Jennifer welcomes teacher Alfred “Shivy” Brooks II, and his wife Crystal, from Atlanta, GA, who went viral after posting a video holding a sign in front of his classroom that said, ‘free hug if you need one.’ Alfred’s late son passed in April 2023 at the age of 16 while trying to save four children drowning in a rip current. Since his son’s passing, Alfred says it’s his duty to redefine who we see young Black males to be and what it means to show up for young men.

Amazing! I say it all the time - our 17 year olds need love and guidance too, everyone wants to treat black BOYS as grown MEN, you’re just expected to know, expected to take on the responsibility and decision-making of a full-grown adult when your frontal lobes aren’t even fully developed until 21 (sometimes 25); and what he said about the hugs not being given unless you’ve accomplished something really hit home.
This was an inspiring episode all around, each guest provided levels of inspiration and confidence 💛 thank you

This family is so beautiful. I saw this family in an episode of Instant Dream Home before their son passed away. I'm glad that they're find a positive way to deal with their loss. A person can always find happiness in giving wether big or small.

Adam Sandler is just a good human, and they both clearly cherish their friendship, and he definitely came on her show to support her as well, because he cares about her and wants her and her show to do well!! 💙
(And I'm not saying that to be an asshole, OR say she isn't successful on her own because God know she IS, or for anyone that's going to say it's a racist thing to say because "No black woman needs a white man to make her show successful" I am not saying that at all! I just think them supporting each other is beautiful but I obviously have to explain myself or someone will come and say that I'm being an asshole. Now that I got all that out of the way)
I think Adam truly cares about her as a human being and I think it shows in this interview that they truly care about each other! And I think it's really amazing that he came on the show which is an honor for him to be on the show but it's also an honor for her to have him on the show and I just think it's amazing to show that they like support each other and care about each other.. I just love that they still care about each other this much!, and can just sit and laugh and have a good time, its beautiful!
And every time Jennifer was talking about herself in any way Adam Just sat and listened and was actually engaged and it's just a reminder of how good of a person he is and how much he cares about the people he works with, And obviously plays on the fact that Jennifer is a beautiful human being too because she clearly has Adam enamored by not only her talent but who she is as a human being. This whole interview was just brilliant. 💙
