I don't know many of the places you take us to but this time is an exception, we stayed in the cottage next to Stainsby Mill (excellent volunteer guides) and walked up Mill Lane as far as it went, didn't venture any further - wish I had now!!!!! Thanks Ant for filling in the rest of it👍👍👍
Thanks Ant another set of paths and cycle routes I knew very well. Shame about the fly tipping, but all in all it looked the same as I remember it. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
Fascinating little exploration. I was up there earlier in the year visiting Hardwick Hall & Stainsby Mill. The mill particularly is an absolute delight & well worth a visit.
Another brilliant video with lots of interesting insights to features seen. I'm from Bolsover and walked around places in this video with mates when we were growing up in the 60s, both pre and post M1 opening. Not that it matters but 'Palterton' is pronounced the same (i.e. 'Polterton') as in the 'River Poulter' and 'Poulter Well Lane', after which the village is named (or vice versa).
Great video again Ant. Very local to me in Chesterfield. Looking forward to the next one adn any ones you do on the old Chesterfield line let me know and I'll drop down and join you on a stretch. Cheers.
Very nice Victoriana bridge and not so nice concert culvert. Very bad underfoot, snow looks better on a Christmas card in my experience 😅. Thanks for the video stay safe 👍
The old heath church is a lovely little place i don`t know what is happening to the house across from it its been empty a while now. Great video looking forward to more. 👍👍👍
@@johnm-wv6bo Oh that's very kind. It's a really interesting story. I looked into a lot of these old medieval villages, and there are loads around Derby. Unfortunately they've basically been built on, so nothing to see. ASDA in Sinfin was a village, and Willington Powerstation was actually a medieval village called 'Potlocks'. All gone now, but the new estate there is actually called 'The Potlocks'. Amazing history around here.
Hs2 was originally planned to plough through that abandoned house and the church ruins, it would also cut off both the entrance and exit to Hardwick Hall.
You can still smell the old coalite place when it rains and the wind is in the right direction over at clowne. I do like how they have cleaned the site up from what it was but i think it will be many years before the lingering smell will disappear.
There's an even better old lamppost on the other side of Church Lane where the road is up to Twin Oaks, they were cottages for the old Ramcroft colliery, the lamppost is on the entrance to the colliery Regarding the derelict house near the old Heath church, one of the Roly Poly's lived in that a few years ago.
Junction 29 is just 'up the road' from where we are! Ant could have called in for a coffee after filming! I think there are stories of ghosts in the vicinity of the junction. Now we know that it's just Ant out doing one of his videos!
Sorry to add a second comment, but my husband paid particular attention to Ant's comments about the Doe Lea, its pollution and Coalite. He used to have to cross over the Doe Lea to get to Staveley and he says the Doe Lea was 'black and dead', but it was the awful smell that he remembers most of all. Another great video, and I am amazed at the speed with which Ant responds to comments. Incredible!
@MelanieRuck-dq5uo add as many comments as you wish to. I do try to reply 🙂 I remember in 2019 when I walked the old railway past bolsover it certainly stunk like creosote
If you look closely at the bridge, you can see ww ll either prisoners of war or I believe Canadian/ American solders names inscribed along the top of the walls. The turning section you mentioned was actually the road past Twin Oaks hotel / ( Ram Croft collery houses) to Palterton . The old house was where my doctor lived . Unfortunately theres a sad story to that goes along with this house , which i won'tgo into on here .
Is that the bridge on the old Mill Lane. If there are names there I'm sure they'd be names of the Airborne soldiers based at Hardwick Camp. That would be Dr Singh you mention.
the person responsible was the transport minister at the time who also had contruction companies so not only was he responsible for the moterways and the beeching report also in his interest. he was found out later and fled to momaco
What a fabulous video. Everywhere looks so beautiful with the snow.. a very wonderful area. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care

Another very interesting and beautiful video Ant. Especially if you ignore the fly tipping!
It is an interesting and quiet picturesque area. Thank you for watching 🙂
Thank you, driven round there many times and never knew that existed!

Thanks for that video, Ant. There us a road like that near me, Star Lane that is now not a through road.

I quite like the 3D "doe lea" word sculpture that appears and disappears as you approach it from the motorway junction.
Yes it's rather unique isn't it?

I didn't realise about this - There must be 100's of Roads along the entire length of the M1 (& other Motorways) which has been 'cut off'!!! 😉🚂🚂🚂
Yes it's quite interesting isn't it?

Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall!
Ant, so much history---so little time. You sure have a nose for sniffing out interesting bits of history that others overlook.
Chuff me, you've finally got to Heath. How the chuff have i missed you when I walk these lanes regularly ?
Ha ha this was done on Wednesday last week

Ernest Marples. Tory MP for Wallessy.
Even old abandoned roads are interesting !! … Were the circular tunnels built for their strength ?
Probably these with sprayed concrete. www.armco.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/MP200-HORSE-SHOE-ARCH-MOZAMBIQUE.jpg
Am I right in believing that the girls from Stainsby love the Rolling Stones? 😎
Mo Moreland aka "the Mighty Atom" of the dance group the Rolly Pollies once lived in the big empty house overlooking junc 29
I volunteer at Stainsby Mill and old Mill Lane is used as a 'meeting' place nowadays, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more!!
Ha ha thats something that did cross my mind
Fly-tipping. Why ?????????
Pathetic isn't it. Thank you for watching
The old 617 coming up to motorway there was a man killed by a truck that was delivering produce for the motorway
oh no thats very sad :(
