It is worked over any even number of single crochet plus one for the edge stitch. Begin with two rows of color A (white in this example), then do two rows of color B (Blue here). The next row is color A. Do sc, spike stitch (you insert the hook 2 rows below to do that and there are other tutorials just on that), repeat, end with a single crochet. One more plain row of A. Then you'll repeat the sequence.

Thanks for the video. I admit to stopping watching a time before because there were no verbal instructions, but this time I felt more patient, and watched it a few times. People do seem to be upset about not having a voice over, but you can't be all things to all people. As a viewer, if you need to have verbal instructions, then you need to find a video with that format. This is what this youtuber is offering. People learn in different ways, and this is fine for visual learners. Thanks for the instructions. This is just the stitch I needed for a new project.

Thanks for sharing. You forced me to watch every second of your video. That proves my love for this pattern is true. It's actually a very simple pattern. It's just single crochet with 2 colours and a bit twist of the single crochet in the main colour. I'm going to make it for my upcoming baby. ❤️❤️

Looks like even number of chain +1 Two rows of 1st color, 2rows of 2nd color then every other is a long single crochet.

I’m wondering if there a way to incorporate a stripe of different texture or crochet into a stockinette stitch to avoid it curling. I never remember to add selvage stitches at the end/beginning of every row

Usually the waffle stitch is worked over 4+1
This is not waffle stitch. Waffle stitch is deeply textured, and looks/feels like waffles. This looks pretty flat to me.

Pattern is called spike stitch done in even number for foundation. I dug around RUclips to figure it out
