*This tragedy should be used to unite us in an effort to make things better.*
I'm appalled that many comments are designed to divide and blame certain political parties. The failure here is great, there are lessons to be learned by all.
The accused was banned from having any weapons but was released on bail under the condition that he not leave his home. His court appearance was set for 9 months later. So...
    - We need more judges to reduce the backlog, 9 months is a long time for someone who may be dangerous to be out, but until proven guilty....
    - If he threatened a Police officer while having an illegal gun, is bail really the best we can do? Should he not have had a mental evaluation to determine if he was dangerous?
    - Should there not be checks to insure he was abiding by the bail conditions?
    - Almost 4 months passed since he failed to appear for his court date, were enough resources available and used to respond to what should have been an alarming development?
    - Can we not afford monitoring anklets or the like for people who are deemed dangerous?
    - So, how did he keep getting guns? We need to crack down on illegal guns and gun trafficking.
    - Because we are "better than the US" we think we don't have a gun problem. After the US (which is about 3 to 4 times worse per capita in gun crime), Canada is the worst among all developed countries, every country in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, all have only a fraction of the shootings that we have.
Liberals, Conservatives, the NDP, they have all failed us on these issues. Some have advocated and made some progress on some issues while opposing progress on others. In general all the parties have more members who want to be seen as doing something rather than actually looking at the statistics, talking to police and coming up with real efforts for improvement. If a good case can be made for changes that will make a difference then we must all pressure the politicians to enact those changes.

Very good points and I agree to your solutions... the problem is that many (if not all) of these HAVE been brought up....especially as of late to Trudeau and Mendicino... and they REFUSE to seriously listen / act on them. Not sure why. Police chiefs, police associations, First Nations, firearms experts, fish and game clubs, previous gang members, psychologists, etc etc... all say current methods aren't working and will make no difference...yet Trudeau and the Liberal party (especially) don't listen. They just focus on removing legally obtained guns from society and don't seriously put funding towards the things you mention above.

Drove through Hagersville on the weekend... saw all the blue ribbons. Made me sad, then angry. Totally unnecessary. Trudeau Liberals and their failed policies and leftist ideals are to blame...

Actually the ones who are to blame are the previous Harper Conservatives who lifted the strict gun registration laws in Canada and celebrated with a cocktail party afterwards!...And as far as the leftists are concerned, again the First Prize goes to none other than this Harper guy who sold out Canada to them behind our backs via the FIPA agreement and locked the next seven Canadian Governments into it until 2045 when it expires!....If it ever will!

@@23644 ...."Turdo" has offered his Condolences on Twitter to his family!...It was broadcasted in the News so stop lying and don't think for once that the Conservatives will be winning any elections anytime soon by lying and slandering Trudeau!..In fact, they will be earning him even more votes without even realizing it!

@@damontsekos9406 Wrong. Again, here we see gun owners being scapegoated. The Liberals have been doing nothing BUT restricting access to guns ... starting in 2020 with their ascinine `AR ban'. And not surprisingly, gun violence has gone UP. Why? Because its all drama and virtue signaling! Criminals don't use rifles... they don't use `ARs'... and don't get their illegal guns from law-abiding gun owners homes! Rifles are simply too big, awkward, and too hard to conceal. And the registration process is so strict they don't know which homes have guns. Besides, its far more easy to pick one up off the street than go risk breaking into a home, that now has alarms, cameras, networked security, dogs, etc. They use handguns smuggled in from the states. It has been proven and almost all police forces and experts agree. But the Liberals just keep pushing their BS anti-gun agenda and using the general populaces ignorance of the firearm situation and firearm laws to fool people into supporting them. They treat people like you as a fool, and use you to accomplish their agenda to get total unfettered control. Its that simple.

Francesco Villi was a "legal" gun owner and we've seen his "accomplishments" at that condo building in Vaughan!...Gabriel Wortman was also a "legal" gun owner and we've also seen his "accomplishments" in N.S. as well as Faisal Hussain...Another "legal" gun owner and we've also seen his "accomplishments" on the Danforth!...We also see what happens in the U.S. every so often by "legal" gun owners!

RIP to the fallen OPP officer that was murdered by liberal policy allowing repeat violent offenders out on bail HUNDREDS of times without recourse or consequence. It's a real shame liberals believe a criminals life is more important than the general law abiding citizens and people who serve those communities.
