Interestingly, there is hidden size 0 text at the end of the article, it reads “Fred knew they'd have found him where he was hiding before, and so he slipped into this little-known place, hoping his new hiding spot could shelter him, not realizing it was already occupied.”
Fred probably refers to SCP-423, a being with no physical form that often goes into text documents and books and rewrites the story to include himself or his name, Fred, in some way or other, which would make sense why he shows up in an unrelated SCP document.
It seems that Fred has gone onto the SCP-2173 document to hide himself from the Foundation, only to run into the Pattern Screamers, who were already inhabiting the file. This is probably a callback to another Pattern Screamer article, “SCP-000”, where a pattern screamer is trapped in the broken SCP-000 file, and communicates its thoughts through hidden white text in the article.

This article is so complicated with so many backstories its hard to keep track of what's even going on. Did the 2173-1 entities just get rocked so hard by another scp that they decided their FOB wasn't worth it anymore? Was every interaction just bad timing and misunderstandings by outside interference from other scps?
Interesting. I'm familiar with that text, and I had always taken 'Frank' to be the name of Person of Interest 'Ephialtes'. The text is an explanation for why his body wasn't found, and why the pattern screamers were able to invade; 'Ephialtes' found their space, and he is either still there or they killed him.

Basically the article was about this race of humans from another dimension, 2173-1, in contact with the chaos insurgency and were preparing to go to war with the foundation then the pattern screamers made themselves known and attacked everyone then 2173-1 was like "oh hell no" and dipped. Pretty hilarious honestly.

Pattern Screamers are basically survivors from a previous or alternate reality which faced an existential threat/death/destruction. They tried to flee it and ended up trapped in the form of "patterns" within the world, so deeply hidden that they're basically imperceptible by everyone besides the Foundation and similar groups (sometimes not even them). They're trying to get noticed, screaming for attention as they remain trapped in that agonizing form. Iirc, the more people know about them, the more powerful they become.
In one article they are responsible for the near genocide of an interstellar human civilisation, Earth being the single planet that managed to escape them by regressing technologically and somehow removing all knowledge of the Screamers from the populace.

I thought that was what happened, but I was like "no it can't be that anticlimactic, not after all that build-up," but I guess the build up was ACTUALLY for the pattern screamers the whole time. Made the actual SCP pack up and fold lmao.

Actually (as far I understand) they hate everything that exists because they dont fully exist. They currently exist as either like, living, sentient concepts or information, such as data.
The Screamers inside the foundation system are, I believe, only one of a number of groups of Pattern Screamers
I like SCPs that potray the Insurgency as more than cartoon villains and get into the reasons why someone would defect.
I like how if you dig deep enough into some things you can find a PatternScreamer. I also like how they show up in other anomalies like " Look at Me!"
I run a homebrew sci fi rpg setting where the handwavium ftl travel is called "Pattern Shifting" you'd best believe that there have been heavy hints at "screamers in the pattern"

Wow, been an SCP fan for 7 years or so and this is the first article that actually justifies the Chaos Insurgency’s existence. Theyre so often shown as just some vague military opposition with unexplained goals, but this is such a cool take.

This is a bit of an odd one. The SCP entry itself feels like they had a few solid ideas, but couldn't stick the landing so inserted a pattern screamers reference in at the end. It comes entirely out of nowhere. The bits are good, but they don't all quite work together.
Two sides go to war and then a third side comes in and wreaks mutual destruction onto both sides, so the invaders say fuck that shit, you're on your own, and they bail

The portal was an experiment by an ex-foundation researcher, who was experimenting with international transport, and attempting communication with the other side, when something went wrong, and he left the foundation and joined the chaos insurgency. The foundation took note of this and hunted him down as a threat, taking down the group he was a part of, but the Chaos insurgency, didn't take kindly to his and bombed the GOC and SCP vehicles, presumably not knowing that the device was inside of a foundation vehicle, the device then opened a one way gateway for the entities to cross into our reality, they could get in (I assume they had a portal to get in) but the foundation cannot enter because the atmosphere spontaneously replaces with another atmosphere, the entities and foundation fought for a while, in the background of all this the pattern screamers mess with documents a whole bunch, eventually figuring out how to crash computers, probably deletes some important stuff related to the original creator of the transporter. And eventually desides to threaten the foundation by blowing up every explosive within the area, causing the anomalies to leave and never return. @@hircenedaelen
Im confused about your comment maybe relisten/reread the entry. This was a clash between the SCP and chaos insurgacy that ended up causing of portal of entities to invade us. Such interdimentional mischief would be prime opportunity for the Pattern Screamers to send one of their most detailed message yet to everyone that can hear them, but for obvious reasons the Foundation keeping this hidden and wiping the minds of the people that did get the message will just piss them off even more hence why their message was so threatening. Its a little bit of everything sprinkled into one I recommend if you aren't wanting overall lore to listen to literal most of any of these videos because there are quite literally 100s to 1000s of them, the No Vacancy one being my favorite so far.
The problem is that nothing is eleborated upon. Why do they hate the foundation? What are the communications about? What happens in the negotiation to make them stand down? Why does the pattern screamer go dormant? How is the mtf supposed to kill it? Any info about the scp pls.

I wish there were a bit more details. Like the communicatians are never stated. You'd also think the foundation would respond more to an interdimensional north korea working together with the enemy.

OK. I got lost by this one, but that's all right. All reality, even SCP reality can be confusing at times. Gripping narrative, tho. It gives the impression that this is how a real interdimensional encounter might unfold.
I think that SCP researcher opened a portal to a different dimension and a different human race was prepping to fight prime timeline/defend against prime and then pattern screamers probably were attracted to the dimensional commotion
A Foundation head researcher went rouge after his entire research project being put into backburner by Foundation top brass and instead focused on arming MTF Teams.
Incident happen which cuts Foundation Top Brass interest even more and his project helped a dimensional rift open... The researcher, being so disillusioned by the Foundation Top Brass, joined the Chaos Insurgency

I like the detail where the scientist at the beginning was codenamed Ephialtes in retrospect. If you've ever seen the movie 300, he's the hunchback who betrayed the Spartans. He's loosely based on a real historical figure Ephialtes of Trachis who defected to the Persians against Greece. Forever afterwards his name has been used to mean "nightmare" in Greek. It's similar to how the name "Benedict Arnold" is synonymous with "traitor" to an American. Apparently the SCP foundation did not take kindly to this guy seeking employment with a rival organization.

The pattern screamers just inserted themselves into the conflict, straight up
for context, pattern screamers have "survived" the end of their universe and the collapse of physics with them still inside. they don't technically exist but their concious process persists even without existing, thus whenever a new thing is drawn from nothing there is an opertunity for a pattern screamer currently not existing anywhere to be brought along into being. they are just unmoored conciousness so they envy the living and the ability to interact and have had billions of years to go mad with loneliness.
the collapse of the portal creates a sort of cavitation bubble in the collapsing negative mass effect which could in theory stabilise as a unique spacetime of its own.
hopefully that's at least clear enough to make sense of even if ya might have to look up a few words :-)
The pattern screamers presumably were already there, and may have only been noticeable because people were sticking around the area long enough due to the portal detonation. It made the area into something like a portal, overlapping two realities. Or it may have let the screamers in. The problems the screamers were causing kept being misidentified as potential hostilities, but the aliens keep backing down when they conclude the foundation didn't do anything. When they notice the screamers they leave, probably because it's a threat just too alien to them and they don't want to deal with it.
