This coin is literally the holy grail of American coins. They were all melted down, none were supposed to survive. This could be the ONLY coin of its kind left on the planet. Best I can do is 5 bucks. Okay, okay.. I'll budge on my price. 6 bucks and a 12 pack of socks. I'm taking a risk here. I'll have to send it off somewhere, get it framed, pay for my dance lessons and then it's gonna sit on a shelf for a few centuries before it sells.

That coin is correctly pronounced "deem", but a lot of peeps even in the coin biz pronounce it dizz-me on purpose. Disme is originally a French word. The distinction Rick is making is "first coin struck by the fledgling US Mint". There were older coins made in America AND older designs called the 1783 Nova Constellatios that were authorized by the government to be made as patterns for a new decimal monetary system for the US. Those coins and the units they came in (called "mills") ultimately didn't take hold, but some coin peeps think that the few Nova patterns still in existence are the TRUE first coins to be authorized by the govt, before the Mint was online. Two of the Nova patterns were composed in 100 and 500 mill units. The 100 mill Nova is called a "mark" and the 500 Nova is called a "quint". They sold for $705K and $1.175M, respectively, in recent years at auction.

I have held a Liberia’s americana! One turned up at our local coin shop(Prescott, AZ) the coin shop bought a big bag of obsolete European coins for something like $10 without looking through it. Fast forward a couple years and on a slow day the owner decides to dig through all the “junk” bags he has under the counter and Lo and behold he pulls out one of these puppies! He sent it off to PCGS and it came back ms61. Holding this coin was one of the coolest experiences of my life! To think that I was holding a coin that was once held by Franklin. He sold the coin a few months later at a bid ANA auction for something like 26k. It was not the most valuable coin I have ever held but it was definitely the coolest.

2 things 1. It is a Half Dime (Disme is the french spelling of Dime.) 2. Although G. Washington may have been there for the first few minted he did not use Martha's silver set. Thomas Jefferson Deposited $75 in silver into the treasury and a about a week later received $75 in coin from the mint, He then proceeded to pay for things with them throughout the August recess from congress. He Journals the first decimal coin usage in the united states in his personal journal. So if you are lucky enough to own one you are in possession of an item T. Jefferson owned in 1792. I find it funny that the term "gotta make some money on it" applies to any item regardless of its value. So a coin talking up less space than a pack of sugar earning them $20k is the same as $200 on an old arcade machine. So asking for another $30k is really scummy imo.
