Enter Oedipus and Sigmund Freud. It's clearly Alys making him experience these visions. She's trying to pull up his darkest guilt and shame in order to show him something about himself. I'm just not sure what that exact something is?
The storyline involving Daemon and Alys Rivers, particularly the supernatural elements at Harrenhal, is both intriguing and well-executed. As a reader of the books, I find the portrayal of Alys Rivers by the actress to be exceptional. Her ability to hold her own alongside Matt Smith is impressive, and her performance effectively conveys the character's mysterious motivations and ambitions. This nuanced portrayal adds depth to the character, enhancing the overall narrative of the show.
@@adamhughes4387 Quite a random thing to be shown if it has no connection to some of his own subconcious. Every vision we've seen up until now has been about things he himself is conflicted by. I can't imagine why Alys would suddenly show him something random just so we could have a scene of him doing his mom. Keep in mind that this isn't the first time we've seen sex associated with motherly love in this show. Aemond, the guy who also never known any real motherly love from her own mother and who has had plenty of parallels with Daemon, has sought that kind of motherly affection from prostitutes.
@@krissuyxyes he might have. But he wouldn't be having sex with her given how shocked he was when she said her favorite son. That's what he thinks he is. He thinks he is this person who should have been crowned and a fearsome dragonrider. That's playing part while Alys is giving him dreams of his mom and also asks him about her
Someone give Blake a hint of common sense. Criston wasn't saying he didn't see war, he is talking about how dragon warfare is totally different and he never saw that before. Absolutely insane reactions while totally misinterpreting everything on screen.
Alicent not being an affection mother doesn't mean she doesn't love her children. She literally stands in front of a dragon to protect Aegon in S1EP9 and we saw how she reacted when Aemond lost his eye. She loves her children but is afraid of what Aemond has become and angry at Aegon's carelessness. Both of which is due to her AND Visery's bad parenting. Its just funny how one minute TB fans claim Alicent doesn't care about her children and then the next are mad she won't put Rhaenyra before her children.
There are two possible dragon riders, the man with the sick daughter, the other one was in the tavern and of course the third one Lord Corlys bastard son Addam.
Daemon barely knew Alyssa. And thats obvious bc he doesnt recognize her as his mother until the end, and then he is horrified. Also, Alys mentioning her is to imply she’s the one giving him the hallucinations about her. Same as she mentioned Rhaenyra after he dreamed about killing her. She is playing with him. And Alyssa didn’t look like that. Surprise surprise, she had dirty blond hair and mismatched green/purple eyes. Not every Targaryen has silver hair. Rhaenys had black hair actually, they changed hers. Queen Alysanne had golden blond hair (Rhaenys and Daemon’s grandma). But also, Daemon was 3 when Alyssa died after giving birth to his brother Aegon, who then died months later. Even funnier is how Viserys said in s1 Daemon was their mother’s favorite because he was a warrior lmao he was 3 The show cant decide if he knew her or not.
the show knows what it is doing. Just because it showed a dream does not mean he knew her. He clearly did not know who that woman was, it is telling the audience to keep an eye on what is happening. It is clearly a dream from Alys
I think it still implies an Oedipus complex of sorts. There's been a lot of motherly affection associated with lovers in the show. Look at the way Aemond was being comforted by the prostitute, cradled in her arms like a baby. Daemon seeked comfort from Mysaria in the same way in season one at times. These are both men who never had motherly love and the only time they've gotten close to it has been with people they've been intimate with. Daemon and Aemond have had a lot of parallels beyond just that.

Jace continues to prove why he really is the true heir to iron throne, more than Aegon and Aemond. Yes Jace has the rashness of youth and not wanting to be cooped up, but he's also been very strategic in gaining alliances. Out of pretty much everyone, he has succeeded in gaining the most alliances to Rhaenyra's side. He got the greybeards from Cregan Stark in the North, he got safety and support from Jeyne Arryn at the Vale, and now he's secured the crossing at the Twins from the Freys. Rhaenyra has actually prepped her son well at being the future king.
Jace telling his mom that there must be others with the same blood, neither of them mentioning the fact that his dad is Strong. He was like surely if I can ride a dragon they can ride them too. That was a really good scene. And the powerplay in the small council chamber was really good. how are people blaming alicent again for everything, damn. Ofc she cares if her son lives or dies, she was mean to him but she loves all her kids, she putted herself between aegon and a fucking dragon, all she did was to protect her kids, she may not like aegon bc he's a bad man but she's still loves him as his mother, same thing with aemond, she's afraid of the person he's becoming but she loves him still.
@DarthKay093 the war started the moment Viserys sired a son, every action made by all the people around it influenced that. Otto putted the seed into her mind the moment he said to her that Rhaenyra would've to put Alicent's sons heads to the sword to have the crown without a challenge, which is true, any of Alicent's sons have a bigger claim to the throne than Rhaenyra (bc they are men in a patriarchal society). Viserys should've tried better to strengthen his daughter's claim, but he was lazy and stupid. He only talked about wanting peace in the family HE destroyed. Alicent only told her kids what her own father told her, which was the truth, solely blaming Alicent for something that definitely wasn't under her to control, doesn't make sense.
Aegon was alcoholic and so called rapist at a age of what 17,18? You can tell his parents are trash, the only time she really care about him, is when she use him as a political tool just like otto and viserys,

Oh my gosh they’ve got father playing Alyn and now they’ve got mother playing Lady Jayne you guys Have to check out RAISED BY WOLVES at one point such a good show, I think all the Velaryon’s are about to become very important to team black.
the reasoning the writers had behind meleys’ head being the wrong thing to show after the battle was kind of silly to me. ryan condal said “meleys is a beloved dragon who probably flew over that city hundreds of times” and something about her being a symbol of the targaryens power or whatever but like???? do we not remember in episode 9 of season 1 rhaenys and meleys burst through the floor of the dragon pit and killed at least a couple hundred small folk? the writers must’ve forgot the scene they added in that wasn’t in the book lol. and to make it worse that scene replaced the part in the book where after the coronation, aegon flew around the city on sunfyre and then to the throne room. so by adding that unnecessary rhaenys scene that they then forgot, sunfyre wasn’t even shown until halfway through season 2 in the episode he gets super injured in 😭
And how was that event viewed as a dark omen during a coronation...that dark omen came full circle. This is a world kept at peace at the heel of dragons..what form of anarchy would be unleashed between men if all the dragons were gone....
the producers found daemons popularity strange and now they are doing everything to destroy his character, daemon in the books at this point in the story is 100% loyal to rhaenyra as queen and he already knows that he is not fit to be king, and it is also said in the book that he did not fall into alyss hallucinations, they should have saved this hallucination plot for another character in the future 👀
what have they done to Daemon? Maybe they have forced to reconcile with all the fucked up thing he has done. And also he is there to get a fucking army, like they have mentioned every single episode. They are showing how complex he is, and not just black and white. Do you understand character building?
@@LauraGS564 he was already complex. Showing how he is in a haunted house has nothing to do with his character development. Shut the f uck up and sit down.
I know folks think this episode was slow but I enjoyed it. I'm really beginning to love Jace and Baela and Mysaria. Her team up with Rhaenyra is certainly a good thing. So many people in their feelings about Aegon too. He got what he deserved. I'm so excited for the next episode!
it's just the Blacks are so inactive because the writers sent daemon off on a sidequest instead of him being an active participant. without Viserys around, Rhaenyra is sequestered, Coryls recovering/mourning... Rhaenys is dead.... there's just nothing happening. and then on the greens side... Otto has been gone for 2-3 episodes now and Rhys is such a presence. the writers dont seem like they have any idea what to do with Helaena now... ugh. so it's relying on cole and Alienct and people absolutely despise and hate cole so much they groan whenever he's on screen. no one wants to see him. it's just a frustrating season.
Alicent shamed Rhaenyra and instilled in Aegon and Aemond that a woman would never hold power, she and Otto usurped Rhaenyra because she is a woman and now she throws a fit because she cannot rule as a regent. Well well well, aren't those consequences of her own actions?
I will wait to the end to pass judgment but there is no way Daemon would betray Rhaenyra like this. One of his only redeeming qualities is how loyal he was to his brother and to Rhaenyra.
I dont think that daemon was actually banging his mum in his dreams, To me it felt like Alys rivers is putting these thoughts into his head somehow, like how is she predicting all of his dreams after the fact. Also daemon doesnt know what alyssa (his mum) looks like (she was supposedly more of a honey blonde, also she had Heterochromia), Daemon was basically banging his version of what he thinks his mum looks like. Kinda like when daemon dreamt about aemond but he could only picture himself.
I absolutely thought she was his mum and though that they will have a heart to heart conversation but 😭 Instead got that We got Alyssa on screen but at what cost?
No, the closest we’ve seen are brother and sister. They share more DNA than uncle and niece. Everyone seems to forget Aegon is married to his sister Haelena. If you mention incest everyone talks about the blacks.
Ok I’m maybe the only one who has ever noticed or cared about this but I am so glad at least one actor (Hugh Hammer guy) wearing a white wig has also bleached his eyebrows and beard to match. It drives me insane when Targs have black eyebrows and white hair on their heads. Can’t the MUA’s just put makeup on them at least. Ok Petty rant over
“You should fly out together” yall say a lot of dumb things but that is definitely up there. There’s a reason why we rarely let the president and vice president be in the same location at once. But nah let’s just send the queen and heir out on dragon back.
Visenya was a woman who fought in battle on her dragon. It's that simple, they don't want the Queen risking her life in battle. Visenya was also a Queen.
@@martinsanyasi We're saying the same thing... I'm saying Jace specifically says not to take her as a role model because he and her council don't want her in the fight. Rhaenyra can think her a role model for many reasons, one of them being her ability to wield a sword, sure, but that isn't all of it.
I'll be honest they are spending way too much time arguing about who's aloud to fight and not enough actually fighting lol. I was expecting this season to be a war, but it's been like whole episodes of them arguing about who's gonna fight and then people just going and doing there own thing with like no consequences lol. I agree that they should all just go fight Vaegar together instead they're just sending a 1 or 2 at a time to get destroyed by Vaeger who's clearly big enough to take on multiple opponents
The guy on the left looks like a heavy metal or punk Viserys. The guy in the middle looks a bit like Jacaerys with lighter and shorter hair. The guy on the right looks like a long lost Cargyll twin... or rather triplet.
Decent episode. i just wish there was more movement with these episodes; a lot of plot lines still not going anywhere and the daemon stuff? i just don't care about.
It is disgusting they take Daemon who lost his mother before he was 3 and made him have a sick vision of her. He has NO memory of her. Whoever wrote that is sick. The Greens are bloody idiots to show the corpse of the Red Queen like this. Making the Targaryens look weaker and easy to kill
It's not about the Freudian/ Oedipal sexual actions. It's about the arguments being made through these visions. Alys is clearly trying to show Daemon something about himself... just what that is remains tad cryptic at the moment. All will be revealed soon. I want a Viserys vision in the next episode.
Smallfolk already know that dragons die. Everyone knows the Meraxes got sniped in Dorne. Everyone knows what happened to Quicksilver. Everyone knows that Balerion himself passed away. And I am sure the smallfolk eventually heard of Arrax.
@@DarthKay093 stop it if you wanna blame the greens blame the writing💯you 🤡s love blaming the writers for black stuff but wanna blame green for everything else like literally the writers are the same 🤡
@@CoryGasaway It is a little bit about that too. Aemond and Daemon are both men who never had real motherly affection. The closest they've come to it has been with lovers so they may have a somewhat warped view of it. Daemon was comforted in a motherly fashion by Mysaria in season one, while Aemond was comforted in a motherly fashion by what's-her-face in the brothel in season two. It's yet another parallel between Daemon and Aemond.
I'm confused. This was episode 5 out of 8, and there were virtually no events. Did anyone remember anything important besides the death of Aegon's son and the battle of the dragons? The funny thing is that the conversations in the series do not help to truly reveal the characters; everyone was made into a cliché. On my own behalf, I will add that Rhaenyra’s desperate decision to bring new riders from the side branches of the Targaryens to freedom cannot lead to anything good. People will receive power, a dragon and... ambition to claim the throne, which is obvious.
Cargyll duel was important too. Most of the big events in the Dance are, in fact, battles. They can't have many battles in a season. They have to space them out. The alternative is skipping even more battles or having battles of much lower quality. They're saving their budget and time for the really big moments, like Rook's Rest. Personally, I love the stuff in between. All the little conversations and character building. Most of this was not in the book so it's interesting to see how the writers of the show contextualize the events from the book and give personality to the characters, who arguably had very little in the book.
@LauraGS564 So in the series there were no battles other than the fight of dragons. Even Cole's fight was reduced to shooting arrows and immediately moving into the sky. In Game of Thrones, a full episode of the season was dedicated to the battle, even with a minimal budget. I’ll tell you a secret, I’m not a fan of fights, but here they’re not just in every episode, they’re not there at all. We are simply told once again about the great victories of the Greens, which (conveniently) the viewer does not see at all.
@@LauraGS564lmao, you told someone to play attention when you’re clearly not. Alys is clearly planting these dreams and visions. All he knew was that was a beautiful woman. Alys says “it’s a shame you never knew you’re mother” because if he knew what she looked like he wouldn’t have been tricked in that vision
No, not Driftmark, that is the Castle of High Tide. Build by the Sea Snake himself some 15 years ago. (OF COURSE, all of this is in the Isle of Driftmark. Hahah i just wannted to be a smartass. sorry)
No Otto. No Aegon. Corlys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra sequestered and sidelined. A whole lot of Cole who people despise and hate so much they don't even want him on screen anymore. Oh my gosh they’ve got father playing Alyn and now they’ve got mother playing Lady Jayne you guys Have to check out RAISED BY WOLVES at one point such a good show, I think all the Velaryon’s are about to become very important to team black.
Yes!!! raised by wolves was so good it’s great to see the tow actors in another series, I hope they have a scene together at some point.
Omfg I didn't realize that was her..that show was fu king g awesome
I know Alyn better as Bayek from Assassin's Creed Origins.
I believe it was Celtigar (maybe?) who said they need to strike while Vhaegar is compromised . He is right
Daemon is there to get an army. How many times do they have to spell that out before you get it?
“Daemon on a side quest.” 😂😂 more like a season long side quest. He must be trying to focus on Dex build this season.
Rook’s rest isn’t very far from kings landing. Dragonstone isn’t even that far.
the reasoning the writers had behind meleys’ head being the wrong thing to show after the battle was kind of silly to me. ryan condal said “meleys is a beloved dragon who probably flew over that city hundreds of times” and something about her being a symbol of the targaryens power or whatever but like???? do we not remember in episode 9 of season 1 rhaenys and meleys burst through the floor of the dragon pit and killed at least a couple hundred small folk? the writers must’ve forgot the scene they added in that wasn’t in the book lol. and to make it worse that scene replaced the part in the book where after the coronation, aegon flew around the city on sunfyre and then to the throne room. so by adding that unnecessary rhaenys scene that they then forgot, sunfyre wasn’t even shown until halfway through season 2 in the episode he gets super injured in 😭
And how was that event viewed as a dark omen during a coronation...that dark omen came full circle. This is a world kept at peace at the heel of dragons..what form of anarchy would be unleashed between men if all the dragons were gone....
@@sosayweall2509thank you, it’s just Green lovers that are whining over every little thing that makes them look bad.
Condal is a hack. Should be pretty clear by now.
Daemon doesn't wanna sleep with his mum 💀 he doesn't control the hallucinations, he was horrified
I'm ready for Daemon to check out of the Harrenhal Extended Stay Motel, return to Dragonstone, and bend the knee again to Rhaenyra.
the producers found daemons popularity strange and now they are doing everything to destroy his character, daemon in the books at this point in the story is 100% loyal to rhaenyra as queen and he already knows that he is not fit to be king, and it is also said in the book that he did not fall into alyss hallucinations, they should have saved this hallucination plot for another character in the future 👀
Take Daemon out of that conjuring a*s house. What have they done to his character, Lord??😭😭😭
Wtf is wrong with u ppl ? If dont like it then dont watch it simple 🤦🤦 no need to make an idiotic comment
what have they done to Daemon? Maybe they have forced to reconcile with all the fucked up thing he has done. And also he is there to get a fucking army, like they have mentioned every single episode. They are showing how complex he is, and not just black and white. Do you understand character building?
@@LauraGS564 he was already complex. Showing how he is in a haunted house has nothing to do with his character development. Shut the f uck up and sit down.
@@LauraGS564 could be but ppl see it in a diffrent way
I know folks think this episode was slow but I enjoyed it.
Otto has been gone for 2-3 episodes now and Rhys is such a presence. the writers dont seem like they have any idea what to do with Helaena now... ugh. so it's relying on cole and Alienct and people absolutely despise and hate cole so much they groan whenever he's on screen. no one wants to see him. it's just a frustrating season.
when you realize that no one cares what you think just because you are a woman...
I breathe the anger and helplessness of Alicent
Aemon is punishing everyone for the bullying they did to him when he was a child. That whole family is broken.
For a man that fought in the dornish incursion, Cole was certainly not prepared for a war with dragons.
Alicent shamed Rhaenyra and instilled in Aegon and Aemond that a woman would never hold power, she and Otto usurped Rhaenyra because she is a woman and now she throws a fit because she cannot rule as a regent. Well well well, aren't those consequences of her own actions?
That dog is waiting patiently to dine on well-aged human lol
I will wait to the end to pass judgment but there is no way Daemon would betray Rhaenyra like this. One of his only redeeming qualities is how loyal he was to his brother and to Rhaenyra.
Saw prepared you guys for seeing Aegon
❤️👑 amazing . The finale is going to be insane
Daemon's mom is a hottie tho. Can't blame him ngl🥵😂😂
but fr that was seriously fvcked up! His mother died when he was just only 3.
vile af
I dont think that daemon was actually banging his mum in his dreams, To me it felt like Alys rivers is putting these thoughts into his head somehow, like how is she predicting all of his dreams after the fact. Also daemon doesnt know what alyssa (his mum) looks like (she was supposedly more of a honey blonde, also she had Heterochromia), Daemon was basically banging his version of what he thinks his mum looks like. Kinda like when daemon dreamt about aemond but he could only picture himself.
I absolutely thought she was his mum and though that they will have a heart to heart conversation but 😭
Instead got that
We got Alyssa on screen but at what cost?
Making promises one can't keep with the Frey always ends up good for everyone. Isn't that right, Robb?
No, the closest we’ve seen are brother and sister. They share more DNA than uncle and niece. Everyone seems to forget Aegon is married to his sister Haelena. If you mention incest everyone talks about the blacks.
Long live Queen Alicent

Ok I’m maybe the only one who has ever noticed or cared about this but I am so glad at least one actor (Hugh Hammer guy) wearing a white wig has also bleached his eyebrows and beard to match. It drives me insane when Targs have black eyebrows and white hair on their heads. Can’t the MUA’s just put makeup on them at least.
Ok
Petty rant over
“You should fly out together” yall say a lot of dumb things but that is definitely up there. There’s a reason why we rarely let the president and vice president be in the same location at once. But nah let’s just send the queen and heir out on dragon back.
Alicent is my favorite character
Mine too
can someone tell me why did Jace tell her mother to not take Visenya as an example and why was Rhaenyra triggered because of that?
Visenya was a woman who fought in battle on her dragon. It's that simple, they don't want the Queen risking her life in battle. Visenya was also a Queen.
He's telling her not to get inspired in to fighting.
Google you will understand ...when dragons go to war the whole world burns
@@ItheauthorityI no visenya was a role model of rhaenyra unlike visenya, rhaenyra wasn't trained in arms
@@martinsanyasi We're saying the same thing... I'm saying Jace specifically says not to take her as a role model because he and her council don't want her in the fight. Rhaenyra can think her a role model for many reasons, one of them being her ability to wield a sword, sure, but that isn't all of it.

I love the fact that Blake subtly curses Alicent every 4 seconds. Honestly, I too do it while watching😂😂😂. #teamblack
Alicunt is so insufferable this season. I hate her sm
Filler episode in an 8 episode season is crazy
I'll be honest they are spending way too much time arguing about who's aloud to fight and not enough actually fighting lol. I was expecting this season to be a war, but it's been like whole episodes of them arguing about who's gonna fight and then people just going and doing there own thing with like no consequences lol. I agree that they should all just go fight Vaegar together instead they're just sending a 1 or 2 at a time to get destroyed by Vaeger who's clearly big enough to take on multiple opponents
Aemond and Vhaegar are the real MVP in this season
The guy on the left looks like a heavy metal or punk Viserys. The guy in the middle looks a bit like Jacaerys with lighter and shorter hair. The guy on the right looks like a long lost Cargyll twin... or rather triplet.
Bro needs to stay off Twitter 😭🙏
I thought that was rhaenyra mom not daemons. It was the actress
Not the same actress at all.
Decent episode. i just wish there was more movement with these episodes; a lot of plot lines still not going anywhere and the daemon stuff? i just don't care about.
Cant wait to see Rhaena's scene next episode! 🐑🐲
it was boring without Aegon
maybe this is why I felt this episode was less entertaining than the other ones. My favorite scenes were with Alys and Alicent by far
Of course. Bcoz you are team green😂
@@RhaenyraT2001 not really, i'm team neutral and I loved Baela's scenes, she's the best of tb this episode by far!!
Just alot of story devices, which is good.
Yeah. I can feel it too. He's just so funny and entertaining to watch. I only enjoyed Jace scenes
@@stew-03 Maegor NEVER paraded Quicksilver just to show his dominance
Yeah u right are u going to give a spoiler for the rest of the season or what ???
oh yes they are supposed to have battle scenes every episode. lol. have you heard something called buildup?
@@LauraGS564 ppl sometimes perhaps forget or dont know what is buildup means 😄🤣
Its just the showrunners barely disguised fetish.. daemon was a toddler when his mother died.
or they are showing Daemon's psyche. Maybe pay attention?
@@LauraGS564lmao, you told someone to play attention when you’re clearly not. Alys is clearly planting these dreams and visions. All he knew was that was a beautiful woman. Alys says “it’s a shame you never knew you’re mother” because if he knew what she looked like he wouldn’t have been tricked in that vision
When he's wife call home apathetic they really make him empathetic this season
That wicth is mess with damon head. He need to get out of there. I miss old damon
Makes me look forward to when she meets Aemond tho. She will have a field day with that one
She's just showing his own mind to him💀💀
I think it would have been better if it was Aemma instead, and it will connect to Daemon wanting everything his brother had.
No, not Driftmark, that is the Castle of High Tide. Build by the Sea Snake himself some 15 years ago. (OF COURSE, all of this is in the Isle of Driftmark. Hahah i just wannted to be a smartass. sorry)
Didn’t he build High Tide due to the old castle being too damp and wet? I may be mistaken
this one was slow..... and daemon hallucinating all season is annoying.... just my opinion~
You need episodes like this though. They lay the groundwork and give more emotional depth and character moments.
No Otto. No Aegon. Corlys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra sequestered and sidelined. A whole lot of Cole who people despise and hate so much they don't even want him on screen anymore. Alicent isn't far behind. the writers haven't a clue what to do with Helaena. the writing for Myseria's character has deteriorated. what is going on here?
