    Round the world solo interview is the most inspiring and motivating thing I’ve seen in a long time, good look to him he deserves every win he gets.

    22:42. I assume that's to reduce drag and lower the center of gravity in the boat to make it just that little bit faster? I'm referring to the crew of course.

      Sad that Australia doesn't have a team of it's own in the Americas Cup, then you could take the bragging rights for yourselves. Kiwi's (New Zealanders) have won the Americas Cup 3 times now. Guess there's no billionaire in Australia willing to give it another crack, either too stingy or too scared of losing.

    Hard to tease out any real information from WSS, but it was interesting to see that the new AC boats do flying tacks, apparently quite easily and quickly. That may mean that we'll see real racing rather than mere technological boredom.

    I disliked the way the section on TC was presented. It left me thinking that he is an arrogant man. I’m pleased that members of the YT community have better informed me of his humility and outstanding work ethic. I wish him every success in his future ventures.

    • @soccianet9853

      Curious why you would feel that way. In my opinion It was quite touching. When he says "for the first time i was able to accept myself" show how high of a standard he sets for himself. He never said everyone should do that. He doesn't judge the lifechoices of other people.
      I think, given the amount of sacrifices and efforts it take to complete such an endeavour, his feeling are sincere.
      I think saying listening to him make you want to puke is a bit of an overeaction

      @@ficklemedia8733 Strange. How is he supposed to do the things he does without a high opinion of himself. To circumnavigate the planet solo you have to believe in yourself without question. And at the start of his clip he was talking about the team effort not himself. I feel you jump the gun when it comes to judging
      people.

      Fickle phunk
      I think you have not understood the man ... we feel that Thomas has spent his adult life fighting himself, fighting against a profound feeling of incapacity, coming from childhood most likely. and in his sporting history of hunting records or failures are more numerous than victories he had to forge a mind to avoid sinking into the feeling that nothing succeeds him, that everything is doomed to failure ... moreover the choice of this sport is not trivial: only he must succeed by himself and find in himself the strength to love if others have not done for him (his parents? his father ?) Anyway we guess a deep wound that he tries to heal ... you add to that the long years of failed attempts during which he doubted more than anyone and you will understand better ... must also emphasize the commitment absolutely remarkable sodebo: 10 years of confidence never disowned with a skipper, even in failure it is very rare ...

    • @ficklemedia8733

      wdoochild thanks for your carefully considered and presented reply. It’s seems RUclips has really evolved in this sense. I take on all your points fully and I accept that I made A brash and highly judgemental comment in a very public place. I was, however, just being honest. Nausea was my genuine feeling after the first five minutes of this interview. In our modern world I find sincerity to be rarer than a solo circumnavigation. I’m sure that if I met him I would feel very differently. So....perhaps the problem is not with the man but with the way the interview is presented. It seemed to be very intent on painting him as soon kind of hero but I feel that is not what solo sailors are. Brave and adventurous certainly. Heroic I feel not. Thanks again for your reply. It made me stop and think which we all need to do more often.

    Why a mono-hull? I don't get it. I mean the thing still flys like a cat. Are they trying to bring back the romance of the old days?
    I'm not sure I would want to do a nosedive or get to far out of shape in it. I love the old AC mono-hulls, why don't they just do that?

    • @jameslittlewood7663

      The old AC monohulls were slow compared to what they're introducing now. The sport has become more exciting to the casual viewer, meaning more eyes on the event and therefore more ad revenue.

    PERSONALLY I HATE,
    unfortunately, the CONSTANT cut from one video shot to the next. I can’t even make out WTF is really going on before the video jumps to another. HATE. IT.
    It’s just “gee whiz look at the cool boaty thingy’s flying over the wa...WOW...ANOTHER coo...WOW...Yet ANOTH...”
    I know this is free but I assume it is NOT for the masses. It’s for sailors.
    Not ADHD patients. Correct??

    The americas cup races is going in the wrong direction, it will end up like the Formula 1 races, the team with the most money and the best ingeneers will win. this has nothing to do with the original sports idea which will decide who is the best sailor, not who have the most money. This spoiles the sport ! One design boats will be the best solution for who is the best team, and will save a ton of money that could come to better use, the Environment for example ! I dont like the thought that it is the team with the most money that wins, not the best sportsmen !

      This is uninformed. 1, The Team with probably the smallest budget won it last time (TeamNZ) 2, This time around a lot of the expensive parts are all one design, for both safety and fairness. If anything it's heading in the opposite direction from what you think.

      To be honest compared to the last few America's Cups the AC75 from this one are much closer to a one design class than the old catamarans

    • @kujon1968
      @kujon1968 5 лет назад

      All the innovations will be good for sailing as the designs and ideas become more affordable and common for smaller budgets

      This happened in the first America’s cup: The sustained winds of the Solent that August 22 seemed to have hidden somewhere, and the great schooner America slowly succeeded in moving away from the adversaries, exploiting also the sails that for the English were still unknown: while the British still troubled with the sails in linen, America sported the first cotton sails, a true revolution that gave rise to the era of modern yachting. money and technology always lead to victory.

    • @jameslittlewood7663
      @jameslittlewood7663 5 лет назад

      Yeah nah. Thomas Lipton himself commented "if you're worried about the money, you can't afford it" back in about 1900. And this AC and the last one were sailed in boats with a high degree of one-design.
