Kia Ora, Greeting from across the ditch. I just picked up an Aussie HRU 214, and I am struggling to find a gearbox repair kit for it. Please , where did you get your kit from?
Great Video , I just buy used HRB216 and lady said needs cable , so upon inspection at home im finding that all cables are fine and adjusted ok , what ive found is with trans engaged Pulley and axel wont turn , the pulley turns if i rotate blade , so its not engaging , Ive never worked on these and im not sure whats wrong and will i Need to remove trans and take apart as you have to get inside , now i see why it was sold cheap tho i want to get trans working do to living on a hill you need self propelled mowers , thanks for any advice
Hi, Sorry I'm not much help, yours is a later model that came out after I sold my business, I believe it is the three speed gearbox, nothing wrong with removing it to rebuild or alternatively purchase a second hand box, Ive seen a few advertised..
Very helpful video! I did have a question about the needle bearing replacement. How did you remove and install the bearing? Any special tools needed? I believe the bevel pinion gear is traveling too far in when engaging the drive clutch which is causing the grinding sound within the transmission case. I replaced the cable and it did not help. I will also try filing down the aluminum and adding a washer to see if they will help. Thank you!
So sorry, very slack late reply, been traveling lately... You will need to make up a tool to remove the needle roller bearing, I used a full thread 5/16 bolt with the head shaved a bit, place a large washer on the outside, fit nut and turn with spanner to pull out, I would think a small thrust washer like you mentioned would help too
When I pulled mine apart the gears on the main drive shaft had no gap in between them like yours. I cut the smaller gears weld and re welded onto the bush goes fine now
no, it doesn't require servicing, gear oil is for the life of the box, only thing is that it sometimes minor cable adjustment as the cables can stretch a little..
Not sure on the 216 as I think you would have the 3 speed box? which came out after I retired. Basically check to see if the drive shaft is ok and turning the gearbox shaft, check the the Dog Ratchet in both wheels are engaging ok (common problem) apart from that are your cables ok (not seized) and connected. From here you may have to remove the Gearbox for inspection..best suggestions I can give you without seeing your mower.
I have HR214 that looks very similar to the HRU214. How did you get the adjuster arm brackets removed from the trans shaft? I couldn't do it, so I ended up just breaking and removing the safety shield holding bracket so that I can raise the top trans cover up higher. You can see what I'm talking about at 9:28 mark on this video ruclips.net/video/_DmaEllKFU8/видео.html
Usually not a problem, clean the shaft with a buff and some emery paper, lightly oil and the bearing should slide off ok, I would also replace the hanger bearings as they do wear out quickly. PS Good Video!
Sorry to contact both of you, but I'm looking everywhere. Do either of you have an instruction manual for an Australian-made HRU215 M that I could please buy a photocopy or scan of? I would really appreciate any help in getting a copy of this. Many thanks.
Thanks for posting that! Just picked up an old HRU215 with the two speed and I am determined to get it working again.

Great, so many repair shops don't bother to fix, just replace the box at owners expense
Where did you get the gear box repair kit from please?
Great video, is that gear box serviceable?
no, it doesn't require servicing, gear oil is for the life of the box, only thing is that it sometimes minor cable adjustment as the cables can stretch a little..
Can you change gear when moving? Assuming just disengage drive and shift then re-engage.
Usually best to disengage first as the gear is under load
Hi looking at a newer Hru 216 self propelled not working, what test can I do on the gear box, turn axles? Thanks in advance

Where did you buy the roller bearing and oring from?
Bearing Services, but any bearing company should be able to supply, it is a standard size.
