I always wanted the Eugen (as a historical ship) but the reviews all said that she was a re-skinned hipper (which is faint praise to begin with). I'm really happy with what they have done with the two ships. The PE is great fun to play and I will eventually go back and re-buy the Hipper. Still don't want any German cruiser between T3 and T7.

Since the Fire arcs are not great why don't you get double rudder? Fast manuverability/setting all guns on target and avoiding dmg comfortablly. The concealment is still decent even then 13 km.
one thing you forgot the bring up iChase is that the Prinz (like the Hipper) if hit with HE bring guns 11 inch or bigger it will lose its engine and it dose have a high chance of been detonated as i've found out the hard way so for any battle ships plays if you see a Prinz/Hipper and you want to piss them off HE is the way to do it

You mention that the Cannon Angles are difficult sometimes. Can you tell us some cruisers where you can angle your ships armor properly and still shoot all guns?
I won a Prinz in a super container ages ago but as I had a Hipper I never really played her I think I need to get her out of mothballs and try her out again, as for that Russian DD they are just so annoying constantly spamming the long range HE just drives me crazy
Should mention about what you said about not about being citadeled close range.. its true.. except for USN cruisers you can brawl 3km away and still get citadeled by high tier USN cruisers. Just tested this out in my DM to play with its shell arcs against a hipper

My only complaint with Eugen and Hipper right now is the weak engine protection. Getting citadel by BB, boom, broken engine. Getting shot by a Moskva HE, boom, broken engine. I always find myself wasting damage cont. on broken engine more than I use it on fire.
Strong recommendation: While you definitely want to keep CE on your captain, forego the concealment upgrade mod on this ship. Instead, equip Propulsion 2 and Stearing 3. Turns a normally sluggish cruiser into a very responsive one that turns quickly and accelerates quickly. The way I see it, you'll spend the start of the battle at long range well outside your concealment range. And once you push in to brawl, you'll be pretty much lit up continuously unless masked by island over. This ship doesn't really do concealment that well when you compare to, say, the Atago. For my captain build, shared with Hindy: 1) PT, PM, EL 2) AR 3) SI, DE 4) CE, AFT
You can get it for free on EU if u didnt play the game for 1 month, then u come back and win 5x ranked battle. Active players must pay for it...do u really want to buy PE?
So I am retrying the hipper and have question. Broadside bb and cl at 14-15k range at the begging of the game. Fired 3 salvos of ap all shatters. What range is Hipper AP usable.
At any range, but you don't want to aim at the waterline with her AP on battleships. Aim at the super structure instead. For CL I think it is more likely you were getting overpens than shatters.

It was a buff to German HE quite a while back + you can test it by shooting side of Khab where it has 50mm armour and u'll pen, with other nations 203mm HE u'll shatter.
Atago is beast. That 9.1 surface detection with a 10pt captain is awesome. One of the only cruisers that can realistically stealth-torpedo targets. (10km torpedo range.) It also has a heavy alpha-strike broadside and VERY good HE damage and fire chance, like all IJN cruisers. But Prinz Eugen has better HE pen, and is generally much tankier due to superior armor schemes, plus noticeably better AA even if you completely ignore all AA mods and skills. IJN AA is a bit anemic compared to other nations' at similar tiers. German Hydroacoustic Search is amazing, and should not be ignored.
Think of Atago like a fat DD. Think of Eugen like a baby battleship. They play quite differently so I find so it's not great to compare. - Eugen: Start with long range shelling and wait until you can find a good hole to poke through and brawl. Don't worry about being visible as you can angle against battleship shells without much difficulty. Focus on AP use if you can. - Atago: Use your ridiculously good concealment to support your DDs. Use ambush tactics to utterly waste everything with your amazing torpedoes. Those same torpedoes that can actually be fired from concealment! Focus on HE use overall as it's so damn strong. Be careful not to get focused by battleships and they can and will wreck you as your citadel is reeeally easy to hit.

Anything that cant autooverpen will burn you down and you dont have teh uper hand in close combat tehy angle away and DPS you down with your heal having little impact sice you cant really disengage from Kamikaze rushes. PE isnt Atago. Atago had the IJN HE DPS and offensive Torpedo angles before she got the heal. And hydor is bad thing since your depend even if you light DDs up you are depending on someone else to kill the DD most of theime becasue of you abysmal low ROF.

the Atago has 9.1 km concealment, you can stealth fire torps with it if you want and the alpha of the guns is high. it is a quite strong cruiser, it is just that most people don't know how to play it. but that doesn't mean it needs a buff.
10, 203mm guns... The burst dmg is monstrous - you have the biggest broadside. Considering typical unrivalled Japanese dispersion - you can nuke any broadsided cruiser up to 12km.
depends on what you mean with "not very good". if you mean bad then you're wrong. If you mean it doesn't excel at anything then you totally right. German high tier cruisers are jacks of all trades and that makes them so fun to play in my opinion. you can basically deal with any situation.
Versatile: Jack of all Trades Master of none ~ is the correct description here. This is why Hindenburg is considered one of the greatest cruisers in the game, as it is so versatile.

I did that with my Hipper, in the last season of ranked, at like rank 5, against two Bismarcks. And won.
Tried that and got completely eaten before I could get in torp range and angled for launch. This has NEVER worked for me since I've gotten the Eugen.
With this buff, she feels more like what she is in my opinion, The Fresh Prinz of Berlin!

You can also citadel slightly angled cruisers. I had multiple citadel volleys on a Graf Spee that was angled about 20 degrees or so at around 10km.

Since the heal buff, I built my Eugen to be a DD hunter, and my Hipper is now a full blown AA build.

Setup idea: take AFT & Manual AA on the captain + AA range mod. You have enough AA for t8 & t9 and are able to run hydro.

For self defense it's perfectly sufficient.
For area defence you're in a wrong ship.
The German cruiser line should have access to both hydro and def. AA, but nope they need to have to make game static.

Eugen is tankier in every sense - she can bounce 380mm shells easily. Her AP also completely wrecks other cruisers.
