  • Stephen Mulhern and Danielle Nicholls present around an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and we also get promos for the brand new series of The Worst Witch and Pokemon, a competition winner, and more.
I'm pretty sure that CITV's Half Toon Week took place in October 1999, but I'll await confirmation in the comments before I commit to a precise broadcast date. [EDIT: ‪@JHarper08‬ in the comments strongly suspects Wednesday 27th October and provides specific clues, which I agree with.] This tallies with the release of Disney's Tarzan, though, and the ad breaks feature both a trailer and a cereal tie-in for that, while I was also taken by those Viper snakeboards - not something you see every day. I was less taken by that patronising late-bandwagon-jumping 'girl power' 'I can do anything' Barbie ad, but your mileage may vary.
I wonder what exactly was on that Kinder Surprise CD. I miss the days of digging through interactive cover discs and the like, for reasons I can't really explain (or fathom).
Huge thanks to ‪@David315842‬ for sending me this tape.
(If you're a copyright holder and have any objections, please feel free to contact me. Alternatively, I haven't monetised the video, so you're welcome to do so, and that way everybody wins.)

This must be 27 October, 1999 (exactly 24 years today)
    - October half term from what I can remember is usually the last or second to last week of October
    - It was on a Wednesday based on the graphics from 4:00 and the presenters were promoting what was on CITV the next day from 4:16
    - Disney's Tarzan was released on 22 October, 1999 (according to IMDB), at 7:20 it states its already in cinemas
    Loving the content btw

Thank you so much! I was hoping that might be the case - I've updated the description.

That's correct. As this was aired during the October half-term of 1999. :) The date does make sense. :)

Always great seeing more CITV from this era. God i forgot about those Get Set boxes, i think i had a chocolate maker one. I have a Sydewynder advert from a 1998 CITV ad break, so interesting to see it was still going strong a year later, apparently it was a big craze at the time, but as a 90s kid it completely passed me by.. And i think that GMTV promo was my very first experience of Pokemon which was shown constantly on the morning of it's premiere, really nice to see it again.

I think one of my many tapes should have that ad for the Get Set Chocolate Maker as well. :) Yep GMTV was I imagine a lot of first people's exposure to Pokémon and probably anime in general, if they haven't seen shows like teh first seasons of Willy Fog or Dogtanian.

Oh that will be great to see :) This revived a childhood memory from the deepest recesses of my brain lol. Yeah it was my first anime for sure. When i first saw the ad i went "What the hell is that?" lol it was like nothing i had ever seen before. But after watching the first episode i was hooked.

@@HalfbrickVHSIt actually began on SM:TV Live, but the story continued on GMTV throughout that October half-term as I recall. :) I'm glad to see that it brought you back so much nostalgia. :)

I like to thank my 15-year-old self for recording this. :D But honestly thanks again for uploading this. This really brings back a LOT of nostalgia for me. :) Ah yes, the good ol' days when music CD's can double for CD-ROMs on Windows PC's. :D Also I just want to point this out but I HATED the fact that the trailer called Miss Bat in The Worst Witch a new teacher, when she was clearly in Series 1, the previous year. Yeah, I watched the 1998-2000 Worst Witch series.

I thank your 15-year-old self as well, and you're welcome! It's easy to forget that era when interactive CDs contained relatively basic but nevertheless entertaining stuff. Thinking back, I suppose we appreciated it because it would have taken about a week to download that sort of thing on dial-up speeds.

@@VideotapeFTW Indeed. :) One thing that was common in those days were CD singles or albums containing a CD-ROM version of their music videos, or say cereals giving away CD-ROM's that contained various mini games or previews. I recall Nestle had such a promotion with Disney around this time, 1999 or 2000, but yeah there might be a commercial somewhere for said promotion. Oh, and as for that Kinder CD, I saw it being auctioned on eBay right now. ;)

Hey! Hope you're well, I can't remember if I ever asked you about any Batman/Superman animated continuity from CITV, or anything Batman of the Future related

Funnily enough Amber (great job with your voice actor interview work BTW) I do believe that I think I have some of those on my tapes somewhere as I had recorded the episodes, especially Batman of the Future when it was on Sunday Mornings. So, some could appear in the future?

@@David315842 that's great to hear - the rare sci-fi drama series 'Life Force' was shown right after Batman of the Future for much of its CITV run here as well, which I and few others have wanted to see again for what feels like ages now (it's never been repeated or made available to stream in the UK since!). Even if your recordings don't have any full episodes of that alongside it, it'd be nice to see the surrounding continuity :)

      @David315842 10 месяцев назад +1

@@aftermath_96 I'm sorry to say that I didn't record any of Life Force sorry, and I think my recordings stop short during or after Batman's end credits. But at least you'll see the continuity and there may be a trailer or two for the series but that's all I can think of.

@@David315842 no need for apologies, and it will still be good seeing anything related at all from that time - if there's one thing I've realised in looking for the series years after, it's that barely anyone taped it! Myself included sadly, very much wish I had now...
