As much as I love playing RPGs, I'd be very impressed by streamers who can make playing them entertaining, especially to a more general audience, and even more so if they can make the side quests just as entertaining as how they work on the main quests. Doing my own streams of such games especially got me realizing that.
I'm impressed by any streamer that can make any stream interesting. I can't even talk why playing anything. In discord call while waiting friend to finally show up, playing to spend time and stream it so other people are not bored to death. Then they ask question, I had to pause to answer. It takes certain skill to stream really.
I watch Jon/ManyATrueNerd but he doesn't typically stream the RPGs... I think he's quite entertaining but he streams like once a week at most, basically, and everything else is edited. And that's why I watch him. Although, I think I watched like a 3 hour video essay on why Fallout 76 failed, because he's just such a Bethesda fan he can make that entertaining. I really think that streaming RPGs especially would be among the hardest to make entertaining, other than maybe extremely casual games like that Cozy Cats puzzle game or whatever? I feel like people probably watch those more to de-stress or something than be entertained lol. (He's also played that) Tbf, I don't even tend to watch streamers... I like the edited stuff. Give me the highlights and cut out the dead space. The only benefit live streams have over edited content, imo, is live chat... and that only matters to me if I'm in it and get noticed lmao. That said, I've watched some streams, like Pina Pengin's Subnautica.
The streamers/youtubers I watch most are the ones that heavily favor playing RPGs. I don't think it's that hard to make them entertaining if you're passionate about them and having a good time. Although you still need be a skilled entertainer in general. It's a shame that so few talents on the EN side are into RPGs the way the JP talents are. Playing JRPGs is pretty commonplace over there. Subaru has played dozens of them over the last few years. Not sure I can ever claim a true EN oshi until I find someone that likes RPGs the way I do.
To this day, I've played Skyrim maybe 10 times throughout the years and I've yet to ever make it maybe 30% of the way through the story quest. I don't think I've ever gotten the final shout part of Fus-ro-dah. I always get completely lost in doing side stuff and just exploring.
I feel like you should beat it once because the Civil War is probably the most interesting fully curated thing they did. Though, there's a reason I feel Oblivion is almost entirely better. Dragons are freaking cool, though... but if Oblivion had dragons? No contest.
The final part of FUS-ROH-DA is always where I stop. After that I just say “Thanks for the super powers old men!” and proceed to try and become a wizard but eventually fall back into stealth archer. Then I download a million combat mods that don’t work together and break the game.
i gotta do whatever side quests and exploring I want before I beat the main quest cause I instantly lose all motivation to keep playing after I finish the story
There is no wrong way to play RPGs. To be fair I don't think I have ever completed a single RPG without getting sidetracked by side stuff for 20+ hours. My first playthrough of skyrim took over a hundred hours and I honestly didn't even realize I had stopped following the MSQ after meet the first jarl. Was like damn this is a long quest line lol.
In fairness, Bethesda's strengths are in the exploration, world-building, lore, and so many of the corpses having notes or terminal entries and stories. The exact opposite of BioWare (imo) and what like lol. A compelling main story and memorable companions. Honestly, another mostly good series for that is basically every Hitman except Absolution, which for some reason tried to do the opposite approach of their usual lol. And of course, is the one I like most because of that. I actually gave some feedback in a survery at some point between Absolution and the new trilogy, where I basically said, "I like how there was such a straightforward story presentation, but I don't think any of your normal fans did. If possible, you should have a lot more possible detail to find for those willing to look, but give me something easy to follow." and I think they did just that. But anyway, I think I'd recommend those and maybe some other Obsidian stuff, too? For people like Gigi who prefer to explore and make their own story.
I am the same with RPGs. Most of the time, I am like, "The main story/quest can wait. I am going to look around, do side quests and find all the collectibles...". Before you know it, I have sunken many hours into the game with a significant chunk of the story left to go through. I still enjoy playing like that, but I can see why that's probably not the best idea, if you are a streamer....
I mean, a lot of viewers probably don't care about you beating the story all that much if it's an older game they already beat (or watched someone else beat)... as long as you interact with your chat and entertain them by having fun yourself... it's probably fine.
Was wondering what the heck she was talking about before I realized she means specifically Western RPGs. Like, what is she gonna do in Pokemon besides follow the main plot? How is she going to deviate from the main story in FFX?
you getting lost because exploration and lore
I got lost because I have no sense of direction
we are not the same
lmao
I need to have google on the side when ever I play rpg’s so when I inevitably get lost, I can get back.
But isn't this how you play Fallout? I mean, when I played Fallout 2 for the first time it took me eight ingame years to find the GECK.

Based tbh. Enjoy the game at your own pace and style. The # of hours don't matter if you're enjoying them

I can see why Gigi likes some of these KMMOs. Pay to win as they are, some of them have real interesting set pieces spread throughout the world.

Accurate and understandable. Also, Nyahallo.

@@Paradox-es3bl If it's a "Do whatever you want" game like Minecraft, it's probably easier....
Okay get it, Terraria for you my child 🫵😎
Sounds like a top tier Skyrim player.
We're probably never touching the main story if she plays RDR2
Or any of the Yakuza games.
Well that's Dragon quest thrown out of the window then!
She should try Fable 1 since its linear.
