I'm happy you guys found something affordable within your budget. Please do this it may save you a lot of trouble. I live in a fifth wheel in Florida for many years and the first thing you really need to do is seal the roof with some type of elastomeric paint that will help stop prevent leaks. Especially when you're traveling it's going to be flexing a lot don't skimp out and you will not regret it.:-)
Yes!!! This is what we are doing first! We have been working on removing all the old caulk so we can reseal everything, including the roof. The not fun part of the renovation lol.

Keep a close eye on the miles you travel. We bought a brand new travel trailer last year to travel on vacation. It's weighs about 5,000 lbs. In a period of 8 hours we stopped 4 x for gas. That totalled about $300. We have a 2021 dodge ram, 1500. It's a lot of fun traveling but it is costly.

@@raisingwildflowers You’ll get so many ideas, your head will spin. We bought a third hand tiny travel trailer, a Jayco, that opens up into two beds on the side with a bathroom and we love it. Every evening, my husband and I watch one of these RV videos on this channel and learn something new. The man who runs this channel has helped so many people. I think you’re going to find what you’re looking for on it. 😊
Hi Katie, It will be great to see what your trailer looks like once its done! For your master bedroom, you could always put in a murphy bed, as they fold up into a cupboard, then you could utilise the floor space during the day for your baby and your pets :)

We've lived in an RV for almost 10 years and love it. Once you get the "not so fun" renovations done you'll probably have a better quality RV than a brand new one. The ones they are making now are shoddy. We park host most of the year at a Texas State Park and we have two families right now also hosting. If you decide you want to stay in an area longer than a month, it's a great way to get a free hook up site in exchange for hours worked in the park. Congrats on your new adventure!
One thing about you two is that you are resourceful and tenacious. You also seem realistic yet adventurous. My husband is very adventurous and I’m more of a “safety & low risk” person. This combo has helped us, I keep him grounded and he keeps me from getting stuck. You all remind me of us in this way, except you both seem to be a good combination of both.

The next challenge is finding campgrounds that will allow one that old. Unfortunately many have turned to the ten year rule. Certainly not all but it is something to keep in the back of your mind when you travel that the year will hinder you some. Good luck

We chose to rent out our house to Supplement our income, take advantage of tax write offs, and have a place to go back to if we wanted to or needed to. It felt safer to us .

This is so exciting! I am along for the adventure! We are newly retired living a frugal comfortable life. We always took the safe conventional route. Looking back we wished we had taken more chances or adventures! Sounds like you are making some great memories for your family! Enjoy!
Go to Lowes or Home Depot. They have a 5 gallon bucket of a product that you can roll the roof with for only $75. and it's enough to roll the roof on 31 feet probably 3 or 4 times. Even if you had to do it yearly, that is much cheaper than have the roof replaced. If you want me to get the exact name of the product let me know. I will ask my husband.

I love your trailer. Please remember that blue oval in Tennessee is paying really good. And the electrical apprenticeship program is a very good option. It could give you a lot of freedom to travel to high paying jobs in the future. Just food for thought. And it’s in a very inexpensive place to live. Plenty of places to get a couple acres to live on. A home base is always nice. LA

Be careful- my brother was just in an accident and their truck and RV were totaled. My sister-in-law law was lifelines to hospital-- those are difficult to maneuver and even experienced drivers can wreck!!!
Insurance has not covered value of RV because they require photos and Receipt of all claimed items ( tv, computers etc) They had to borrow money from me to rent a car and get lodging after the accident!!!

Finding that travel trailer will help you out a lot now. Are you going to put a woodstove in for warmth for cooler places?
We are going to avoid colder places 😂 But it does have propane heat and we will get a couple little space heaters too for cooler days.

Something to keep in mind some camp grounds will not take older campers. I'm not sure why but I had a friend run into issues finding some places.

I am so excited for you and your family! I definitely think it is going to be a lot of work BUT will be worth it in the end, and you will have a customized RV! How are you all going to be pulling it?? My hubby and I have been talking about buying an RV but they are expensive! We own our own car business where he buys vehicles all over the USA through auctions so he's always seeing the RV's coming through the auctions! I know we will be able to purchase one at the cost of a dealer's price and not the actual price the public would have to pay. He has just finished with medical school and is about to start his rotations! We feel that we would save $$$ if we bought an RV INSTEAD of staying in an airbnb every 8 weeks (for the rotations). For example he was offered to do a rotation in Atlanta GA for 8 weeks. The cost of a airbnb OR we even checked the extended stay places and it is going to cost us 2,000$ every month! I wish we could buy an older RV like ya'll did!! There are many ways you can save while traveling! We travel a ton and while we travel we do it affordably so we can travel MORE! Since we own our own business and also have a few other means of income we travel anytime we wish too. I know your going to have so much fun!! I am following along!

When we would stay atvquest self serviced apartment although seeing family was priceless it was expensive we are not wealthy on welfare and psying government rent was very financially drainning we ended up $1700 in debt with threat of eviction.we stopped travelling stsyed home secured our rental property debt is $170 noe

How big is it? Looks under 28 ft which is what you want. Difficult to get into state and national parks with anything over that. Did you also buy a truck ?
In the 70s, the same kind of stuff was going on then, thst is now. We went from La, up east side, into canada at Great Lakes. Across canada to BC and down into Washington, Oregon, N Ca, yo some t, glacier, all over and back to La. Then did the whole homestead thing… it’s funny you don’t hear more folks talking about it, but it was the same then. Except gas lines and very high fuel. Anyway, have fun!
Thanks! That sounds like a great adventure! This trailer is 31ft (not including the hitch). We tried to go as small as we could, but with 5 people it is hard to find one any smaller with the right floor plan.
How long do you anticipate your renovations will take? Where do you plan to go first? Very excited for you! It will be an excellent adventure!
We hope to be finished and moved in within 6 weeks! First, we are going farther south for the winter 😂Then in the spring are thinking of doing the northeast coast before heading out west 😁

LOL! We have been using Build Your Library for the past few years and love it! We also have used some online sources - Crash Course, Wondrium, Khan Academy, and Outschool.
Where does the baby sleep? What vehicles can tow that ? Have fun.
Baby sleeps in our room. A F250 truck will easily pull this, possibly an F150. The trailer is just under 8000lbs all in.

Because of the high cost of living I am thinking of living full time in a trailer. I am homeless and 95 percent of my family is dead. I am 44. I am staying in a homeless shelter but I just got a job recently. I have some questions.
How are you going to get your mail??
What if your kids get mad at you and say that you are humiliating them because of mean kids and adults telling them that they are Trailer Trash? Are you really happy with the decision you have made??

We are! Solar panels aren't in our budget right away, but I am thinking that will be something we add in the near future :)

Definitely. We drive a Toyota Corolla now so that is not going to work 😂 We are working on selling this vehicle and buying a truck. But still researching the truck we want.
thats all great just wont be able to go RV resort places that dont allow RV's over ten years old but yall should be good.. pay attention to all your weight rquirements... not just what you can pull. all axles, hitch weight etc etc.. lol anyway , best of wishes you guys... enjoy the adventures

To start, I have mostly just watched YT how-to videos 😂 There is sooo much to learn and I am definitely still learning, but it such is a fun process! I haven’t really invested any money into it. I use my iPhone to record, iMovie to edit, and the free version of the Photoshop app to do thumbnails. I have bought a small tripod but that is it! I need to get a mic but haven’t found the right one yet. Anyway, you can do it!
