I made my brother a pair of lifting tongs for his foundry furnace (meant to grip a round crucible) and I almost messed it up because of needing to bend them in opposite directions. Good thing all I had to do was reheat and resend the end of one side. It was a good learning experience though. Thanks for passing along your knowledge. God Bless.

Looks like a very nice set, and good for any time you're working with flat stock. I use box jaw tongs for a lot of flat work, but having a set like that would be very handy when working with scrolls so the curve can bypass the hand, allowing you to get up close to where you'll be working at on the bar.

@@Peter-od7op You'll enjoy making Ken's tongs, not just because you'll have a set of tongs when you're done but actually making them is pretty fun too. The nice thing about them is that getting stock to the right shape and size is the hardest part of making tongs, and that's pretty much already done for you. You're free to do just the necessities to make tongs, or you can spend time customizing them however you like. Start with the flat jaw tongs and size the jaws to your other tongs, so making the rest is easier. The rest of the tongs are just preference but the flat jaws are the perfect tongs to make the other tongs. After you're done it's easy to resize the flat jaw tongs to whatever stock you want or keep them that size if you wish.

So I have been blacksmithing for about 2 weeks now. Normally for an hour or 2 after work. I have made a couple S-hooks and I bought the tong bundle. I did the Flat jaw tongs last weekend and im working on the slotjaw tongs now. I'm having the problem that when I'm drawing the reins out they start to twist. Any pointers? Am I trying to draw out to much material at once or is it something else. It starts twisting when I'm about to transition from square to octagon. Thanks
I would love to be an apprentice blacksmith to a master but I don't know anyone that does it so I try to learn from ur videos as much as I can.

i believe the type of knife in question is called both a viking knife and a ladies' knife because during the viking age women in nordic countries would carry such a knife as a daily-use tool. it's simple, effective, cheap, and compact.
