The most helpful thing to me is probably something you didn’t intend to be so helpful and that’s the fact you put the pencil in the braid. I’m assuming to relieve tension for the crochet? I never thought about doing that
Yeah I don’t like my braids tight because the crochet hair causes friction against my own and can result in breakage! Plus the hair really sucks the moisture from your strands.

It’s best for loose crochet styles. You could use it for braids and twists if you plan to just wear them in a side part.

I definitely did detangle my hair. My hair always retangles back because I have high porosity hair.
