For me, this is pure nostalgia into my veins, 12 years of Amnesia, I was a teen when me and my friends first played this in a dimly lit room, downloading custom stories when the game was completed, now i'm an adult with everyday worries, but Amnesia is a small place of comfort for me.
Yo I’m just playing the game for the first time on my PS5, and it looks scary. It’s so different from a lot of existing horror games today, and I think that that is part of where the scariness comes from for me. My dad recommended it to me after I had said something about Amnesia: The Bunker. I’m excited to continue playing it!

Brilliant. It's almost asking the player "Are you sure you're ready?" Almost as if you're not ready for the darkness you're about to face. It's an actual return to horror. The confrontation with evil that you cannot mentally comprehend, and it's confrontation will change you as a person and question who you really are. I cannot express in words how terrifying and well done this game is.
This soundtrack lives rent-free in my head. It's a masterpiece, the game itself lives on by it's name, a beauty that still scares those who dare play it after so many years.

This is the only horror game that is actually really scary for me even as an adult. Always only heard about it but played it the first time 2 years ago. I sat there with my headphones in midnight, started the game and the first time in my life i was so badly scared just by the main menu of a horror game. Phenomenal Masterpiece!
The one that scares me most is "Dark Water". It plays in the Cistern when you switch off all lights to change the flow of water. That is.. nightmare stuff.

I always really liked that statue of an upside down face that appears on the initial loading screen. It's so creepy and unnatural and so fitting for a haunted medieval castle story.
The title screen alone is a perfect example of what this game is about, how it deals with horror. The ambience in the menu makes you shiver to the point of almost pissing yourself when your cursor nears the start button. The game is about making the player frighten themselves more than any game-mechanics ever could. Instead of shoving jumpscares in your face, they leave the player to their thoughts and sometimes lie just to make the player fear something that isn't really there. In this game, you're left contemplating whether you should come out of hiding or wait another 3 minutes till you're sure it's safe. You're left with the choice of either keeping your eye on the monster chasing you, in turn losing sanity, or just continuing to run, knowing you might be utterly fucked any second. The entire beginning of the game only serves to unnerve the player, keeping them on their toes, and it executes that masterfully, allowing for maximum terror when you finally do meet the first grunt in Brennenburg. The soundtrack captures this feel, in my opinion, leaving me to ponder whether I should continue or just put off playing the game for later, still feeling eager to play it.
Amnesia > any other horror game. Such a spooky and an incredible game. And the worst part about it is that it feels so realistic while you are playing it. By far one of the best and most chilling titles ever in gaming history. You feel so unsettled playing as Daniel all the way back to the 1700/1800's in this haunted castle trying to uncover your past with Alexander. An absolute masterpiece from Frictional Games. The shadowy atmosphere they created is amazing. You just feel unnerved and discouraged to head into the darkness. And even though it's scary as hell you still feel a massive amount of nostalgia simply by thinking about it, it's that legendary. Even the soundtrack is terrifying.
i remember when i launched this game for the first time, thinking "it can not be that scary, right?", and after hearing this theme i immediately started to regret downloading it haha now i don't regret playing it at all, one of the best horror games ever made and my personal favourite, it also made me play penumbra from the same studio, also watched soma gameplays and i have to say that i'm a big fan of their games, they're so unique :)

Man, I see this game is getting a lot of love and recognition now that it has gained a good bunch of years since it's release and I'm very glad for that. I feel it's a real classic that one just can't help but admire, even if they aren't into horror. And for me this theme has gotten borderline nostalgic. I played it a lot like 1-2 years after it was out and still relatively fresh. Suddenly this is almost 15 years old, gotta hats off for that ❤
The first horror game I've played where you can't kill the monsters. Just avoiding, running and hiding. Pretty sure I didn't finish the game until years and years later.
I could run through this game a hundred times over no problem, sure I'd still get spooked but it's a simple process to avoid certain monsters. _Hard Mode however instilled such a primal fear in me of this game that probably hundreds of others felt when they played this game when it first came out...._

I kinda think The Dark Descent had more pressuring atmosphere so far compared to the other 2 games in the series. Is it the fear of the Shadow catching up or the monsters coming out of these dark corners of the Brenenburg castle?I don't really know but i don't really felt that much pressure while playing rebirth.Maybe it's because of the Tasi always speaking.Or maybe i just grown up.

This game is excellent in its atmosphere and intimidating the player. The game constantly plays with the imagination, which intensifies the effect of uncomfortableness. But this is not the scariest game, it is quite full of holes and some problems. I have to admit that this is a good horror, but definitely not the best.
