Sony actually thought they could get away with a stunt like this. What a joke of a company they've become
Implying they weren’t already with their wokeness, data breach record, etc.
Since PS3 years - where SONY started aggressively grew in America - its gotten extremely bad.
I cant even count up all the BS they pulled since then - as also i think its the worst Tech Company what Userbase leaks belong in existence.
🏴☠️ every single player game ever from Sony from here on out
f*** around and find out at what the PC community is about
have a cup of tea of Liberty
Still have to boycott them.
Why u still talking smack they already walked the problem back lmao i swear people still be mad even if u fix the problem
Sony will never regain trust back from PC players
while this is a win, i wouldn't be so sure about that mark my words in the future they will try again and there will be a game that will succeed
Why choose pc if you trust the big 3
Ea, ubisoft, xbox: REALLY!
And you’re saying that after all the wokeness and hackings/data breaches from before, they still had any?
They don't care about pc players and why should they
"Still learning what's best for PC fans?" It's simple. Leave them the f&$% alone. The same can be said for gamers in general.
Black Rock cannot accept that.
Honestly I think I'd be more brutal: "Not having to deal with your history of taking a laissez faire approach to keeping customers' data safe." Even if they tried leaving gamers alone, their history there is pretty much poison.
When every single game company is used to kicking the customer around because they've always felt they had no option other than their shitty plastic box.
A lot of people, including myself, grew up with a console, and then one day decided "Fuck this, fuck you, I'm going to PC" and once you as a game publisher, console seller, or whoever else in this industry lose that battle, you've lost the war with that person. They will always look at you with suspicion because you're the reason they left for PC in the first place, and PC offered them virtually limitless choice, option, and freedom to do as they wish with their games.

Banning 177 countries from playing this game was a bad idea. This should have never happened. It’s good to hear the change.
Steam removed the game from 177 countries not Sony, and those countries the people could not get a PSN account. And in some of those countries you have to buy a PS5 to get a PSN account.
Steam/valve stepped up and likely threatened Sony with refunds for all Helldivers purchases in the 177 countries.
I think that's why Sony backed down, not us review bombing the game
@@flakcannon722 The attention the issue got is entirely thanks to the community.
@@flakcannon722 the countries are still banned as of this reply.
@@GoatzombieBubba We do nerd math. There's officialy ~190 countries. 69 countries have PSN connection.
Roughly, it's 121 countries that can't use PSN.
And if we take 177 restricted countries, we get... *13-15 countries that can actually buy the game.*
I still don't trust Sony to not try forcing a PSN link to your account silently in a few months. The announcement reads very lawyerish with double speak. They still have censored Stellar Blade.
If they try to do that (stealthily especially), it will be a solid ground for a class action lawsuit on behalf of customers from 170 countries that can’t have one.
you should trust no company , ever
It would be the end of them to try that especially with the 170+ countries that dont have psn access that lawsuits and legal troubles would bury them. Especially EU consumer protection I hear they are savage when it comes to that and show no mercy.
Dont think Sony has enough $$ to fight over 200 countries all at once.
@@ShadiC636 welcome to the arbitration clause you agreed to.
Sony will probably do it for future games but they are absolutely in a corner with anything released right now. Ghost of Tsushima dev just announced they will also not require linking. I'd imagine not long after that it will be a launch requirement for new games on PC.
Sony probably lost a ton of money on refunds and PSN cancellations. But at least they walked it back. Meanwhile Disney loses Billions, and keeps releasing more expensive garbage.
At this point, disney needs to crumble. The spirit of Mr Walt is long gone.
@@ShadiC636 We need more people to do what Uncle Walt did when the same thing happened so long ago to _him..._ And that is to make their own content and start building up their own stories.
Remember, Walt Disney and a few of his fellow artists and writers ended up quitting from the corporate that forced Walt to give up his rights to Oswald the Lucky rabbit... So they made their own stories and animations, and proceeded to carry on from there.
Not really. Read their statement. Be vigilant.
@@aahzmandiaz2767 My guess is they wont do this again with Hell Divers. But will do it with the next PC game.
Kind of a bummer. So people need to make their next choice wisely.
I do wonder if they walked it back after this escalated from Sony California to Sony Tokyo?
Whoever came up with this idea should be fired.
Exactly. And those Community Leaders for their hate of Gamers.
Sony executives are not going to fire themselves
Outright jailed and blacklisted
Sony has been dumb shits since the 1990's when I started boycotting them. It isn't the Japanese executives, it's the dumb woke American executives in California.
Don’t buy what u don’t agree with and they all get fired. Mo betta.
This is not a victory, just a strategic retreat. Hold the lines for gaming democracy a
Exactly, Sony will just make it mandatory for games in the future or for at least more of them.
We are aware. Sony is fighting a losing battle anyway.
The Fight started when they Censored Stellar Blade and forced the Devs of Stellar Blade to lie to their audience. This caused People to completely cancel their PSN subscriptions, which in turn, caused Sony to make such absurd demands to the Helldivers playerbase to force a subscription to PSN... Which as we can see here, backfired severely.
We need to keep up the pressure.
@@Victor-056 To be fair, it was only requiring a psn account, not a ps+ subscription....
Wouldn't put it past them aiming for that as the endpoint though...
@@TaranTatsuuchi in some countries you have to own a playstation to create a psn account, plus half of the globe cannot create a psn account at all
Correct. Always stay vigilant, lads & lasses.
Sony didn't want to risk a rogue analyst asking about the Helldivers debacle during their upcoming quarterly report.
Too bad, thats definitely going to happen.
More like they didnt wantclass action lawsuits from multiple countries to come up during their annual report.
That’s the reason they decided to enforce this now in the first place, to pump up psn numbers, especially when a lot of people are canceling their subscriptions because of stellar blade
@@HNedel And it backfired severely, as this scandal basically brought Sony's corruption to multiple countries who would have otherwise ignored it.
This isn't a win
1. I highly doubt Sony won't try this in a few month. They said they won't proceed, that doesn't mean forever.
2. This was more likely the lack of PSN in 177 regions and fear of a class action. If Sony could do this without the refunds going through and that threat they would've done it.
Yeah, I think number 2 is the real reason.
1. They just realize some of countries in EU union cannot make PSN.
2. Valve will basically pull them to the court if Valve feels they needed.
3. Unnecesary expense is not desireable in every financial report. They basically afraid for shareholder call and audit.
It's not highly likely, it IS the reason. Sony is NOT the first publisher in gaming history to realize that account-linking was annoying. They have no issue with it, just like MS, Rockstar, EA, and Ubisoft don't have any issue with it. The only reason they're not proceeding with the update is because they don't realize certain countries would be barred from complying with the requirement, even if they wanted to.
Gamers literally needed to do nothing and this problem would've fixed itself eventually. Sony is a greedy company. They're not going deliberately lose access to markets, pay thousands of refunds, and close already open cash flows into their business.
Yeah, Valve is very pissed of at Sony for the stunt they tried to pull. If they take Sony to court for this, they'll wipe the floor with Sony. Probably why Sony backed down
@@RoulicisThe Yes, definitely. Imagine the amount of time and money that Valve has already lost that is above and beyond any monetary gains they made as the middleman for the original sale. They've expended lots time and resources making all these refunds that are 100% warranted based on Sony locking out regions and Valve should be compensated for that.
This is why having user reviews is necessary to give consumers a voice
And this is why youtube removed the dislike counter and is deleting comments en masse
Imagine if they remove that in the future to "silence" us...
The damage is already done.
For this game for sure. If Arrowhead wants to stay in business, they must cut ties with Soyny.

Now do Stellar Blade
My thoughts exactly. It's hardly a big ask, really.
It won’t be as easy. There was more legal leverage against what they did to Helldivers 2.
@@ShadiC636 The lesson here is that when EVERYONE calls out the bullshit instead of simping for censorship or other anticonsumer BS things will change. Do the same thing, go "Helldive" Stellar Blade now if you don't like it, demand the product as advertised and released in V1.0 and exercise your consumer rights, they actually worked for once in this case, but maybe that has to do with the game itself being a co-op banger that brings people together for a common cause lol.
@@ShadiC636 "false advertising", i think it's very easy

If they get rid of Stellar Blade censorship, then we will be convinced that Order is restored.
Spineless
Not just that. There have been other games that have been unnecessarily censored.
100% Sony is still on thin ice. They really think we are stupid and assumed we wouldn't notice or find out.
No more sony games. Not worth the trouble.( all the censorship, required, and dei)
The sad thing here is that lamestream medias covering this story will title : "entitled crybabies gamers mad"
We need more people to fire back with "Entitled Media Shills crying about their failures"... Also, Lamestream media always ends up being taken very unseriously when the Shills start throwing death threats.
Instead of "People from over 100 Countries get robbed by Sony"
I doubt anyone in their right mind takes gaming related news from the mainstream media seriously in this day and age.
Fake news media
While absolutely true, it’s not like gamers ever got fair press before. I‘m i.e. from the age when media tried to pin all and every mass shooting to games. So yeah, since when has any actual gamer ever believed the press about gaming? The difference to back in the day is just that gamers have become a huge amount of people and media still asks themselves why people lost trust.
A big thank you to Steam and a giant middle finger to Sony.

@@CaptToilet the war is on then
@@CaptToiletyes... But Sony has pissed off the largest game platform and distributor of PC gaming Steam. And although Steam isn't perfect they still are far more customer friendly than Sony and have a MASSIVE Library of game titles and more money than Sony. And now Steam might not let Sony on their platform because of this. Sony had awakened the giant and that giant is VALVE.
I'm done with modern game consoles!!!! These companies don't care about the customers anymore!!!!
All thx to steam. To avoid any lawsuits, steam started refunding the game even within the PSN regions. Sony had no choice. Imagine 250k refunds, Sony must really hate steam now.
Well. Sony should have the brains to make decisions first. They can't hate steam when they pushed it themselves.
At least Steam in a fair game here customers don't like the product then its publisher's fault.
I doubt Steam has a particulary high view of Sony either, seeing as they only had to give refunds due to this atrocious decision.
But how steam refund purchases from months ago in the first place. wasn't that money in Sony's pockets already?
Sony changed their policies retroactively affecting thousands of players that made the product they bought unusable. Steam has no choice but to give refunds. Sony purposely sold the game worldwide on steam knowing the PSN countries restrictions. Probably illegal but immoral at best.
I’ve been a console player for over 40 years. With the push to go digital, disks not having full game on them, the constant shut down of multiplayer after console is replaced and now this monitoring of players for safety I’m now done with consoles.
You now see why they went on the spending spree buying all those companies. It’s easier for them to force the few independents than the majority.
I think getting MvCI on PC might be the best choice. (Because Max is overhauling the game with new shaders, music, logo and everything. MvCI and Beyond is legendary.)
Emulators are our friends, theses companies have fucked up consoles for future gens. Overpriced and can easily take away what you've bought and paid for.
@@loner9832 If emulators run better than console, then I would totally confirm that emulators runs better than physical any consoles. (Pokemon S&V runs horribly in the Switch.)
once plug n play console gaming was gone i was out. i love my Wii U (and it's tiny library of games i bought and was happy with).
stopped all other console-gaming back with the 360 when the monthly sub, high game prices and sub-par performance/experiences/ecosystem/input-device(face it, controllers are at best okayish, at worst hand-torture devices). My second hand PS3 is a blu-ray player.
I don't think things will ever "go back to normal". Sony just self-destructed themselves in a market they had just began to enter. They will never recover the trust that was lost.
Vote with wallet, it actually works when enough people do that.
Who knew?

The US is working to ban Bibles. This month is cursed.
Walking it back doesn't mean that they are good now, and they will try it again.
Saw a post of a player who had 180+ hours on the game get a refund because in his country they don’t allow psn.
Well if they rob you then the minimum is for you to get your money back
An important lesson had been learned: if you wanna make and release good games, don’t partner up with Soyny.
Nice sentiment, but the reality is Helldivers 2 wouldn't exist as it is without outside investment. Both in good and bad ways.

Right here, that was me. Now I'm saving for a decent pc
Me too! I was going to try to pick one up but not after this shit lol
Sony loves antagonizing the people who give them money.
The fact that they tried this says more than enough

I'm done with it and will not have anything to do with another Sony Game... They need to suffer for doing what they did.
No one should trust Sony after doing this.
Sony is discusting now days playstation is not the same anymore look at stellar blade they just dont care.
Selling in countries without PSN while requiring PSN... well. it wouldn't fall under fraud if it's clearly apparent in the first 2 hours so even the most oblivious customer notices immediately. With this non-mandatory period, it really *should* fall under fraud.
It does by EU law that is probably why Sony backtracked cause the list actually included a few EU countries

goddamn, my twitter timeline was nothing but Ponies bashing the PC players and had to mute Helldivers and PSN to get any sort of sanity back...
Great news. 'The customer is always right', while not to be taken literally, is to be taken seriously.
It is common sense. It is reality. Two things that are being forgotten by corporations and politics.

Helldiver players can’t walk this back until it’s on the official Steam description
Excluding over 177 countries from playing an insanely popular game just so you can trick players into signing up for an account they don't even want was just plain dumb.
I'm starting to think Sony is getting business advice from disney lol
How could they not hear millions globally with burning torches and pitchforks telling them to fuck off?
Wait until something is physically done & don't rely on their hollow words.
Sony will never release another game without making you using PSN going forward. I'm glad we won this one though.
By doing so, they’re gonna speedrun themselves into bankrupting their video game department.
it's always been that way FF7 remake requires it, the Tomb Raider games all require it, they only suspended it because more were interested than they expected there's nothing new here.

They did it once and they'll do it again. I'm not going to believe them.
They have to do it again because BlackRock insists on it. They all will.
I was honestly shocked they walked it back with how far Sony has its head up its own back end but hey miracles do come true
Valve pointing out that 177 countries worth of Helldivers purchases would get refunded if they locked the game behind a PSN account that can't be made in those countries?
That's a pretty big dollar number
Steam is the big fish here. Sony is just one of many publishers on Steam. Valve wasn't going to let Sony drop a turd in its punchbowl.
This is the community that killed 2 billion bugs in 10 hours, what else can you expect?
Next they need to do something about the CM's.
Yeah, these CMs are like ticking time bomb, I'm not surprise if they gonna causing another controversy again in the future.
They do not understand what this means. They have no clue how determinated Gamers really are. They should have indeed taken the hint, not to be like "the bugs" in our way.
@@markvermo7523 They already are. The real take away here besides consumers holding the power, is how terrible and ineffective arrowheads community Management staff is
Prepare for a flood of articles from journalists claiming that Sony caving to gamers is promoting toxic behavior.
Guess Sony didn't like the hot cup of Liber-Tea.
They didn't walk it back because of people not liking it, they walked it back so people couldn't refund it anymore since steam will probably not accept refunds for it anymore because the game can now be played without a PSN account.
They should fire the community managers for bad handling and pissing off customers
Sony was testing the waters. I have a feeling that the long term goal is to make PS+ mandatory for online gaming Sony titles on PC.
Thats NOT gonna end well and I dont think Steam will allow that on their platform. They dont understand but they will when it backfires again and they lose even more them before.
Pc gamers are not the group you want to mess with.
...they tested the water, aye... and it was f**** cold 😂
Somebody needs to adjust the pH balance of that water and get it to the point it's acidic. Or otherwise fill it with gators.
If anyone was under the impression that SOYny were somehow "good", then let me remind you that they put Morbius in cinema twice, censored Stellar Blade and Tsukihime art book. These company ain't your friend.. They hate you. End of story.
can't blame those who had the game refunded and refuse to get the game again on steam, sony really messed up

now that hopefully this HD2 shitshow is over, lets get back on track with uncensoring stellar blade
It couldn't have been more obvious that Sony was just trying to pad their own numbers.
No, it was about enabling cross platform banning for those in breach of DEI. "Safety".
They thought they could get away with it, and found out they couldn't.
I do not think those couple of millions to refund people has changed Sony's mind. It is the potential collective damage downstream in Sony's reputation and trust that changed their mind.
The damage is done. No back walking can change that. They tried try to BS us. We will not forget that.
Now, reinstate the rest of the planet. We dive together.
I'm surprised they walked back this quickly. Hell, I'm surprised they did it at all. Of course, I won't forgive them, but at least they learned their lesson.
No lesson learned, theyll do it again just wait
I've been watching Sony's snowball of failures from the sidelines, and beat for beat, I'm so glad I never bought a PS5.
They will learn that gaming is nothing like movies or music, investors and stock holders don't keep the lights on.
Words are cheap, action is required. Store needs to drop the "Requires PSN account" notice. All the countries that lost access needs it back. and a news post must be made directly from the game stating that PSN will not be required.
What a stupid thing to even think about implementing. What does a psn account have to do with PC players?
Juat to collect your data and pumping up their numbers so it looks good that in future more investors or new companies join them because they see high numbers that means they are successfull
Staller Blade refunds becous of false adds, now HellDivers refunds. Ubisoft ereasing The Crew from everyone's consel. Damn bruhh🤣👍

Not just Stellar Blade, but anime, anime games, and Asian games in general.

Good work HellDivers!
Karl would be proud! oT
Problem is, Sony did this once what is going to stop them doing it again?
They won't do it again with helldivers 2 since that game was released globally on PC for all regions. Any attempts at doing so would result in multiple class action lawsuits around the world being triggered at once.
More likely future Sony PC releases might require PSN and be region locked to those areas first. Way less resistance then
Never underestimate the fan base of a game where the main objective is to work in a group. The best way to get back at a company is through your wallets.

What an epic fail on Sony's business. Especially after the censoring continuing, but at least we got a big W.
Great video overall YF, let’s hope Sony keep this promise and don't cross their fingers.
It's really bad, especially as Sony is probably going the route of ms game pass in the near future. This may well have killed that before it even launches.
Sony learned that PC gamers aren't obligated to put with their BS like console gamers.
Sony better learn and accept that PLAYERS and CONSUMERS are no longer sitting back and accepting to be phucked over by them and devs games exclusive to them.
