- Switch on, “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert” performing my favorite from them, “I Wanna Be Closer” in an edited video dubbed with an extended remix of the track from their first album, “Switch” (1978).

Jermaine Jackson wrote this at 24 years old. Bobby Debarge is 22 years old & Phillip Ingram is 20 years old singing this classic.
They was young
The fact they were so talented it's miles better to the stuff put out today
This is one of my All- time favorite ❤️ groups!!! Bobby was Absolutely Mesmerizing, Philip was amazing! and Jermaine Jackson was a Genius writing ✍🏽 this Mega Hit!!!! Rest in peace Bobby 💐
The truth is the song was wrote by Jermaine Jackson, And Gregory Williams. 😊
❤❤❤
I was signed to the same Record label as Switch. I used to watch them in rehearsals and onstage in concert. They were excellent musicians and very professional. Greg Williams - the trumpet player, was the main force behind the band and ran things. Many people don't know their name is Switch because the band members would switch instruments during their shows.
Greg was my homie!! Cool cat
@@sethiemethy That’s cool! Yeah he was a cool brother. We were on Total Experience records with the GAP band Back in the day. I learned a lot from him and Charlie Wilson
@@thebrazilshowYea, I’m a musician and my drummer used to tell me all the stories. Hey do you have any of your music here on RUclips that I can listen to?
And what happened to your career??
Greg said he worked hard to locate & put together the best bc he did not want to fail again as the Barry White thing did
@@user-vf5bv6vo4b I started working in the business at 18. Young and naive. Signed a real bad deal. Rick James gabe me a shot but since I was signed as a writer to Total Experience records. I went on to work with Rick James as a Ghost writer and Producer and get paid under the table. I co wrote and played keyboards on “Party All the Time” with Rick for Eddie Murphy, played keyboards Rick James’ “17” and I Co Produced and co wrote Val Young’s “Seduction” Album which you can find here on RUclips
❤Back in da dey when a man wasn't scared to tell a woman how he felt about her😎🇵🇷💙
No lies.
We’re not scared! We WRITE & Sing the love songs you love! Unfortunately, Females aren’t Women, today! They have “WAP,” “don’t need a man,” and see us as inferior! Older girls are too hard and damaged to hear us and the young ones are off havin “Hot Girl Summers!” See?
Bobby's falsetto is breath taking
Bobby & Phillip sound so good together. The way the song starts off with Phillip then Bobby steps in so smooth, 🔥🔥
Today, I wish that Bobby DeBarge and Tommy DeBarge were alive, as I type this comment.
Sweet
Yes. Bobby was no joke. Was blessed with that voice
Makes me so emotional.❤❤❤
Some songs will never get old❤😊
Just jamming with my newborn. This ole' school music puts his fat self right to sleep. 💃🏾💃🏾Someone is going to read this because they stumbled across this page, due to feeling lonely. I'm supposed to tell you, "All is not lost and you have always been loved and guided by your spirit guides and angels. Allow them in so the suffering can end. " Not sure who that message is for. I just obey the instructions. I love you all!🫂❤
❤May Mother God bless and protect you and your family ❤
El Debarge said he is a perfectionist but, his brother Bobby was just PERFECT 😮
Phil Ingraham should have been feature more in this group. That combo was tough to match!
Every time I listen to Switch or watch their videos I am time traveled back to some of the best times of my life. ❤️
Back in the day when music was just awesome to listen to.
Still sounds good in 2024❤
This is a time when just listening to music was enough
This song is like butter OMG!!!
That's What's Real Music Sounds Like 🎶🎵🎶 ?
Yes indeed
Pass the bread cause this was the JAM!!!! This music needs to come back, real voices, harmonies and REAL MUSICIANS
I miss this era of music when it was pure raw talent from the vocals down to the instruments
Bobby DeBarge probably didn't get this kind of love like he is now, Thats why we gatta show love like this before they're gone!
So true. Many times we don't appreciate people until they are gone.
And still in 2024 I'm still in love with this group ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Me too! Always will be!
Me too!
There's nothing like old school slow jams
People slept on Switch. I spent the summer wearing out the grooves of their albums.
Which people are you referring about
No we didn't
I love this song
My favorite from them--still love it.
Thank you for commenting and thank you for watching (and sorry for my slow reply).
The 70s had some really great music👌🏿🎵🎶 Such angelic voices.....
After all these years … still a smooth jam… just ❤it !!!
One of the Dopest performance I have ever seen
That is a classic piece of quality music!
Rip Bobby 🙏🏾
60’s baby and this was real singing! I sung this song to my first girlfriend in 6th grade😊
The whole group was very talented, but Bobby had a voice from heaven . and I have not yet heard a voice like that again in my life and I’m 58 still waiting GOD bless you, your voice is truly missed Lots and lots of love and hugs to the switch group
❤❤
MAN IF I COULD GO BACK I SWEAR TO GOD I WOULD
and i miss my mom everyday
yep me and my brothers and sisters are doin just fine in2024
i guess i just miss my childhood and us all being together as a family..
and man was it a good one.
not a care in the world an saturday morning cartoons...the best
seen these dudes on soul train singing this song.
i was 10yrs old back in 1978
I know that’s right, we had the best music. My grandson play all my music
and some of their songs. I have my song that I love from my parents dancing
I’m looking at them wondering, if this what love is suppose to be. They thought
that Betty Wright was filthy and it wasn’t, she didn’t say one curse word or anything bad. She was telling her truth, we had the best of everything growing
up in the 70’s I’m the youngest of 8. My momma didn’t play at all, but you were
outside until she called for lunch..💜💜💜💜💜
Wow 1978 memories RnB Soul. Really Nice !!
Nothing like old school🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh God …true statement…
May 3, 2024
Still a very beautiful song! ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Still in 2023 this song reign supreme. Ugh I SIMPLY LOVE THIS GROUP.....
Old school. When the young ladies of the 70s and early 80s knew what time it was.
Guys knew how to court the ladies back then!!
I was 12 when this came out...my fiends and I would drool over the album covers and pick who we would marry! Those were the fun times!
Love me some Bobby DeBarge and Philip Ingram. Their voices are everything!! ❤
black music the roots of all music...this kinda music can't never be replaced.
This was one of the greatest groups of that Era when young black people were deep into expressing their talents and we were supporting them every where they went performing and it was just a great day and time to display ur skills and I loved it jamming at all the parties and going to the concerts and applauding for those groups and we sure loved them and that Era will definitely be missed
And don't forget all positive uplifting music, stuff now...I just can't get with most of what our people are making, and I'm not that old I'm 34...but I grew up in the 90's with stuff like this, this is what my family listened to at BBQ's, birthdays, or whatever kind of celebrations..my grandfather and his brothers had a band, they could play instruments and sing etc..they never got popular but I think they were pretty good, my late uncle played woodwind instruments, my grandfather is good at base, their older brother could play piano and their younger brother my other uncle was good on the drums. I love music from the 60's, 70's 80's and 90's...early 2000's it started to go downhill imo, and now it's too point where anything modern si filled with a bunch of trashy bs that honestly makes me kind of depressed when I lsiten to it...I only really only listen to jazz, blues, and electronic dance music that's modern....music made by our people now is filthy, can only listen to so much...filth, I can't groove with the music of today...but hey, that's for them, its a reason why these young black artists are getting money like they are...because that's what is popular now, but it's not better pure music..with great vocals, real instruments etc. There is a few artists out there trying to keep positive black music alive..but they are few and far between and not many of them are popular artists. Thanks for sharing those thoughts.
Great point and beautifully put.
I love Switch! Brings back some bitter sweet memories! ❤
Still listening to this grown folks music 🎶 🎵 in 2024
This song had ever teen age boy trying to hit them notes back in the late 70s standing in front of the mirror, getting that Fro together 😊😊😊😊
Back in the day with
the blue ight parties, Damn miss those days!!!
BABBYYYYY THAT OPENING SAXOPHONE 🎷 ON THIS SONG WARMS MY HEART. Still listening in 2024!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's 3:45 a.m. I can't sleep but I came across this beautiful video and I'm feeling good❤❤❤😂
Music to listen to when cleaning the house on Saturday mornings.
Music that has stood the test of time♥️
This music should have passed the ultimate test.
You said it...
Getting chills watching this🥰👏Switch was one of my favorite groups growing up… Was amazing seeing them perform live in concert 🎶 Bobby Debarge’s voice was just -wow!! This song and There’ll Never Be”were my favorites. Also props to Philip Ingram and the other amazingly talented musicians and singers. Miss the days of multi-talented groups like this💕👏 Thanks for sharing this..
Amazing how so many people have recently tuned into this. Incredible song Jermaine Jackson is a writer on this song. totally beautiful and never gets old.
Philip Ingram’s skin tone👀❤️
Man, these melodies, harmonies, and lyrics make you forget the heartbreak of falling in love and want to do it all over again. Bobby's falsetto piercing your heart with Phillip's vocals touching your soul. This song is so beautiful 😍
❤❤❤🎩🦱🎸🎺📯🤘🍾🥂Back in the day...we had smooth cultural icons and groups entertaining us.
Alot people think El is actually Bobby because people aren't that familiar with the Debarges story, but Bobby was that guy most of the songs we thought was El was really Bobby God Bless them both RIP Bobby💯💪
Yea, lots of people did. But Bobby was the most talented out of them all! Then El was next.. El was close but no cigar..
And even El himself admitted that Bobby blew EVERY BODIES SOCKS OFF THAT came to either work, learn or compete. These two were the real deal and they had naturally high voices and so didn’t have to strain with falsetto as much. Yes they still used falsetto, but it was easier for them because they were already up there in that range naturally!
@@user-vf5bv6vo4b no lies told there brother, you absolutely spot on
Wow... awesome insight... I'm learning more about their musical roots..Mama DeBarge was a prolific singer...they most likely inherited her musical traits 😊
@@jonathanharris8566 Thanks my friend. I’m a singe musician myself. But definitely nothing like Bobby or El, they were truly blessed by the right hand of God!
Ig reel brought me here ... Bobby's falsetto & Philip Ingram vocals, with that 🎺 intro & the baseline 🎸 -> 🔥🔥🔥
They pulled a SWITCH didn't they America? We were plugged in! ✊👊💯👊✊💯❤🖤💚
Timeless classic. Smooth Groove even in 2023. They just don't make songs as good as this anymore. RIP Bobby DeBarge. Your brother El DeBarge always pays you homage in ALL his concerts.🤗💜
The 70s had some incredible songs. ♥️🔥
What a love song wow that harmony is flawless too good.
You cant get any smoother than these guys. They are beyond great!!!
Idk why this popped up on my feed, but that's some hell of a good music. Thinking back to my skating days...there was this older guy who tore the floor up to this and Magic Man ❤
This is a beautiful song, excellent harmony and vocals.
Wow being a teenager in the 70’s and seeing these groups on Tv or hearing them on the radio, was a cherished part of growing up💖💖
❤❤It also reminds me of Billy Paul, Me and Mrs Jones ❤❤
Although he was never shown, that is Donald Myrick playing the alto sax.
I was thinking… why are they showing someone playing the trumpet… when it’s definitely a saxophone that we are hearing 🤷🏽♀️
he play so beautiful, don't you agree? ( real old school heads get it )
@@SylviaLynnByrdit was both and all the instruments was played listen clear
Phil is so smooth, sounds so good.
Bobby Debarge! Wish you were still alive man!
Alive and well
Slow dancing house parties 🥰🎺🎸 💐
Such a long time ago but I want to dedicate this song to Willie Champion jr. You were so sweet and nice. I just wonder what would be if I choose you and not him.
Damn…So talented. All of them. What a beautiful song. Everything about it.❤
Jermaine J. & Switch were the hope & promise of young black America, what a highly gifted group of guys, what a heartbreaking tragic end
I still listen to this song and all my old skool....REAL MUSIC NEVER DIES
Preach
This is literally a PERFECT song to me. The instruments, the vocals, the lyrics, the harmonies, the way everything just blends together so perfectly 🥹 I’m a 90’s baby but Switch gone do it for me everytime… the way Bobby glides on these tracks will never be duplicated!
100%
Those Debarges.., the Detroit area pumped out so much talent even after the Motown era ended. Anita Baker, Cherrelle, Dwele, Kem, Keith Washington, The Jones Girls, Alicia Myers, Madonna, Aaliyah (raised there since 5), etc
Anita Baker can't sing.
@@garrison8215Madonna can’t either.
Debarge from Ohio
Detroit needs to emphasize on that... Add more than just the Motown museum turn the Grand Blvd into a music tourist attraction like no other
Grand Rapids Michigan @@cle-chi
This shit is soooo smooth and mellow that you can't help to love it. I was dating someone any I dedicated this to her. For a first date you can not go wrong playing this song.
Damn this is my Song 💯
Dang that sax is on fire 🔥 ❤
Especially since dude is holding a TRUMPET! Equipment/prop manager was fired that day! 😂
Every time I hear this song, I get so emotional. This song really touches my soul.
Yes, it got me too!! I wish I could turn back the hands of time.😢😢😢
That’s One of the Greatest Romantic Song Ever Especially the way they sing it 💯👏🏽✊🏽👍🏽🙏🏾
This song makes you want to be next to the one you love
I am so happy I grew up when they did shows on live TV like this I was 11 when this song came out
REAL MUSIC 🎵🎵🎵
Remember this like yesterday ❤
This is the sexist jam ever. The way Jermaine wrote it, the way Bobby and Philip sung it ------ SENSUAL . So pretty. No other could have sung it better than Phil and Bobby De. They did the damn thing on this sung
Love, love that song. Beautiful lyrics, and excellent harmonies.❤
2o24 listen to that sax it's the max just relax then Bobby hits those notes all votes yeah switch was wicked 😊😊😊😊😊😊
OH yes!!! Thats why 70s music will always be the best
Omg that angelic harmony!!! Beautiful!!!
Switch just won you over back in the day you had to like them.
I love the mix of Bobby and Phil's vocals. I love when a band has more than one lead singer.
Simply beautiful!
Slow jam....slow drag...sweet memories ❤❤❤❤
I still listen to this 🎵🎶💞
Great song, written and produced by Jermaine Jackson.
Wow I didn’t know that
@@mariebray5941. Yep! Jermaine Jackson discovered Switch and brought them to Motown.
Beautiful old days...
