It’s like when I take such and such a turn when driving to a familiar place, which was against the wishes of the GPS, but the arrival time suddenly goes down five minutes. 🎉
for the record (since i know the audience of this vid is the sort who would appreciate it) "diazo" is not pronounced "dee-ah-zoh" but "die-AY-zoh" (it is a chemical prefix)
It should be made clear for the viewers that even though the simulation has UH at around 95%, it's basically impossible for you to lose. You're going to use the K for the triple with the worst case being something like KOIS and that's enough to withstand a play like JOLLY from Jesse and a Z play. The reason the sim has it at 95% is because it imagines you fishing off the U and Jesse hitting ZOCALO which is never going to actually happen
Will is sooooooo good at calmly explaining these issues to his audience!!! We are fortunate to be in the audience when will straightforwardly addresses issues in the position. Thank You Will!!!! :)
Hey Will you are an amazing story teller and just extremely great to listen to. I had 0 interest in this game before this since I’m awful at spelling lol. You have given me so much insight into a competitive game I’d never otherwise know anything about other than the random news article about whatever language Nigel Richard’s won a tournament in (I used to legit think those were hoaxes being spread until your channel explained the whole story). You will do great in November and I know you have it in you to clash with the likes of Nigel
In chess, we often have to sacrifice one advantage for another. With a comfy point lead and expert board awareness, I feel you did just that in the position. Very nice insights and a great watch!
I've been enjoying your videos for a while now, Will and have been wondering how long players take to decide what to play. Your short, quick videos are great but it seems to me (an absolute novice) that players instantly think of these words. It would be nice to know every now and again how long players agonise over words. Keep up the good work!
Oh, if you see a tournament match in the various broadcasts made available, you'll find that clock management is a crucial component of a top-level game, particularly in the interest of going quickly in the early game to analyze the late plays for maximized odds of victory.
Thank you for the nice comments! You're not the first person to inquire about whether I could add time usage to the game recaps. For livestreamed games, it's definitely possible, but I haven't figured out exactly how to display it on a turn by turn basis. Something for me to consider.
@@wanderer15perhaps if a play was particularly fast or slow then just give it a mention. You did say in this video you thought you took too long thinking of possible words and I found that added an extra level of jeopardy!
In competitive Scrabble are there control, aggro, and I guess midrange players like there are collectible card games? Will’s videos inspired me to start playing, and I find myself trying out each style like I would when building a deck
So glad to hear you've given the game a try - yes, there's so much room for stylistic variation. Trying out each approach can only help you to figure out which you like best!
If two letter words have this much potential for brilliant setups, imagine what could be done if one letter words were allowed.......................................;; Great video Will, you're like the WolfeyVGC of League of Legends.
How on Earth would you know STRIPINGS was valid? Also, since you didn't say, in 2015 were you playing TWL or CSW? Given the lack of CSW words, I'm guessing it was TWL?
Playing a move just for the computer to reevaluate and realise it’s the best one is such a fun thing to have happen, unmatched

Basically Scrabble Tal
Stuff like this is motivation for Worlds. It's good to remind yourself how big-brained you can be at the Scrabble board.
Henry Wu: You're implying that a rack composed mostly of vowels will...win?
Ian Malcolm: No. I'm, I'm simply saying that Will, uh...finds a way.

gladly accepting the M O'C stamp of approval
My fav video yet. I like you hear you talk about Nigel but I really enjoy to hear you talking about yourself. Look forward to more videos like this.

Thanks, man! Really appreciate it
Same here. I had zero interest in Scrabble before I subscribed. Now I understand the nuances behind a deceptively simple word game.
Plays like STOPBANKS rightfully gets the attention, but my favorite Will play is his play of RUD.
Fewer things in life are more gratifying than a positively winning endgame sequence in Scrabble.
ur such a good storyteller mate

Another fun game to watch. The UH play was clever, but you and Jesse both made a series of nice plays and used openings well.
I know at least 80% of the words played but utterly lack the foresight and strategy to evaluate a board like these guys. Top notch play!!
Will is so good (true)
true
Jesse let him cook

Way to go Will let's see some more plays like that on the Road to Ghana
This Will Anderson guy seems pretty good wow
3-7 record against Eric Goldstein. Washed.
5-2 record against Nigel Richards. Washer.
What a treat while I'm recovering from surgery! Thankful for some of your joyful wordsmithing as always, Will.
Feel better soon!
GET WELL SOON.!!
'Scuse me, I gotten go pernoctated in my shorts right quick.
so many obscure words i can't believe how they both study and recall/recognize them as plays in real life
Uhhh the Goat strikes again 🚀

love your videos! always a fun watch
So happy I found this channel
me too!
oh god does this mean the IR game is next
Haha, someday I can see covering that full match. But first, I'm long overdue to break down your titanic battles with Nigel in 2018 and 2019!
Very clever setup
Fortunately I avoided playing OLOGY at any point
Nigel moment
Anyone else thanking Babylon 5 for their knowledge of the word "Zocalo"?
well done
damn, I didn't know you were nice like that
Love the strategy behind this game. I could never do it LOL, but it's super fun to watch play out.

Ow... oi... yaup... uh
When is Nigel's Greatest Setups, Vol 3. Gonna be out?
Hopefully next week!

I think it's common for players at Will's level, even if they don't study all 9's, to make sure they know all extensions of 7's and 8's.
Yup it was TWL
yes, NWL game here. As for STRIPINGS, I must have looked at it in my preparation for the nationals that year.

I know Scrabble pros don't necessarily care about this sort of thing, but zocalo is pronounced SO-ca-lo, not zo-CA-lo.
Thanks - appreciate the correction
Kind of an Uh video if you ask me
this is the nicest way this phrase has ever been used
