I don’t ever comment, however, I truly felt the need to for this one. This comment is not for anyone in particular, but rather just a general statement to hopefully educate anyone who may read this.
If you don’t plan to live for the rest of your life in Hawai’i, please don’t purchase a home here. Purchasing and subsequently selling or renting adds to the already exorbitant prices of homes. Many children born and raised here can no longer afford to live here due to the continually increasing cost of living. As Iam Tongi stated, we’re all being “priced out of paradise.”
I know that this is never done with ill-intention, and I simply hope to help people understand and think about our situation in the islands.

It’s good to have a home base, especially one where you can grow a lot of your own food, and a place that you enjoying being in. You can travel the world and have adventures but always have a place to come home to and refresh your spirits and bodies. If you love this home and location, you may find that keeping it will serve you well in the future. Whatever you decide, the very best of wishes for you both. ❤

I see your point, but is this really the kind of place you rent? The massive space and garden requires a lot of upkeep. Will renters be willing to take care of it? It would be a shame to see this property get rented to people who don't respect it and give it the attention it deserves. They will probably have to hire a property management company to deal with affairs while they are away. I don't know the laws in Hawaii, but in Ontario here renting is not worth the hassle if you can avoid it.

What i love about all of this for y'all is that y'all did everything together. Every new adventure, good times and rough times, was handled by the both of y'all together both fully accepting and embracing it all together. No one giving up their own passions or dreams to let the other fulfill theirs. But both on this journey towards the same goals and destinations, constantly supporting each other. To find such a life partner is rare.

Congratulations on selling your Maui home! 🎉 You can buy a new house anywhere you choose next. In the US people are so attached to their homes, staying there forever. When my mom in law moved after 46 years, she realized how old and dated her “amazing to her” house had become. And she paid 1/3 of sale in capital gains. Ouch. Same thing happened to my mom, keeping her house for 42 years. Very boomer mentality. Took 4 weeks to clean out their stuff they had accumulated which neither wanted to deal with (or pay upwards of $10k+ to have a professional declutterer do it). Not fun for the kids who have to deal with it. With Gen X & younger, we like adventure & to see the world. I’ve found that moving once every 8-10 years keeps things fresh and is never boring. It’s also long enough to have made good memories, yet long enough to move on to something new. It forces one to declutter, benefit from tax-free capital gains, never get complacent, try out new paint/decor/furnishings and learn new neighborhoods. Best wishes on your next adventure! 🎉🌺🌞

I think if it’s been listing for very long time and finally got an offer, in todays market you SHOULD sell. I feel like Oahu is more competitive than Maui unless you live here very long time then maybe hold it, but if you want to move on to other locations, sell it then rent somewhere. Have you guys think about living in Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand? It’s more adventure than the US definitely and you can just rent some place temporarily without buying or committing. That’s my plan to retire in a couple of years. Good luck ❤

you're lucky to have gotten an offer right now. interest rates are going up. if you don't sell now, the buyers will have to pay higher interest rates later on, and the number of buyers will go down. which also means you will have harder time unloading the property. this also depends on if you have a property to go home to. you seemed to have a nice place before you moved to hawaii. if you still have access to that property, then i would take the first offer you get. inflation will continue for the next decade. it's a mathematical impossibility to avoid it.

Congratulations! I actually think selling your house is probably the best decision you could have made. It can be very difficult to monitor a rental home when you're traveling and not around often. It would put damper on your freedom for sure. My parents in law used to own rental homes. It was difficult for them at times to keep their properties nice, even living in the same area as the homes were located. All it takes is 1 bad tenant to create problems while you're out trying to enjoy your travels.

Mainlanders moving to Hawaii run up housing costs and make housing completely unaffordable for the natives whose families have lived there for generations! A lot of natives live in their cars. Watched documentaries and newscasts about this problem and it is very heartbreaking! Some people don’t have a humanitarian bone in their body!
