Shunryu Suzuki Roshi "To stop your mind (to let the mind be silent) does not mean to stop the activities of mind. It means your mind (sentience) pervades your whole body." page 41 "Zen Mind, Beginner Mind" Letting everything settle to the level of bodily felt sensation can give us a global sensation of the entire body. This we can call the beginning of presence. Simple presence that is associated with the physical body but over time can reveal that it is not limited to the physical form in fact simple presence is non-phenomenological. In a sense we learn to arrive where the body already is. At first we learn whole body awareness then we may eventually discover that awareness is not limited to the form of the body. This form of the body is only given to us as an experience or appearance due to the outer six senses. If we 'drop in' and allow a felt sense of simple presence, we are opening to and being receptive to presence which can reveal itself to include the appearance of the physical form and also not necessarily be limited to the form. The body appears as form but in its more subtle aspect it is presence; it is the matrix of all divine possibility that to the outer senses appears in form here in this world we know as a world of separate bodies. However we may may discover that 'this world' is what appears to the mode of our perception that is developmental and we have implicitly learned that tells us: "I am 'in here' in this separate body and everything else is 'out there' as a world I see as all sorts and sizes of separate bodies including other people as well as all objects including such bodies as the sun, moon and galaxies etc.

Develop any new skills or habits. More than a couple of times in the early 60's I had Sunday school teachers, even school teachers warning against meditation, because an empty mind is the devil's playground.. sort of like the old trope "idle hands are the devil's workshop". Yoga was a big no-no.. almost blasphemy. They didn't like any notions that might rival wordy prayer and "the gospel". They were definitely trying to counter the counterculture.

We have composed “existence” in our own experience into but a tapestry of signs. Think of the word “fun”… what is “fun”? Was it the experience? Or was it how you remember it as? Or is “fun” an emotional construct of the mind? What is a word as simple as “fun”? Is there a true way to define it, relative to reality? All definitions are ever-complicating signs, used to describe a word. And so, by constantly defining a definition, you end up with nothing but signs. Something that does not exist. Something that cannot be comprehended as “real”…

No one can stop or control thought.
Thought is a metaphoric stream to tune into.
Thought is energetic with either polarity.

When you sleep, your mind is not at rest. Your conscious mind is, and your subconscious mind never rests, except when you're dead.

It's not so much thinking itself that is the problem, it's the nature of the thoughts that can be. Thinking and being connected to reality can be mutually inclusive events:)

That is interesting, I feel tho too as if in some ways we don't think enough or we are far more distracted by what we r subjected to, or subject ourselves to through a societies pressures , or from personal lineage .. so much so wherever u are . May hinder us to where we can't see the truths of the world ..
