The oligarchs are blaming Elvira Nabiullina, the head of Russia's Central Bank, for the economic malaise. Hello? There's an elephant in the room (well, he looks more like a newt than an elephant).

Russia's defense budget has reached a record 13.2 trillion rubles. One-third of the state budget is now the military budget. Russia's “eminent economist” Shilyaev has warned that this budget is “suicidal! The policy rate, which was 19 percent in September, has since been raised to 21 percent. As a result, “people's savings will plummet, and repayments on mortgages and corporate loans will rise sharply. Trillions of rubles in the National Welfare Fund, which pools oil revenues, will be completely exhausted.
If the Putin regime continues the war, the Russian people will be hit with an unprecedented economic jitters in late 2025, inflation will spiral out of control.”

This is interesting, because the Russian Central Bank is actually independent to announce the interest rate whenever they want. So this is an interesting development.

Let's not pretend. Putin called Ms. Nabiullina and told her that a much-needed rate hike is politically undesirable. Poor Elvira glanced nervously at her window and replied: "Da, Vladimir Vladimirovich".
