    The Pre Order is nothing new. It is as old as the retail industry. But the rise of the Pre Order Industry is something that I feel will be shown more and more in 2024, especially in our small sector of the goodyear/handwelted industry.
    A lot has changed since the pandemic, especially for companies that hold a stock of products and also how business-to-business relationships are managed when it comes to the supply of materials to make said products.
    Due to this change, companies have had to roll with the punches and by doing so, hedge their bets, so to speak. One way of doing this is through the Pre Order system of placing your large orders and allowing people to pre-purchase your stock before it has actually arrived. This phenomenon is going to rapidly grow in my opinion, so here I discuss why and to let you know what made it come about and to be prepared for it to become more prevalent.

    The pandemic was an assault on small business (among other crimes). Let's try to support small businesses like Justin's as much as possible!

    It’s even worse than that: the days of predictable overhead are long gone.

    You’re right about China. Grant Stone has every CXL color in the rainbow. Shoes, loafers, boots. I can’t say the same about Western brands!

    Very informative. Enjoyed the information. I just noticed it on C&J website. Now I know why they've launched the system.

    Hey Justin, thank you for a very enlightening and informative podcast, well done. I collect pocket knives as well and the pre-order is huge, with just about all companies big and small using it. If you want a particular knife, you had better pre-order it or else you'll never get it. Thanks again and I look forward to your next episode!

    I'm 40, so preordering as a millenial, been around my entire life. Just WAY more prevalent now. I'm not into shoes/menswear anymore just cuz life changes etc but I still very much enjoy keeping tabs in the industry. I work in biz so what you were talking about is par for the course and ez to understand. I still have you emails from 2018 and I've known about you since Hugo introduced you (I think? I don't remember how I first got to know you). Still rock you shoes when I can and they're still great. Anyway, preordering now at my age, I'm wary due to scams in other industry (custom keebs is big one as a past interest of mine...there are other industries) and based here in SF, I've known about China quietly buying everything for decades now (Sonoma/Napa wine). When China buys into somethings, their track record is mixed in terms of keeping the quality. And if you don't kiss the ring youll end up like Jack Ma. So I'm waaaay more cynical now bout small/new brands reaching out unless they have lineage (like they worked at a bigger company and you've known about them).
    I would make a talk about geo politics/peoples shift in attitudes etc but yea....Appreciate you putting this out there. Good luck man. Cheers from the best coast 😛

    So what I don't get about preordering shoes is the following: are people just blindly buying shoes where they have no clue if the shoes fit or do you then only have the customer base that has shoes on that last already?

    • @theshoesnob_official
      @theshoesnob_official  8 месяцев назад

      Both. If there is a good return policy in place many people do not feel they have to try the shoe first if they know they can return it.

      @@theshoesnob_official but with most MTO you can't return them, right? At least from my experience.

    Thank you! Could you make a video covering a few high end Chinese shoe makers? I had no idea they exist.
    P.S.
    Now I understand why you have no stock in the eu shop 😅

    • @theshoesnob_official
      @theshoesnob_official  8 месяцев назад

      All of the Chinese makers have been reviewed in the Unboxing Series Playlist. Check them.out ;-)
      And yea, to duplicate my stock for the EU would cost aroumd €500,000 at least ;-)

    Please enlighten me, what is the difference between pre sales and pre order?

    • @theshoesnob_official
      @theshoesnob_official  7 месяцев назад

      For my brand I use the terms as such: Pre Order is ordering something that has already been ordered and is in production already. Pre Sale is purchasing something we are showcasing and the stock (and presales) will be ordered after the pre sale period.

    Thank you for sharing Justin. It's always nice to hear the explanation of how things are from experience, not just opinions. I follow a business selling garage and car related stuff, and they had to change quite alot during the pandemic. He shares much of his thoughts on RUclips just to be transparent and build relationships rather than just customers, and I found a video from a couple of years ago that you might find interesting even though it's in a different industry than yours ruclips.net/video/rtCKj3gYBMo/видео.htmlsi=P13sHymCO0ufKsBj
