    So glad I discovered the Rene Herse tires from this video awhile back. I've been running the 42mm Hurricane Ridge tires since the spring and they are amazing. I used them at the Cedar City BWR this year, and there was plenty of grip and comfort (27 psi in the front, 30 psi in the rear), with no flats. These tires are bulletproof.

    • @pmharr91
      @pmharr91 3 года назад

      How are they on pavement? Coming from 38c Riddlers, which has much less aggressive lugs

    • @drouleau
      @drouleau 3 года назад

      @@pmharr91 I don't mind them on pavement really - they roll surprisingly well for a lugged tire. If I were trying to squeeze every possible second out of them in a race with a lot of pavement, I'd prob go with another tire, but for riding that most people will do, they are great.

    We know your love for the Boutigue Rene Herse tires. How about that sweet perch! The Berthoud Galibier. With many running “run of the mill mass produced”, it’s interesting your affinity for these leather hand crafted bad boys. Are you still smitten?

    Hey @Ted King .... No sure how much you get into the geeky details. Are you able to run a *normal* Sram Red AXS crankset on a SuperX, or do you need to have the Special 'Cannondale Ai' version?

  • @wotnobrain
    @wotnobrain 5 лет назад +2

    Ted, that's a great bike you have there!
    How's the clearance between your 42mm rear tyre and your SRAM AXS front derailleur? Apparently 42c is the maximum recommended, would that be an issue with heavy mud? Do you have extra-long chain stays?

    • @TedKing1
      @TedKing1  5 лет назад +3

      That's a wide rim and a wide 42c tire. I've ridden 44c slicks no problem on that bike. I don't want you to push the envelope, but there's still plenty of room to spare with this set up. Peanut butter mud is a different story. The bike has Ai rear triangle so they're actually a bit shorter than normal, if I'm not mistaken, which helps you grip the ground and ride ridiculously fast.

    Ted what size bike you use? Looks like you size down . Wondering if I should do that for my next road bike and go 52cm I'm 5foot 8 and currently on a 54

    • @DaveCM
      @DaveCM 3 года назад +1

      I personally size down. On road I ride a 58 and a 56 on gravel. The fit is great. Do you have a way to test ride to make sure it would work for you?

    I’m debating on upgrading from my Topstone to the SuperX. I have the aluminum version but upgraded everything on it to force1. I upgraded the wheelset to i9 trail 270 wheels. Rocking the 650bx47c. Do you think the SuperX will take the 650b x 47 tires and have enough clearance for mud? I’m getting into my first gravel races in 2020 and possibly a cyclocross race.

    Am I guessing Cannondale didn't want you hyping their cross bike up too much when they introduced their new gravel bike a week after DK200?

    • @johnfarr5415
      @johnfarr5415 5 лет назад +4

      I do find it interesting that NONE of the sponsored Cannondale riders rode the new Topstone Carbon. Then I went to my LBS to look at them as I'm in the market and I found out that it comes with 37c tires and will only take a 40c tire. I'm not sure WTF Cannondale thinks this market is but they clearly aren't listening to their pros or looking at what successful gravel bikes are doing. Their BB is too high and they need more tire clearance.

    • @TedKing1
      @TedKing1  5 лет назад +4

      @@johnfarr5415 the bike wasn't available yet at Dirty Kanza. I have a hunch we all would have been on the Topstone if that option was available. I've been riding it ever since it's been in my fleet and I love it.

    • @johnfarr5415

      @@TedKing1 Thanks for the response. Kinda stunned they didn't have it ready for you guys for DK to be honest. As a PA boy I've always loved C'dales and had a few over the years. Was looking at the Carbon Topstone but the tire clearance is holding me back (as is the high BB). In your video you talk about tire choice and how you went with the 42mm tires and I know the SuperX has plenty of mud clearance for those. What are your feelings on the new bike regarding the tire limitation? I'm thinking for those of us who don't have a stable of gravel bikes it's a better choice to go with one that's got more clearance.
