  • Lesson link: banjobenclark.... - Red Apple Rag was one of the first mandolin tunes I learned, and it's been stuck in my teeth ever since! This is a great fiddle tune played in both bluegrass and western swing circles, but I really like it because it proposes lots of licks that can be transferred to other situations. The song, and this particular arrangement, is very scale based. This makes it easier to take the licks of this song and use them easily for fills in other tunes as well!

    out here in the llano estacado there is such a void of people who can play anywhere near Banjo Bens level of expertise..... so you can imagine, when your in the desert, any opportunity to check out people playing live for an audience requires actively asking around... cuz even when people entertain live, it's usally in a "hole of some adobe wall" with no advertising or anything...
