distance and, so I am going to get a tan with this slow Ravelian waltz accompanying my readings. Who knows, I might even have a summer fling to remember by.
I dislike intensely the missing of the beat that so many "artists" are attempting to make us fall into. Time is right not adjustable. Everything is just offfffff. WRONG!
What exquisite music there is in the world and how privileged are we to hear it from a brilliant pianist.
One of the most beautiful sounds I ever heard.
When I heard this, can't distinguise how all the sadness and hapiness in the world mixes in just few moments
melancholy, bittersweet, innocent
What a beautiful piece and performance. So peaceful and happy. The world disappeared for 9 min, 21 seconds…Thank you!
If only life were always as beautiful as this...
Ah...exquisite beauty. Yuja Wang is a purveyor of such beauty, The grace that flows from her hands is incredible.
Adore Yuja Wang's interpretation of this movement of the Ravel! We follow her performances faithfully! A dear, love the interviews in Israel!
this is absolutely beautiful...........
9 and a half minutes of pure bliss.
THIS is the right tempo ! yuja so smart deep and gorgeous !! at this real adadio you can hear all of ravely amazing subtle harmonic genius touches ,,god its so beautiful !!
She has a lovely, soft touch. Fabulous!
possibly the most beautiful music ever composed. technique + soul = perfection.
Takes my breath away, Yuja and Ravel, great combination. The gown fits the music.
Yuja Wang’s playing is so exquisite. She places just the right amount of emotions in Ravel’s profoundly deep music.

no one asked
My favorite Ravel played by my favorite pianist :)
Yuja is, as always, charming and articulate in a post-performance interview run by NHK.
absolument magnifique !! j'adore ce mouvement, Merci !!
Utterly sublime thank you
Damn, this beauty made me cry.
This music..... 😭 Many thanks to Ravel and Yuga Wang.
So beautiful, so patient, and then... a soft shaft of light streams through at 8.13
Never heard this piece before, so peaceful and relaxing, beautifully played here by Yuja Wang.
I have a great interest in, and a pretty extensive knowledge of, classical music. The reason for this is that, 30 years ago, I happened to stumble upon this very movement.
Perfection in performance. Hauting. Never ever leaving when you have heard it.
Very moving
Love this pianist
Can't wait to attend her next performance of these Ravel concerti this fall 2023.
Fantastic performance !
Gilles-Marie Zimmermann
Yuja Wang an excellent pianist! She can play softly or at high speed.
Gorgeous !

Yuja played it in this classical sense - deepest emotions but never sentimental and with classical lightness. Divine. Could music be more beautiful?
Mozart's music has none of the power and passion of this. Mozart's work is old fashioned and gutless.
Beautiful
Magnificent.
Yuja Wang 💖💖💖💖💖💖
what a beauty omg
God bless you, Yuja
This is the most beautiful adagio movement I know of. Italian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli owns this concerto. Yuja sure comes close. If you like this movement then check out ABM.
Wow,
ABM just Wow, but also love Alice Sara Ott and Lorin Maazel. Yuja (
+Stanton Swafford I agree with you that ABM is awesome, but I think Martha Argerich owns this concerto. I have listened to her and ABM side by side many times and I have to give it to her, ABM is hands down my favorite pianist.
You're right. Michelangeli AND Yuja are the best.

Yuja, Yuja, Yuja, EMOCIONANTE!!!!!!!!!
Oh Yuja Magical WOW
unbelievable...
And can you imagine, that this Genius left our world saying, "actually I have not written anything of important value" !!!!
Did he really say that? Can you imagine. This music makes my life so rich.
He must’ve felt such a longing such a longing
she is ……not human……goddess of music

oh. totallly new interpretation

And, imo, a little better
Beautiful phrasing from the clarinet player ... hope he sees this !

OMG... Je suis sans mots.
Linda interpretação!
I agree Flavio..sound..music and sound..
Bravo to the English Horn as well.
Yuja
how can someone 'conceive' of a piece like this (or hold all these elements in one's mind)?
hum que c'est bon ...
Megumi Noda!!
I thought about that anime too. Somehow I don't think Ms. Wang is going to have quite the lack of confidence that Noda would havew.
can we still write any music after that ...
Ludovico Einaudi would love to have composed something like this, if he had talent and a soul LOL. But maybe he makes money every time he gets played when your call's put on hold, and when you're in an elevator.

...she is, first and foremost, a musician...
and here I'm sitting and wishing they would play it even 10-20% slower
I think Michelangeli and Celibidache version is pretty much better...
YOUR oppinion !
I think so.
@@francisco2591 I agree!
I dislike intensely the missing of the beat that so many "artists" are attempting to make us fall into. Time is right not adjustable. Everything is just offfffff. WRONG!
too fast for my liking
This is beyond music
A little too slow
I agree
