I was the organist in a trio at a famous venue in Luton in 1974.I was there for nine months and saw many famous acts and showbands. They were the most entertaining. All those years ago and I still remember. They were lovely guys too.
They did The Fiesta at Norton the week of my 22nd birthday in 1975 and were fabulous even included me in part of the act that night as I was a member of the Fiesta staff. Best cabaret act from coming on to going off stage xx
Fiesta was a good club - went there several times with some of the acts. Did the early spot in Newcastle & then zoom down to Norton. Cabaret was great back then really talented people & great clubs all over the country.
I love the Grumbleweeds and met them at the stage door of Scarborough (now demolished 😢) Futurist theatre when I was 9 in 1981. When they said something funny I laughed and they said they had all heard me on the stage when I was laughing, said I had a brilliant laugh and I needed to go on tour with them to motivate the audiences! Sadly only Robin remains now of the original gang and there is one other man. We are going to see them on an “oldie”variety show in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. RIP, Graham. Greatly missed and a very lovely Yorkshire man.
Enjoy seeing Robin and James at the Variety Show. I saw The Grumbleweeds many many times over 10 years and spent 2 weeks with them on holiday in Scarborough when they played The Opera House, they were a fantastic live band and always so nice to their fans. I am still in touch with Carl, who used to be Wilf Gasmask Grimshaw, he's enjoying his retirement along with his brother Albert and Maurice. I was also good friends with Graham and it was such a sad day when he passed away, he was such a lovely funny gentleman.
So good. Love the humour and the song at the end is brilliant, great harmony. What a talented bunch of guys. Only heard good things said about them. Pity that it's not still a thing.
I found it strange that this video should suddenly pop up on my phone. Grumbleweeds. Grumbleweeds.... I thought, where have I heard that before, so I clicked the play button. Watching I realized.... Of course, now I remember. It is odd that as years go by you become so busy with life . It all came back to me. Grumbleweeds was silly, crazy but funny. Sadly in 2022 would probably be cancelled. After all, we as a society have come a long way. We have evolved into better sheep. Back in the 1980s they were so uneducated, cave men. We know better today.... Don't we? Grumbleweeds , thanks for the reminder of what comedy is. Comedy is for the moment - something that lifts a burden for a while but not to be taken seriously. So for those who are offended, don't be a Karen... be a Grumbleweed.
when TV was watchable - these n the russ abbot show were just so worth staying in to have a bloody good laugh. shame we ve lost this sort of british humour
You could try, but it wouldn't be as great nowadays. The acts would be vetted to death so that nobody would be offended. The stuff The Grumbleweeds did here, would have them all over the front pages of the morning papers nowadays, and they would be forced into making a huge apology.
Maurice left , Graham died and the Grumbleweeds is a spent force . Robin is still trying to keep it going with a new member but it don't work. Maybe if Maurice and Robin joined up again ,it may have a chance but without Graham , i doubt it
I spoke with Robin after a Grumbleweeds gig in Great Yarmouth and he told me that Maurice had asked to return but was refused . This was when Graham was still alive .. Shame
Just imagine what the rest of the "Entertainment" was like in the clubs if these were considered good enough to be plucked from obscurity and presented to us, on TV, as "Entertainers". I'm not gonna say total shite but feckin close. 2 talented individuals carried that group of wankers for years.
No, I'm right this is total crap. But as you insist this is funny let's use 'humour' of the time to insult people. Your wife is fat. I can see that in the family picture you post. Hilarious. The parody of Alison Moyet is disgusting. It's only to laugh at her - school-yard bullying. Now you grow up. @@jonathanmeynell4605
@@andyjackson2891 God, I bet you piss yourself every time Lost Voice Guy presses a button on his laptop. I'm right, aren't I? You really need to get to his live show. Then you will meet loads of other virtue-signalling wankers to impress.
Your right this is crap! but i'd rather watch this than the shit we have to put up with today. The Stevie Wonder joke i can't believe the audience were actually laughing.
I met Maurice Lee at a village show. 'I saw you all in Blackpool do you remember me?', 'Yes', he said, 'You're wearing the same shirt!'
i remember my mum and dad ran a club for a while in the 1980s and booked the grumbleweeds to play for a hundred pounds.
My dad used to laugh his head off at this. He also loved listening to Queen.

Love these guys, seen them on stage many times, would always sign autographs after the shows.
The good old days. Fantastic memories.
They sung a great song my mum had on record. Was called shall I ring you in the morning or give u a nudge.
Absolutely ace entertainment brilliant
we went to Blackpool every year for our holidays and saw all the shows. the Grumbleweeds was the only show we went to twice.
You had to see them live too really appreciate how good they where
I saw them twice in their hey-day; brilliant and sorely missed.

My mother used to turn them over whenever they came on! Even back then, they were part of a genre which was very dated.
@@th8257 yeah, that genre of laughter and music, so dated. Hope it never comes back in fashion.
Very talented act.Saw them and met them many times.Pure entertainment
best comedy group ever
Stevie Wonder... Classic!!!
Great gag!
The one that did the impressions was really talented..
i first seen them years ago in Leeds :)
I found it strange that this video should suddenly pop up on my phone.

Fuck yes the grumbleweeds!
Awesome!!!!!!!
Someone made the comment bring back Variety.
That’s the problem, there is no Variety.
Could you imagine the Grumbleweeds getting on television today😢😢
Baldism , fatism , 'blacking up ' . You would never get away with a show like this today
Oh for the days of politically incorrect comedy eh?
great memories of the Sheffield Fiesta.
allot of this material was at least topical for the times and and this performance im sure, its allot better than allot of stuff around then.
thay was the best being back the good old day
when TV was watchable - these n the russ abbot show were just so worth staying in to have a bloody good laugh. shame we ve lost this sort of british humour
Fat shaming, black face, then a brilliant impression of Jim from Taxi. Always good to mix discrimination and bigotry with some talent :D
I can remember them coming over to the Isle of man a real craze bunch of lads
Great upto tho point they sang
The section with Maurice Lee and Albert Sutcliffe reminds me of connon and ball .
Saw them in Guernsey they were sooo funny
So sad that acts like this have gone . I would still pay to watch an act of the quality. I know the world moves on , but a bit of fun is still needed.
Days of real entertainment.
Haha, you're joking aren't you? Even back then, they were a dated joke.
@@th8257 If you say so. Looks like they were still appreciated back then. Sorry to burst your bubble.
They would not get away with the the stuff they did back then but it,s still very funny pmsl..
Good clean fun.
We’re very funny, very talented
The Grumble weeds and The Black Abbots both contemporary acts😂😂😂😂
Bring back variety.

does anyone know if there's a video of, come on down t'bread shop?
Great fun entertainment.
Ho ho, Tarby. The fifth Beatle!
LMFAO!! Every bit as funny as I remember them!
Damn good! Imagine getting away with the Stevie Wonder joke nowadays!
And now we have the "Talent " of Ant and Dec. . 😥
Did you say talent? What talent? They're just a pair of overgrown schoolkids
when comedy WAS funny , couldn't do some of those jokes today , would offend to many people
Who was the Paul McCartney lookalike?
Quite possibly basic humour......but they still sold out shows twice a night 7 nights a week for 16 weeks in the summer season shows.
dutchy pon
pigs on board
I'm sure this is the same show that Tommy cooper died on..
When being funny was funny
When comedians tried to entertain the audience not themselves
Creme Brulee
I forgot how good they where lmao 😂😂😂😂
How bad was that!.... also miming to their own song 🤣 wish i had not watched it and kept it as a good memory from wen i was young
When humour was a matter of opinion 🤨and stealing jokes off better comedians was considered acceptable😮
Time has moved on and evolved , wouldn't make it today , certainly they would not make TV.
Thank god Sky come along
Yup. So many channels, still full of crap.

entertainment sure was shite

I have said total shite
Anything was accepted back then.
I remember the blonde guys barnet, terrible act.
Shite
Awful
There is nothing awful about being entertained!
True.
I was not entertained obviously.
Otherwise I would have said something else.
Thank you for pointing out the obvious.
+peter lee What's your idea of entertainment then? Crappy Saturday Night Takeaway? Boring Britain's Got Talent?
No, I do not watch either of those two tv shows.
But I do enjoy poking rotting carcases of dogs.
peter lee as do i but the dog has to be fuckin rotton with flies on it 😂
This was crap at the time - and now later even more offensive.
