- We leave Savannah, Georgia and head north to Pennsylvania. What lay ahead for us was both unexpected and humbling. But, who's Pedro and where is South of the Border? We find out as we travel life in the slow lane in an HDT Life.
A battleground state in many ways, it was hard to imagine how our visit to Pennsylvania would impact us. We're still not sure.... But history tells us that Gettysburg was a re-birth of our Nation and a consecration of those ideals we hold dear and remembering those who gave the full measure of their devotion to those beliefs.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to RUclips channels Suite Travels, Switch it Up and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.

We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.

Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.

We lived in Alexandria, VA for almost 40 years a d spent a lot of time in Gettysburg and Amish country. We visited the original building the cyclorama was in. When we went on our honeymoon 54 years ago we visited Gettysburg. The restaurant called the Avenue diner is still there. Really enjoyed your walk down memory lane

It is very moving to stand on that ground. In mid November in the cemetery they have a beautiful illumination service, boy scouts put candles on all the graves and the troops march in, very moving. A friend of mine built one of the cannons and carriage and donated to the museum, its in the cyclorama. Pennsylvania is a beautiful state.
I can imagine that is very moving. It's a special place with a very somber atmosphere.
Looking at the battle site was amazing you can sense the history up to 51,000 men from both armies died on the battlefield .a place that I thought I'd never see thank you

In 2019 we visited Gettysburg and throughly enjoyed it. We are from Ontario 🇨🇦 and I planned this trip. My husband was completely surprised because I don’t like army movies and I am not much of a history lover but Gettysburg is one of my favourite places we have visited. I loved the little museums that depicted the civilian life and how the women helped the soldiers. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

The Eisenhower farm and museum right there by the battlefield was very interesting when we camped at Gettysburg. Agree that Cyclorama was really great.

I did the Gettysburg tour back in the early 90s. At that time, you could rent a cassette player with a tape that told you what speed to drive, where to turn, narrated what was transpiring or battle was taking place as you were driving. It also had sound effects that made you feel you were experiencing everything as it happened back then. I mean the sounds of the horses hooves as they were either galloping by or as they were being ridden while in a fight. Sounds of gunfire, cannons, men yelling, men crying out in pain, officers shouting orders, and more. I think I took enough pictures, 8 rolls of 36 exposure 35mm rolls were used. I had never seen so many statues in my life. At each site were several statues with the names of the men that died in battle at that location. It was a very educational and moving experience. It really makes you appreciate our country even more. I am so glad you two were able to do the tour. Happy Travels!

This reminds me of Shiloh National Military Park in Tennessee where we visited. The numbers of men that were killed in a day is staggering. Someday we will get to Gettysburg, too. I have to say, Sondra, that you've got me started on buying stickers. I bought my first one today for my travel journal. :)
Oh... the sticker path is a long and winding road with no end... the Civil War battle sites are unbelievable with what happened at each. Hard to fathom.

Absolutely love the RV lifestyle myself. On long trips, I've found the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series to be a lifesaver. My Lovely Bride and I honeymooned in Gettysburg and the Amish country a mere 43 years ago this sept. This was a very emotional video for me this week as you guys did such a nice job. Welcome to Pennsylvania! We live in Mechanicsburg, PA about 45 minutes from Gettysburg. I learned some history on York from you today. I have friends that are in the reenactment every year at Gettysburg. Sondra great video capture of the owl! Sondra I think you should buy handheld illuminating beacons, you know like they use at the airport to guide the airplanes in after they land. You can use them to guide David when he is backing into your RV spot. Just a thought. 😊 I love your videos!

We loved our trips to Gettysburg. A couple of those trips were over July 1st,2nd and 3rd. Re-enactments were being all over Gettysburg. One trip was over a Memorial Day Weekend. We watched as Boy Scouts placed flags on the graves at the National Cemetery.
Just a little correction; there was fighting within the center of the town as well. Jenny Wade was killed by a bullet that passed through the door to her home and struck her while she was in the kitchen.

This morning, my garmin wanted me to take a shortcut on a county road. I was dubious about it before I got there. As I was approaching, I figured if I turn on to that road, it becomes 1 way! The entire road was about 12' wide! And it had a sign at the intersection say No Trucks.😮

The Haines Shoe House "walked" right into 5 dad jokes. It was so easy, one couldn't avoid it. To the chagrin of the naysayers, I'd say you showed restraint, David. Like always another great video thanks for the good information and laugh and with that motor home that was coming in to your lane I would’ve been blowing the air horn. I got a truck so long that you ran out of air. Good thing hit you were watching at me as a driver. I’ve seen it a lot. Also, there are some weird people out there that are texting and driving especially in these motorhomes, they don’t realize where the back end of it is and they start changing lanes. They think that they can clear good job of saving that.

I can only imagine the feelings you felt as you stood there on the battlefields of Gettysburg, knowing that the ground before you still carries the blood of the dying men that fought for the freedom of the nation. Thank you to you and Sondra.
Haven't decided on the name yet. We're narrowing it down to just a few. So many good suggestions. It was a sobering experience and I never realized until that day as we stood there that it was our re-birth as a nation.

I really enjoyed the video about Gettysburg. I am not sure of your travel route but a couple of suggestions. 1. Little BighornBattlefield near Crow Agency Montana and in Washington the town of Rosalyn Washington especially if you are a fan of the TV show "Northern Exposure ."
