i've seen dezi perform this piece several times over the years and it gets better and better ,more expressive and creative everytime i hear it. Brilliant playing!! As for Jim Murray's guitar work..,he is sensational. Rhythmically, creatively, grounding and adds sparkle and colour to the tune. terrific combination. masters of their music!!
Thanks so much brummy for posting this from halfway around the world in Sacramento in Northern California. I'm American first, but three of my grandparents were from County Kilkenny, and I'm finding that this kind of music touches my soul. For the past year I've been watching Highland Sessions, Transatlantic Sessions, and other Irish and Scottish music on youtube. I even put it on my mp3 and listen to it as I hike the mountains near where I live. Fantastic job brummy; keep it coming!!
Ah, he is not that famous atall to be called 'Jesus Murray"!. I think that he wont mind being called Jim. But he is the top class guitar player. I absolutely love this youtube video of him where he accompanies Seamus Begley singing "An Ciarraioch Mallaithe", great stuff. The link might be removed when I post, and if it is just search youtube for Begley and Murray and also for an Ciarraioch Mallaithe. Well worth a look.
Very good fiddler, I've been following him since donkey's years. That said, a bit of criticism: I never understood the Irish habit of letting rosin build on top of the instrument's belly - harmful for the fiddle -, and not developing a better technique like their Scottish cousins: Better bow hold and not holding the mast as a broomstick. That could make their music even better. At least, he´s using a shoulder rest, so he won´t fuck his neck. Now I'm ready, throw stones to me.
Jay Peckay, Dezzi died recently, God rest his soul, and his family wouldn't like to see such a vulgar statement from you. He was a great man and an absolutely fantastic musician and he will be remembered as a musical giant. God rest his soul.
A tune played with astonishing skills and a way that makes it come to life. Aye, jazzy chords thrown in here and there by one the best guitar players ever, who's actually playing a classical guitar, not an acoustic one. This rendition of a traditional Irish tune is . . fantabulous.
Hadn't listened to this in years. Came back - still blisteringly hot!
