Thank you so much for this!! This was the video I was waiting for the most. I'm going to watch this again and again to be ready for when my RP5 arrives! Once again, thank you very much for your dedication and support 👊🏻
Thank you so much for your support! I really hope this video will help you get all set up and if there's anything you don't understand, please don't hesitate to leave a comment here!
@@RyanRetro1 You deserve the support! Just one question though, the emulators that come with retail RP5 are the latest versions? Because from what I saw before from other channels, on the pre-production version they were quite outdated.
Thank you! I think they are still quite outdated. I personally don't mind because I'm happy with the performance but you could certainly go through updating them all!
Your consistency and dedication to the RP5 is killer dude, let alone the minimalistic approach for everyone to understand. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say cheers man! Have a Korean pint on us! 🤙🏼 Also a pleasure to support a new channel who's thoroughly deserving of good shizzle. A quick question, when you are importing your ROMs directory for your emulators, are you already pre-unzipping the games/ROMs or is it ok to leave them zipped? Again, thanks for all you do for the RP5 community, I'm new to all this and the RP5 is my first ever device to dive into the killer world of emulation. Nostalgia trip inbound 🎮
Thank you so much for the Super Thanks - I really appreciate it! I'll be sure to give you a shout-out in tomorrow's video because I'm very grateful! Some emulators can read roms within zips and some can't so you can either just throw in all the zips and see if they can be read and then unzip them if they cant, or you can just unzip them first before you move them over. I have some rom folders that contain both zip files and the same game extracted because I forgot to delete the zip, and it causes the games to show up twice which is quite annoying. Because of that, I'm trying to unzip all my games for now.
Perfect! If retroid will ever process my order for my rp5, I will be back here immediately! You actually are a normal person and not a retro console RUclipsr automaton.... yet 😂 Thanks for all the content!
@@Goldenwolfz21 I bought mine off eBay thought it was kinda sketchy cause the guy I bought it from had 100% rating and like 3 five star reviews but it arrived at my front door at about a week or so ago I’m happy to say it was legit because this device is awesome the only thing that kinda sucks is that the battery life of this device can use improvements.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, these guides are utterly amazing. Thank you so much for making them. What do you think is the best emulator for the secret console?
I'll give you a hint, it starts with Y. It's discontinued so google for the latest version you can find. Reddit is always a good resource to find links that aren't viruses. Thanks again!
Nice setup guide...hehe I saw it just after finishing tweaking mine. I did use a couple different emulators - and setup Retroarch and ES-DE frontend. Love playing on it but ( and this is a big BUT), ergo feel on RP5 is pretty awful. Can't use for more than 30 minutes at a time before my hands really start hurting. This device really needs to be taller to help prevent thumb pain, for me at least. I will look for a grip for it at some point but I hate putting on extra accessories...
I'm glad you liked the guide and it's unfortunate to hear it's uncomfortable for you. I think the grips can help a lot! For me personally I find it comfortable to use for hours so maybe you'll get used to it or adjust your grip slightly. I hope you'll find a good solution!
Just ordered mine... And i have to give you a huge thank you for this video. I have always used Batocera, Recalbox, Retrobat... So setting up one by one was almost a deal breaker for me. Hopefully i won't feel that... I love how centralized the structure is with these front ends. Would the use of Emustation help a bit ?
You're welcome! There is a brilliant Emustation called ES-DE for Android and the Retroid Launcher is also similar. I'm going to make videos on both of them in the next couple of days so you can pick which one you think would be good for you!
@@RyanRetro1 This is super great to read. I have 2TB of roms setup for Retrobat/Batocera i share between all Pis and PCs... i would die to redo all scraping and bios searching LOL. BTW, i played Cyberpunk with Steamlink, and God of war with PXplay on my Oppo fold...it was actually mega smooth and awesome. Would be great to test both on the RP5...seeing the beast it is, it would Trump my Phone
Thanks! I'd recommend Sandisk Extreme cards - those are the ones I use for all my devices. 256-512gb would be good. If you want to play a lot of Secret Console games like me, I'd recommend thinking about 1TB if it's in your budget.
@ Thankyou so much Ryan. That’s brilliant advice!!! Cheers. I’m currently offshore in the North Sea but I should have my Pocket 5 delivered when I’m due home on the 7th Jan so I’ll get a card ordered now.
@@stevenmccarron-talesfromli4831 Great - Hope it all works out well for you! I had a 512 but ended up needing to upgrade to 1TB but then again I'm downloading tons of games I'll never even play for the purpose of making these videos. Anyway I think 1TB is great to future-proof yourself but in some cases it's double the price of a 512 so you could always pick up a smaller card now then pick up a second one later.
@@RyanRetro1 Yeah, that’s a great shout. I’ll have a look at the prices and go from there. I’m gonna need to watch all your videos regards this little beast of a machine!!!!
Thanks for this Ryan, always glad to have a good setup guide! If we decline Google Play Services, do we still have access to the Google Play Store to download emulators and such? 🍻
I haven't tried that out but you need to sign into Google Play to use the Store so I think you'd need to sideload APKs if you're not planning on logging in.
Great video thanks Ryan. Interested to know how Vita is on the RP5 and seen very little on this. Want to know if its worth bothering? Im waiting for my RP5 to ship too...hang in there people i hear it often takes them time after the pre-order to fix the backlog. Frustrating as heck but hopefully we will all have them soon!
I'd like to get more info on the retroid pocket's proprietary launcher. If I opt to install it, will I not be able to use the regular android interface as well?
I'm a fan of the Sandisk Extreme SD cards. I've been using them exclusively for years. Get a 'V30' sd card, just be careful because some cheap brands advertise they are faster than they actually are.

I don't have an Odin but for the emulator setups they should be the same!
Great video! Why not use something like ES-DE as a emulator library? It’s only 5$ and super easy to setup
Thanks! I'm going to be making a follow-up video of ES-DE but I prefer using standalone apps at the moment.

I hope somebody makes a batocera ready image for it soon, can’t wait to play Sega Model 3 etc

You can - the Retroid Launcher is just an app
the preinstalled apps you can select on setup are all out of date, by a lot. they should be skipped and manually installed for latest versions.
That could be a good idea sure, but they're all running games flawlessly for me so I don't see the need personally.
I'm glad you did a video with the pre-installed apps so you can see what the experience is like if you use them. Very useful 👍
@michaelphillips1095 that don't even make sense lol
Can I use my SD card that I used from my RP2 with all the games I Downloaded and transfer it to my RP5?
You should be able to yes
Can you try luminescent platinum it’s a mod for brilliant diamond on switch seen it running on rp4 pro
I've added it to my Pokemon Video list!
Thinking of ordering one of these, what SD card would you recommend for it ?
A 512gb+ from a reputable brand like SanDisk or Samsung
